About the Role: Under general direction, the Transportation Supervisor assists in the daily operations, training, and personnel management of the district's transportation department. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of students, while also supervising and supporting transportation staff in alignment with district, state, and federal policies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field preferred; OR Four (4) years of experience in the transportation field, including two (2) years in a supervisory role.
- Must have experience as a certified bus driver.
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements.
- DPS Bus Driver Certification.
- Hold or able to obtain DPS School Bus Driver Classroom and Behind-the-Wheel Trainer Certifications.
- Knowledge of supervision principles, staff development, and personnel management.
- Strong understanding of transportation planning and operational logistics.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local transportation regulations and compliance standards.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage and maintain data and records accurately.
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, schools, and the public.
- Proficiency in computer usage, including data entry and retrieval.

- Attend and lead safety meetings; promote and reinforce a culture of safety and accountability.
- May be required to drive buses for regular routes or extracurricular events as needed.

- Answer any safety questions that may arise while making deliveries
- Investigate IMS driver/truck incidents including legal citations or tickets in the course of delivery, accidents, property damage caused by trucks and material falling off the truck.
- Provides informal and formal counseling sessions with drivers as needed.
- Provides periodic feedback and evaluation of the performance of drivers in accordance with IMS policy.
- Ability to organize daily responsibilities for maximum effectiveness. Ability to take ownership of, and focus on critical initiatives.

Role is responsible for execution, continuous improvement, and problem solving of supply chain processes to achieve business results. Required to understand downstream customer requirements to meet expectations. Role drives change through applying fundamental theories, principles, and concepts of supply chain, and lean manufacturing. Candidate must be local to the AZ area as relocation is not available for this position.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Understand and communicate value stream and/or supply chain capacity and constraints
- Drives significant improvements on business processes and projects through the use of problem-solving tools such as Value Stream Mapping, A3s or Plan-Do-Check-Act.
- Perform root cause analysis and drive corrective actions for problems across supply chain processes.
- Participate in supply chain projects within the value stream (plan, source, make, deliver); develop and complete project work plans, provide required status reports.
- Regularly utilize lean tools and other business processes such as Kanban, spike tools, 5Y and other project management tools.
- Maintain relationships with internal and external business partners including suppliers, supervisors and team leads, logistics/warehouse groups and material planners.
- Communicate/present lean tool applications such as value stream and process mapping, Kaizen and PDCA.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 4-year degree in engineering, supply chain or business equivalent experience
- Working knowledge of supply chain technologies (ERP, Manufacturing Execution Systems, Warehouse Management System)
- Advanced computer skills with experience in MS Office, ERP and Reporting systems
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing tools such as pull systems, PDCA thinking, value stream mapping, process mapping and Kanban systems
- Effectively collaborate and works well with others
- Ability to understand customer needs in detail and consistently attend to meeting customer requirements
- Considers the possibility that a change of direction is required
- Strong communication skills through written, verbal and listening, and presentation techniques
