Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Information Technology (IT) Specialist is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the IT systems under the direction of Corporate Headquarters IT. The incumbent will focus on specific computer networks, databases, and system administration. Under supervision, the IT Specialist will install, configure, service, repair, and maintain information technology systems in both a stand-alone and client-server environment. The IT Specialist will also participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the organization and ensure that system hardware, operating systems, and software systems are fully operational.

Key duties include but not limited to the following:

Provides support to end users by way of telephone, email, and the helpdesk ticketing system.

Troubleshoot systems and hardware, including PC’s, servers, network equipment, and end user applications.

Maintain Active Directory user accounts in accordance with company policies.

Configure, deploy, maintain, troubleshoot, and install new computer hardware, peripherals, mobile devices, and software for end-users in-house and remotely.

Responsible for the desktop imaging process, ensuring all systems are running a standardized configuration.

Records, responds to, diagnoses, escalates, follows up, and documents solutions to problems.

Diagnose and resolve problems associated with application software, hardware, and operating systems; determine the source of the issues and classify their level of urgency and nature.

Assist with end-user cybersecurity training across all sites.

Assist with network and domain migration projects.

Adheres to all IT processes, policies, standards, and procedures.

The IT Specialist may be assigned other duties as deemed necessary to complete the goals and objectives of the department.

Requirements: Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Physical Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline (Computer Science/Information Technology/Computer Engineering) or equivalent experience, 3+ years’ work experience or 2+ years’ experience in desktop and/or help desk support.

Strong project, time management and conflict resolution skills.

Excellent customer service skills for a diverse customer base.

Experience in PC installation.

Proficient with Microsoft Windows 10, Windows Server 2012/2016/2019.

Knowledge of PC and Server hardware.

Strong attention to detail with an emphasis on written and verbal skills.

Ability to explain concepts and instruct employees through troubleshooting processes.

Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.

Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.

Must pass Department of Homeland Security background check, pre-placement physical and pre-employment drug-screen.

Preferred Skills:

Experience using helpdesk ticketing software.

Knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure, SCCM, and Intune MDM.

Knowledge of Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware.

Knowledge of SAN and backup/disaster recovery appliances.

Knowledge of networking components such as firewalls, routers, switches, and wireless access points.

Knowledge of Cloud based phone systems.

Industry certifications, such as CASP, CEH, CISSP, GSEC, GCIH, Sec+, Net+, A+, Cloud+, CCNA, CCNP, CCDP, CCDA, MCP, MCSA, MCSE, MCITP, MTA.

Working Conditions:

This job operates in a manufacturing setting and professional office environment. Must be able to work in the chemical plant safely and get into tight spaces. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Some of the work will require exposure to loud noises or fumes in the plant facility, collaborating with officials, plant managers and employees.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

  • Leading the implementation of security programs designed to anticipate, assess, and minimize system vulnerabilities, coordinating the implementation of security programs across platforms (Tier I, II and III) and establishing vulnerability reporting criteria.
  • Reviewing proposed new systems, networks, and software designs for potential security risks, recommending mitigation or countermeasures, and resolving integration issues related to the implementation of new systems within the existing infrastructure.
  • Assessing new systems design methodologies to improve software quality, accurately representing customer requirements, effectively measuring software development risk, presenting recommendations for adoption of new methodologies to senior management officials, and leading implementation.
  • Investigating, evaluating and selecting tools and methods for improving productivity and software quality throughout the life cycle, assessing the feasibility of adopting new software design technologies within the current systems environment, and developing best practices guides for use by other applications software specialists.
  • Providing authoritative advice to other specialists in areas such as disaster recovery, capacity planning, applications development, hardware strategy, and operating systems security, and developing and implementing agency guidelines.

BASIC REQUIREMENT : Experience must include Information Technology (IT) related experience that demonstrates each of the following four competencies: 1) Attention to Detail, 2) Customer Service, 3) Oral Communication and 4) Problem Solving.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-14: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes Experience that demonstrates accomplishment of computer project assignments that required a wide range of knowledge of computer requirements and techniques pertinent to the position to be filled. This knowledge is generally demonstrated through assignments that required the ability to analyze a number of alternative approaches in the process of advising management concerning major aspects of IT system design. This would include defining what system interrelationships must be considered, or what operating mode, system software, and/or equipment configuration is most appropriate for a given project.

Job Description:

  • The successful candidate will have solid knowledge of Windows Desktop, iOS, system imaging, application deployment methods, and desktop support. This role will be part of a small team that is responsible for the entire IT infrastructure. This is a hands-on and in-office role that includes all service desk support activities including (but not limited to) installing, configuring, and maintaining Windows Desktops, Smart Phones, Tablets, Printers, and various other types of hardware and software.

The following are the duties of this position at the full working level.

  • The incumbent ensures the integration of IT programs and services; developing solutions to integration/interoperability issues; and designing, developing, and managing IT security systems that meet current and future business requirements. Also, the incumbent is responsible for applying or extending, enhancing, or optimizing the existing architecture; managing assigned projects; communicating complex technical requirements to non-technical personnel; and preparing and presenting briefings to senior management officials on complex/controversial issues. Additional work assignments include leading IT systems development projects from design to support; evaluating the effectiveness of installed systems and services; and providing advice on and devising solutions to a wide range of IT issues. The incumbent performs the following specific assignments:
  • Provides a standard common business vocabulary, expresses strategic requirements, outlines high-level integrated designs to meet those requirements and aligns with enterprise strategy. Defines how data will be stored, consumed, integrated and managed by different data entities and IT systems, as well as any applications using or processing that data in some way.
  • Visualizes and designs the Service's enterprise data management framework to align with enterprise strategy and execution. Analyzes across multiple data domains, defines strategies to reduce data redundancy, improve data availability, and accessibility by partnering with the technical teams, and delivers a maintainable and reusable data architecture.

Experience must include Information Technology (IT) related experience that demonstrates each of the following four competencies: 1) Attention to Detail, 2) Customer Service, 3) Oral Communication and 4) Problem Solving.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 level in the Federal Service. Examples of specialized experience includes: demonstrated accomplishment of computer project assignments that required a wide range of knowledge of computer requirements and techniques pertinent to the position to be filled. This knowledge is generally demonstrated through assignments that required the ability to analyze a number of alternative approaches in the process of advising management concerning major aspects of IT system design. This would include defining what system interrelationships must be considered, or what operating mode, system software, and/or equipment configuration is most appropriate for a given project. At this level your experience must show experience independently leading the development of an enterprise IT modernization plan including methods, metrics, tools, and techniques of business process reengineering, contracting and/or procurement; Advising other IT experts throughout the agency or in other agencies on a variety of situations and issues that involve applying or adapting new theories, concepts, principles, standards, methods, or practices developed by you or under your leadership; the ability to serve as senior expert and consultant to top agency management officials to advise on integrating IT programs with other programs to accomplish mission requirements.

Summary The Information Technology Technician II will report to the PC Systems Manager with reviews also conducted by the Assistant Circuit Executive for Information Technology. This position will perform help desk, technical, and end-user support activities in chambers and all court units of the circuit court (Atlanta headquarters and remote locations in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia). They will perform all IT support services necessary to assist local end users in the performance of their jobs. Responsibilities The work involves routine to complex troubleshooting for hardware and software systems. This position will help prepare and maintain documentation for local programs and processes.
