SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) – Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled SQL Server DBA to join our IT Systems team at MediSys Health Network. This role is critical to maintaining the performance, security, and reliability of our SQL Server environments, including standalone SQL servers. clustered SQL servers, AOG (AlwayOn Availability) Groups and SQL servers deployed in cloud (ASW). The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with SQL backups via enterprise backup systems like Commvault, integration with monitoring platforms such as ManageEngine OpManager or Red Gate, and a strong understanding of SQL Server architecture in healthcare and enterprise settings.

Position Summary

This is a full-time hybrid position. For the first 3 months, you are required to work 5 days on-site. Afterwards, you will work 3 days on-site and 2 days remote.


Key Responsibilities

  • Database Administration: Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances (including clustered environments and AOG) based on best practices and other requirements.
  • Backup & Recovery: Manage transaction log backups, routine backup and recovery requests and coordinate with Commvault backup systems. Troubleshoot backup errors and ensure data integrity.
  • Monitoring & Performance: Integrate SQL Server with tools like ManageEngine OpManager/AppManager or Red Gate. Monitor performance metrics and optimize queries.
  • Security & Compliance: Participate in privileged access reviews and ensure compliance with internal security procedures.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with IT managers, system engineers, and application support teams to ensure seamless database operations across departments.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain documentation for database configurations, backup schedules, and access controls. Provide reports for audits and system reviews.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments.
  • Proficiency with SQL Server 2016/2019, SSMS, and SQL clustering.

looking for a mid-level SQL Server DBA consultant with experience in SQL Server database administration, clustering, always on availability groups, server management, backup & restore of SQL Server databases with focus on database migration spanning multiple SQL Server versions, multiple state agencies.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist with the assessment and documentation of existing SQL Server environments.
  • Support database migration efforts including backup/restore, scripting, data transfers, and validation.
  • Perform routine health checks and troubleshooting during and after migrations.
  • Collaborate with senior DBAs, infrastructure, and application teams.
  • Execute test migrations and contribute to performance tuning and optimization.
