Penske Logistics is seeking a proven leader with relevant experience and skills to join our team of transportation and logistics professionals. We are seeking a candidate to supervise drivers at one of our locations.
The Operations Manager provides leadership to leading staff to ensure customer requirements are achieved while meeting our Penske goals and objectives.
**Position Summary:**
Lead teams in a dynamic operational environment, to consistently exceed established goals, demonstrate a commitment to customers and a dedication to excellence and innovation. Develop forward looking plans and turn those plans into successful execution. Effectively manage resources to achieve operational excellence and meet or exceed the site financial operating plan. Implement and maintain an incident free safety culture at the operation.
**Schedule** : Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Hours may vary depending on business needs)
**Salary** : $83,600 - 112,800 - Position is bonus eligible up to 30% of the base salary
**Major Responsibilities:**
**People**
- Establish and sustain that all supervisors and associates are trained and competent and understand how their work relates to the customers' business objectives
- Establish and sustain that we recruit, hire, train, develop and retain quality associates.

**Operations**
- Meet or exceed all customer key performance metrics and objectives
- Interact daily with local customer to ensure existing and emerging customer needs are understood
- Lead team to identify operational improvements in areas such as route optimization, carrier selection, backhauls, and trailer loading
- Collaborate with other Penske sites to share best practices, leverage resources/assets, etc.
**Finance**
- Develop and execute annual financial and operating plan
- Lead the operation with integrity to meet or exceed the Business Plan targets
- Identify issues with the operating metrics and P&L and make required adjustments in a timely manner
- Ensure customer billings and associate payroll are prepared timely and accurately, the payables and intercompany charges are valid and correct, and all other activities are accurately reflected in the P&L.
**Safety**
- Lead a culture of safety through personal example
- Develop, execute, and assess continuous improvement plan to reduce accident and injury frequency
- Ensure each associate understands their individual role and responsibilities, as well as the group's role and responsibilities required to achieve and maintain a safe work place
- Proactively identify and correct unsafe conditions, work processes, and behaviors
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies, company policies and procedures
- Coach through safety observations
**Growth/Customer Experience**
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and challenge the status quo
- Execute a process to track and record value delivered to the customer
- Identify and seize profitable business opportunities for the customer and Penske
- Utilize available metrics to monitor and maximize customer efficiencies and achieve cost savings.
**Fleet/Assets**
- Lead effort to improve fleet/equipment utilization, maintenance availability and fuel efficiency
- Contribute to equipment specification at time of start-up and renewal
- Build a strong working relationship with local PTL district and other equipment vendors
- Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor
**Qualifications:**
- 4 - 6 years related functional experience.
- 3+ years managerial or supervisory experience with DOT regulated positions required
- High School degree or equivalent required
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint required
- Must have ability to connect and build rapport and relationships with associates and external customers at all levels
- Must have ability to work efficiently with time management and organizational skills with follow-up and follow through
- Ability to manage through a problem and think and make decisions independently
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute annual financial operating plan
- Ability to drive process improvement and lead change
- Must demonstrate ownership & responsibility for running the operation with a sense of urgency
- Strong written/oral communication including the ability to present in front of others, and demonstrate active listening skills are required

JOB SUMMARY
This position provides support to the transportation manager/director in supervising the activities related to delivery and backhauls. This includes, training and supervising transportation department associates, compliance with government regulations and promoting safety and security of the transportation department.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises the daily work and safety of transportation associates, including adherence to standard operating procedures, Food Safety Standards and preferred work methods, adherence to planned routes, and providing safe and efficient customer service.

Oversees labor hours and consumable supplies within budget.

Education

Position Overview:
The Transportation Specialist is a crucial member of the Transportation Network Design team, tasked with ensuring the seamless execution of transportation strategies and optimizing local operations. This role acts as the bridge between high-level network design and the day-to-day operational realities, focusing on tracking local transportation expenses, managing driver route assignments, and aligning local operations with broader network goals. - Effective Local Transportation Spend Tracking:
- Monitor Local Transportation Spend: Track transportation costs at a granular level, including fuel, tolls, driver wages, carrier costs, and maintenance expenses.
- Cost Control & Accountability: Collaborate with the Transportation Network Design team to align local transportation expenses with broader cost-saving initiatives and optimization strategies.
- Real-Time Updates for Samsara Route Management:
- Maintain Samsara Routes: Ensure accurate, real-time GPS tracking and route optimization by updating route data in the Samsara fleet management tool.
- Route Optimization: Adjust routes based on local conditions (traffic, road closures) to minimize delays, reduce fuel consumption, and enhance on-time delivery performance.
- Ensure Alignment Between Local and Network-Level Goals:
- Bridging Local and Network Strategies: Ensure local operations align with network-wide transportation strategies and overall transportation objectives.
- Local Feedback Loop: Provide regular feedback on local challenges, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities to the Transportation Network Design team.
- Local-Level Optimization:
- Site-Specific Adjustments: Modify routes and plans to address site-specific transportation needs (e.g., local regulations, delivery types, varying volumes).
- Resource Allocation: Ensure efficient use of transportation resources to optimize fleet capacity and improve service levels.
- Real-Time Problem Solving & Route Management:
- Adapt to Operational Changes: Respond to unforeseen operational issues (e.g., weather disruptions, driver schedule changes) by adjusting routes accordingly.
- Driver Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers, resolving issues related to routes, schedules, and GPS navigation.

- Data Reporting & Analysis: Collect and analyze data on transportation operations, including spend, route performance, driver efficiency, and vehicle utilization.
- KPI Monitoring: Track key performance indicators (e.g., fuel consumption, delivery times, maintenance needs) and provide actionable insights to improve efficiency.

- Standardized Route Management: Ensure consistency in route management and spend tracking across multiple sites to maintain operational continuity.
- Scalability & Replication: Facilitate the replication of best practices across sites as the business expands to new locations.
- Supporting Operational Efficiency:
- Operational Continuity: Ensure smooth day-to-day routing and transportation management to support broader organizational goals.
- Proactive Issue Identification: Identify inefficiencies or potential issues (e.g., late deliveries, high fuel consumption) and resolve them before escalation.
- Facilitate Cross-Department Collaboration:
- Collaboration with Fleet, Safety, and Operations: Work closely with fleet management, safety, and operations teams to ensure adherence to safety policies and operational standards.
- Information Sharing: Share up-to-date local transportation data with the Transportation Network Design team to support decision-making.
- Compliance and Safety Adherence:
- Safety Protocols on Routes: Ensure routes comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., weight limits, road restrictions).
- Compliance Reporting: Ensure local transportation activities adhere to internal policies, industry regulations, and safety standards.
- Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement local process improvements, such as more efficient route planning or fuel savings.
- Technology Integration: Drive the adoption of new fleet management technologies to enhance route optimization and reporting.
Requirements:
- Experience: 2-5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or fleet management, with a focus on local transportation operations and route optimization.
- Analytical Skills: Strong data analysis and reporting skills, with experience in monitoring transportation KPIs and cost metrics.
- Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues in real-time, minimizing disruptions to transportation operations.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with multiple departments and provide clear updates to stakeholders.

Role
The selected candidate will work as part of a team and will be responsible for transportation planning including data analysis and reporting; mapping, graphics, and visualization; use of technical tools; innovative research; and meeting participation on a wide variety of transportation projects. The candidate will be involved in projects based on experience, interest, and skills, such as transit development plans; transit service and operations planning; regional transportation plans; bus rapid transit and priority corridor plans; active transportation; transportation strategic planning and performance monitoring; transportation demand management planning; and microtransit and micromobility planning.
Responsibilities will include:
- Participating in a variety of project types as well as projects with different project managers.
- Developing and applying a variety of methods for analysis.
- Conducting Geographic Information System (GIS) based analysis and developing maps for conveying complex information.
- Conducting primary and secondary research on a variety of topics.
- Writing to convey technical elements in reports.
- Visualizing and communicating complex information.
- Contributing to team discussions.
- Participating in public and stakeholder outreach.
In addition to having the appropriate training and skills, you must be a smart, motivated, self-starter who is passionate about transit and transportation planning and has excellent written and oral communication skills.
Requirements vary by level within the Junior Transportation Planner and Transportation Planner IV/Task Lead positions. They range from a bachelor’s degree with no full-time work experience to a master’s degree with several years of relevant work experience. Additionally, the selected candidate must have:
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Proven writing, research, and analysis capabilities.
- Experience with ArcGIS.
- Other desired, but not required, skills include:

Compensation
Salary can range from $67,100 to $92,000 depending on education, experience, and relevance of experience.

Your Daily Responsibilities
As a Transportation Specialist, you are the public face of Access Information Management.
