The following are the duties of this position at the full working level.

  • Leading the implementation of security programs designed to anticipate, assess, and minimize system vulnerabilities, coordinating the implementation of security programs across platforms (Tier I, II and III) and establishing vulnerability reporting criteria.
  • Reviewing proposed new systems, networks, and software designs for potential security risks, recommending mitigation or countermeasures, and resolving integration issues related to the implementation of new systems within the existing infrastructure.
  • Assessing new systems design methodologies to improve software quality, accurately representing customer requirements, effectively measuring software development risk, presenting recommendations for adoption of new methodologies to senior management officials, and leading implementation.
  • Investigating, evaluating and selecting tools and methods for improving productivity and software quality throughout the life cycle, assessing the feasibility of adopting new software design technologies within the current systems environment, and developing best practices guides for use by other applications software specialists.
  • Providing authoritative advice to other specialists in areas such as disaster recovery, capacity planning, applications development, hardware strategy, and operating systems security, and developing and implementing agency guidelines.

BASIC REQUIREMENT : Experience must include Information Technology (IT) related experience that demonstrates each of the following four competencies: 1) Attention to Detail, 2) Customer Service, 3) Oral Communication and 4) Problem Solving.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-14: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes Experience that demonstrates accomplishment of computer project assignments that required a wide range of knowledge of computer requirements and techniques pertinent to the position to be filled. This knowledge is generally demonstrated through assignments that required the ability to analyze a number of alternative approaches in the process of advising management concerning major aspects of IT system design. This would include defining what system interrelationships must be considered, or what operating mode, system software, and/or equipment configuration is most appropriate for a given project.

Job Title - IT Technician

Job Duties:

The IT Technician will report to the Head of School/Principal/CEO and will

complete but not limited to the following duties:

Job Summary:

The IT Technician is responsible for maintaining the school's technology infrastructure, providing technical support, and ensuring the efficient operation of IT systems across departments. This role includes troubleshooting hardware and software issues, managing networks, installing and configuring IT systems, and supporting end-users. The IT Technician will also play a key role in implementing IT protocols and best practices to enhance school operations.

Key Responsibilities:
Technical Support & Troubleshooting:
  • Provide first-line technical support to teachers, staff, and students.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues efficiently.
  • Act as a liaison between end users and higher-level IT support.
  • Provide training and technical assistance on IT systems and networks.
Hardware & Network Maintenance:
  • Install, configure, and maintain IT equipment, including computers, printers, network cards, and other devices.
  • Assist in managing and troubleshooting network infrastructure, including TCP/IP, LAN/WAN configurations, and Wi-Fi networks.
  • Monitor system and network performance, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Perform system troubleshooting, repairs, and data restoration.
  • Conduct routine maintenance activities such as backups and security updates.
  • Maintain software licenses and upgrade schedules as required.
IT Strategy & Implementation:
  • Institute protocols for the use of IT across school departments and projects.
  • Provide recommendations on the most suitable IT solutions for the school's needs.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to ensure IT standards and functionality are maintained.
  • Support the organization in various capacities as needed.
Security & Compliance:
  • Ensure cybersecurity measures are in place, including antivirus updates and data protection policies.
  • Monitor and enforce IT security protocols to protect school data and systems.
  • Support compliance with school IT policies, NJDOE fingerprinting requirements, and industry best practices.
Other Duties:
  • Assist in setting up IT equipment for school events, meetings, and presentations.

  • Perform related duties as assigned by the IT Manager or Administration.
Requirements

Job Requirements:
  • Experience in network management and help desk support is desired.
  • Strong knowledge of IT systems, applications, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP protocols and LAN/WAN configuration.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair hardware/software issues.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Pays high attention to detail and has the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Education in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred.

  • The incumbent ensures the integration of IT programs and services; developing solutions to integration/interoperability issues; and designing, developing, and managing IT security systems that meet current and future business requirements. Also, the incumbent is responsible for applying or extending, enhancing, or optimizing the existing architecture; managing assigned projects; communicating complex technical requirements to non-technical personnel; and preparing and presenting briefings to senior management officials on complex/controversial issues. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 level in the Federal Service. Examples of specialized experience includes: demonstrated accomplishment of computer project assignments that required a wide range of knowledge of computer requirements and techniques pertinent to the position to be filled. This knowledge is generally demonstrated through assignments that required the ability to analyze a number of alternative approaches in the process of advising management concerning major aspects of IT system design. This would include defining what system interrelationships must be considered, or what operating mode, system software, and/or equipment configuration is most appropriate for a given project. At this level your experience must show experience independently leading the development of an enterprise IT modernization plan including methods, metrics, tools, and techniques of business process reengineering, contracting and/or procurement; Advising other IT experts throughout the agency or in other agencies on a variety of situations and issues that involve applying or adapting new theories, concepts, principles, standards, methods, or practices developed by you or under your leadership; the ability to serve as senior expert and consultant to top agency management officials to advise on integrating IT programs with other programs to accomplish mission requirements.

Job Description

Utilizing desktop, mobile, and cellular apparatus and cutting edge software, it strives to use all tools at its disposal in its crime-fighting efforts.  From its new headquarters, there is a state-of-the-art tier 3 data center, along with ergonomic workstations for the IT staff, IT is at the forefront of these efforts.  The Information Technology Manager oversees the greater part of the IT operation, including the Applications and IT Support teams along with direct engagement of Police personnel.  Consulting with the Director, Information Technology, this role supports the Platform Engineering team, as well as the administrative and budgetary functions of the entire staff.  This position reports to the Director, Information Technology.

Essential Functions

  • Determine the goals of IT initiatives within broad outlines provided by OIT executive management and Police Department echelon.
  • Ensure PC’s and Printer equipment is deployed to multiple locations and refreshed as necessary. 
  • Manage the work efforts of the Applications, and IT Support teams, including the Service Desk.
  • Contribute to the continuity of computer services by providing necessary technical leadership and project coordination.
  • Ensure Service Tickets are dealt with in a timely fashion.
  • Review/evaluate requests for purchases of hardware/software for feasibility and necessary funding.
  • Forecast costs, equipment, overtime and personnel needs for projects and programs as required and related to Police Department MIS operations.
  • Prepare long and short-range plans for application selection, systems development, and acquisition of the resources needed to support them.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with both internal and external clients utilizing Police Department information technology resources.
  • Uphold IT standards, policies, and procedures including CJIS requirements.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in MIS technology.
  • Determine staff development requirements and ensures technical support staff receives suitable training.
  • Monitor and provide status updates for activities related to Police IT operations and staff assignments.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years related information systems experience in a management capacity.
  • Experience in a governmental environment a plus.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Innovation & Technology and Human Resources.

Salary Range: $105,000 - $115,000
