Job Description

Turner & Townsend Heery is seeking a Project Managers responsible for medium to large sized projects for our office's Dallas-area clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Initiating, coordinating, managing, and accomplishing the design for all assigned projects.
  • Ensures compliance with Design Standards, Code Compliance, Sustainability Requirements and provides Construction Phasing and Implementation.
  • Manages all facets of project management (budget, schedule, procurement, quality & risk) for projects.
  • Demonstrates capability to read, understand and apply standard to complex documents affecting design projects, including but not limited to agreements/contracts, leases, work letters, project charters, surveys and drawings.
  • Develops Design Task Orders based on approved scope.
  • Gathers design team proposals, reviews for compliance with Task Order, reviews cost proposals and man-hour projections, schedule milestones, insurance requirements and other legal requirements.
  • Manage Submittal and Review Process: Typical process includes Program Validation, Basis of Design, Design Documents includes 35% / Schematic Design, 65% / Design Development, 95% Construction Documents (Drawings and Specifications) and the 100% Issue for Bid Sets.
  • Implements communication plan for meetings and written reports/meeting minutes to keep client and project resources informed.
  • Facilitates project meetings.
  • Implement project documentation governance aligned with company and client requirements.
  • Ensure project data integrity and documentation is accurate, timely and coordinated.
  • Tracks progress of each project against goals, objectives, approved budgets, approved timelines.
  • Reports status and variances.
  • Creates action plans to meet objectives, budget and schedule.
  • Implements change management routines to assess change requests, make recommendations, secure client approvals, and issue change orders.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or similar field, or equivalent experience.

  • Facility construction experience is a preferred.
  • Some experience in CSA (civil, structural, architectural) and MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing)
  • Detail-oriented and thorough with strong work ethic.
  • Skilled in data processing and analytics.
  • Experience with MS Excel and Projects preferred.
  • Ability to solve advanced problems and deal with a variety of options in complex situations.
  • Requires expert level analytical and quantitative skills with proven experience in developing strategic.
  • Draws upon the analysis of others and makes recommendations that have a direct impact on the client.

  • Participate in and collaborate with the PP&E Integrated Workgroup and Functional teams to align Data Analytics (DA) efforts with business objectives and goals

  • Operate as the Subject Matter Expert for the PP&E business across data availability, quality, processes, and technology for all workgroups within the PP&E Integrated Workgroup

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related, plus three (3) years of experience in the application of data to solve problems, or Bachelor's degree in one of the above plus five (5) years of experience.
  • Construction Project Controls experience including industry trends, terminology, and typical processes is strongly preferred.
  • Scheduling, preconstruction and/or VDC experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in data visualization/BI tools - Power BI strongly preferred - including creating and maintaining dataflows.
  • Proven analytic skills, including data mining, evaluation, analysis, and visualization.
  • Skilled at analysis and providing relevant information people need to succeed in their roles to formulate accurate decisions and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to create data models and understand dependencies between source systems.
  • Experience with consuming APIs from the client side including REST and GraphQL.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL scripting required.
  • Knowledge of statistics and ability to translate this into non-technical, layman's terms.
  • Proven track record of translating business pain points into data requirements.
  • Proven track record of identifying and solving complex problems with data.
  • Passion for the use of data and business intelligence principles and their ability to optimize business outcomes.
  • Understanding of how business decisions are evaluated across operations, finance, risk and people practices, and ability to apply this understanding to identify opportunities for improved decision making.

The Resource Planning Project Manager will support electric utilities in generation and power supply planning decisions, including the decisions and justifications of new generation facility construction, generation facility retirements, and facility retrofits or conversions, as well as power purchase decisions. The Resource Planning Project Manager will support a broad range of studies and other consulting services to support electric utilities to make decisions backed by business and engineering analysis regarding their power supply requirements, such as integrated resource planning, market assessments, and power supply RFP evaluations.

Description

The Resource Planning Project Manager will support electric utilities in generation and power supply planning decisions, including the decisions and justifications of new generation facility construction, generation facility retirements, and facility retrofits or conversions, as well as power purchase decisions. The Resource Planning Project Manager will support a broad range of studies and other consulting services to support electric utilities to make decisions backed by business and engineering analysis regarding their power supply requirements, such as integrated resource planning, market assessments, and power supply RFP evaluations.

The Project Manager will be required to work with numerous entities in the industry including investor-owned electric utilities, municipal electric utilities, electric cooperatives, and independent power producers. This Project Manager will be a seller-doer, conducting sales and marketing activities and executing projects. The Project Manager will spend time directly engaged with clients to identify new work, prepare proposals, establish study objectives, formulate project approaches, and manage/oversee a team of consultants/engineers to meet the study objectives and provide the client with useful and actionable deliverables.

Responsibilities

The Project Manager will be responsible for, and manage, all aspects of projects from business development, scope and fee development, staffing plan development, project oversight and execution, quality management, and financial performance responsibilities. The project manager will support and lead both on-the-job and classroom training efforts for less experienced team members. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Business development: Develop new, and manage existing, client relationships through client marketing and project interactions; identify new sales opportunities with clients; lead all aspects of proposal development and submission including project planning, budgeting, and scheduling; establish critical project objectives and performances with clients; lead contract preparation and negotiations.
  • Project execution: Lead all aspects of project execution including scope, schedule, and budget; ensure quality control of deliverables; analyze and communicate project status, risks, schedule, and costs to all internal and external stakeholders; lead multi-discipline teams of engineers and analysts; plan, organize, and communicate project personnel needs to department management.
  • Leadership: Mentor and train less experienced staff on technical and business aspects of projects and the industry; serve as a recognized industry leader in power generation planning and evaluation; support company initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, computer science, data science or similar field from an ABET accredited program.
  • Master's degree in engineering, economics, computer science, data science, or business is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience; working for, or providing consulting services to, electric utilities, including 3 or more years managing engineering or consulting projects.
  • Strong knowledge of power supply planning software, preferably PROMOD (zonal and nodal) and Capacity Expansion (or familiarity with Plexos, EnCompass, GridView, or others).
  • Extensive knowledge of electric power options including generation facility types, capital costs, operating costs, typical dispatch profiles, and general power system operations. Knowledge of power supply purchase agreements regarding costs and terms.
  • Deep and broad base of knowledge of electric utility systems, power generation types, and power delivery with an understanding of power generation portfolio planning.
  • General business and financial calculation knowledge, including discounted cash flow analysis, net present value analysis, and internal rate of return evaluations.
  • Proven ability to lead, educate, and train a team of engineers and analysts in regard to power supply planning studies.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-discipline teams of engineers and analysts.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, including identification of critical path items to ensure deliverable deadlines are met.
  • Ability to focus on the big picture to effectively and efficiently provide services that meet client needs, while also having the ability to identify and analyze details that are critical to project outcomes.
  • Willingness to learn new service offerings as client needs and the market requires changes to the service offerings provided by our group.
  • Willingness and ability to develop a broad set of service offering types to allow for flexibility to go where the work is.
  • Willingness to cross-sell other services offered by Burns & McDonnell outside the project managers core set of services.
  • Willingness to negotiate with clients for new service agreements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT).
  • Must have the ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of industry, government, and public contracts on project-related matters.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel.
