Under the general direction of the California Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division Assistant Chief, the Information Technology Specialist II will serve as a Strategic and Technical Analyst performing complex and sensitive tasks in support of the CJIS Division to support and lead the strategic direction for complex efforts and critical projects that include but are not limited to the areas of Technology Management, Business Strategy, IT Governance, and Enterprise Architecture. The Strategic and Technical Analyst will serve as a technology generalist working directly with the CJIS Assistant Chief and the CJIS executive management team to independently plan, organize, and manage complex analytical tasks related to the ongoing collaboration and oversight of critical CJIS initiatives leveraging project management best practices.
The Strategic and Technical Analyst works collaboratively with the CJIS management team, briefs and advises the CJIS Assistant Chief, exercises a high degree of initiative, independence of action and originality, and demonstrates tact and good judgement. The incumbent must be able to communicate effectively in order to develop and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships. The Strategic and Technical Analyst must be able to adapt easily to changing priorities.

Under direction of the Information Technology Manager I, the Information Technology Specialist I, as a member of the E-mail & Server Support Unit, administers and maintains the department's electronic messaging system(s), acts as the lead administrator for the departments eDiscovery system. Monitors server infrastructure and server usage, ensuring a high performing, secure, and stable operational environment. Provides recommendations and plans for improvements to the department's IT environment. Documents internal policies or develops training for end-users. The majority of the duties for this position are in the System Engineering domain. Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Administers systems to protect messages and data from unauthorized access, ensuring all messages and data sent by internal/external messaging servers are free from threats. Monitors messaging systems for nefarious activities and implements processes to stop threats that could cripple the department's servers and network.
• Ensures messaging systems operate at optimum by analyzing traffic for bottlenecks and threats, upgrading hardware and software, redesigning systems, and implementing security policies.
• Performs routine troubleshooting and problem resolution for user issues and requests input through our ticketing system
• Responds to monitoring alerts and alarm conditions to investigate and repair immediate break/fix issues, accepts issue escalations from other support teams and works on assigned projects
• Serve as the department's eDiscovery, Public Request Act (PRA), and Litigation Hold Administrator
• Serve as primary point of contact, liaison among, and partner to in-house legal division as well as collaborating with IT Security, Attorney General's office, and other divisions for e-Discovery-related matter
• Manage various aspects of Microsoft Intune and implement Universal printing solutions.
• Administer Active Directory and Entra ID for secure and efficient user identity and access management.

Under the general direction of the California Justice Information Services (CJIS), Enterprise Services Bureau, Project Management & Procurement Branch (PMPB) Assistant Bureau Director, the Information Technology Manager I is responsible for managing and overseeing the Consolidated Firearms Project Section.
The incumbent performs functions in the role of project manager over the most complex and sensitive information technology (IT) project activities for the Consolidated Firearms Project Section, California Department of Justice (DOJ). The incumbent demonstrates all the necessary qualities to effectively manage a project at the scale of the Consolidated Firearms Project, apply leadership skills and play a key role in the success in the department's implementation of the Consolidated Firearms Project, use of IT and to the business as a whole. The incumbent also possesses the general and technical competencies needed to train/mentor staff and project team members who are part of the Consolidated Firearms Project in a complex technical area or processes. The incumbent performs the most difficult or sensitive work for the Consolidated Firearms Project that ensures the IT project management functions are executed by the project team members with clear lines of accountability. The level of decision making regarding the work to be done includes largely undefined issues and elements related to the Consolidated Firearms Project. The Consolidated Firearms Project Manager's assignment includes managing the mandated changes to nearly a dozen firearms IT systems. The incumbent will facilitate and communicate changes to processes to deliver desired value and goals of the business that are part of the Consolidated Firearms Project. The incumbent will use industry standard methodologies to perform process analysis and to achieve project objectives. The incumbent will provide leadership, motivation, coaching, remove roadblocks, and inspire the team to do their best work to effectively and efficiently meet the goals and mandates of the Consolidated Firearms Project. The Auditor-Controller's Office is seeking a motivated and skilled IT professional to join our Information Technology Team. This role focuses on troubleshooting, analyzing, and resolving system and application-related issues. Core responsibilities include Help Desk operations, website maintenance, Active Directory (AD) management, PC deployment, IT asset tracking, and other technical support services.

DEFINITION
Performs professional duties related to the analysis, development, maintenance and administration of computer hardware and software systems to meet business needs. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
