Our accelerated learning program allows participants to explore various functions of IT across multiple UPMC divisions, such as the Corporate Services, Health Services, and Insurance Services divisions. Rotation placements can be in the functions of software engineering, project management, and analyst roles in areas such as (but not limited to) information security, enterprise architecture, custom application development, project management, coding and testing, infrastructure, Electronic Heath Record (EHR) support, and strategic planning.

Along with having the chance to learn from four different IT teams during your rotations at UPMC, there are also many other benefits to the ITR Program?This program is a full-time, salaried position at UPMC (and eligible for all the fantastic UPMC employee benefits). Program participants have the opportunity to network with high-level executives, give back to the Pittsburgh community through service events, receive guidance from a personal advisor who is an IT leader, and build lasting connections within UPMC. Upon completion of the program, graduates are highly sought after for complex roles across the organization.

This role provides in-person, hybrid, and remote work (dependent on rotation placement), but highly encourages candidates to be located in Pittsburgh to participate in the full scope of the ITR Program.

About the Program
As a Summer Associate, you will have an opportunity to participate in a full-time, 11-week summer internship program with a world-renowned health care provider, whose hospitals are consistently ranked on U.S. News & World Report's Annual Honor Roll of America's Best Hospitals. The Summer Associates Program is a highly competitive, compensated summer internship for college students interested in pursuing a career in Information Technology. Whatever your interest in Information Technology is - highly technical to non-technical spaces and everything in between - the IT Summer Associates Program is the place for you! Our program spans multiple UPMC divisions, such as our Corporate Services, Health Services (hospitals and clinical spaces), and Insurance Services (Health Plan) divisions. In the past, IT Summer Associates have worked in areas such as (but not limited to) information security, enterprise architecture, custom application development, project management, coding and testing, infrastructure, Electronic Health Record (EHR) support and strategic planning. The start date for this program is June 2026.
Wherever your placement, Summer Associates have the opportunity to network with UPMC Executives, give back to the Pittsburgh community through the Program service events, receive mentorship, learn through hands-on training and real-world experience, and most importantly, work on projects that make an impact on patient care and the future of healthcare.

Internship Structure:

• Internship assignments are 10 weeks long and take place in person at one of our core locations (Pittsburgh, PA or Chicago, IL).

• Internship assignments and their respective locations are determined based on business need and interviewer's assessment. Applicant preference is also taken into consideration.

• The internship provides significant exposure to Enterprise IT and technology leaders at Wabtec.

Minimum Requirements:

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's Degree program at an accredited university or credentialed software accelerator program

• Degree focused in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, IT Security, Informatics, Information Science/Technology, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering, Security and Risk Analysis, or other relevant STEM majors with Software/IT experience

• Minimum cumulative or in-major 3.0/4.0 GPA

• Must commit to working full time (40 hrs/wk) during the internship

• Must be a rising junior or senior with expected graduation between December 2026 - June 2028

• Open to applicants legally authorized to work in the U.S., without the need for current or future work status authorization or visa sponsorship for employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Prior internship, co-op, or research experience in IT, software, or related area

• Strong analytical skills

Our hourly rates for summer internships range from $20 to $33/hr. The actual hourly rate is based on a matrix determined by your year in school/graduation year and your major. This role provides in-person, hybrid, and remote work (dependent on rotation placement), but highly encourages candidates to be located in Pittsburgh to participate in the full scope of the ITR Program.

+ Bachelor's degree with a graduation date of Spring of 2025 or current Senior pursuing a bachelor's degree with a target graduation date of December 2025.
+ Majoring in computer science, information systems, health information systems, or related field required
+ Cumulative GPA of 3.0 preferred
+ Preference will be given to candidates that have demonstrated leadership ability through their studies, employment, or extracurricular activities
+ Willingness to be located in the Pittsburgh area preferred

In the Associate - Information Technology Development Program, you will gain industry knowledge and engage with our senior leaders. The WESCO Information Technology Development Program is a 24-month rotational program designed to prepare you for a technology-based role once the program ends. Within each rotation you will work directly under the supervision of one of our IT leaders and be paired with a peer mentor.

You will work in our Pittsburgh, PA HQ or Glenview, IL corporate office, you'll be immersed with project-based initiatives and operations assignments with possible rotations in the following areas:

• Enterprise Architecture and Technology Improvement

• Supply and Demand Planning
• Warehouse management

• Customer Relationship Management

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree - Business-related field i.e., Information technology, Information
• Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA
• Superior technical skills as well as strong organizational and interpersonal skills
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint
• Strong entrepreneurial spirit and passion of achieving results
• Ability to collaborate effectively using Microsoft Teams with a geographically spread team
• High level of attention to detail and ability to multi-task
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Authorization to work in the United States
• Prior internship in business related field
