MnDOT District 8 may fill up to 11 temporary and/or emergency snowplow operator positions at the Transportation Generalist or Transportation Associates classifications in various district truck stations throughout the district. These positions will be filled in the following locations:

During a snow & ice season employees are typically split into an A or B shift, 12:00am - 12:00 pm (A shift) or 12:00pm - 12:00am (B shift); an employee may be asked to work 8-hours of work or more depending on the length of the snow event. Temporary employees have a schedule and may work two (2) to five (5) days Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm or a snow and ice shift on Saturday and Sunday. Emergency employees are intermittent fill in drivers; they work a snow and ice shift and fill in for regular operators who are not available. Hours may include overtime or various shifts depending on emergency situations and will include working nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbents must have immediate access to a phone and be able to report to work within one-hour of being called. Some examples of work are listed below and not limited to the following:
Function Snow and Ice:
+ Maintains roadways for snow and ice control
+ Prepares and inspects winter equipment
+ Performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup
+ Performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing chemical
+ Maintain documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management

**Minimum Qualifications**

**Transportation Generalist Minimum Qualifications:**
+ **Experience:** One year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, landscaping, operating heavy equipment or farm experience).
OR
+ **Education:** Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) will substitute for one year of experience.
AND
+ Valid Commercial Drivers' License, Class A or B with no air brake restriction.
+ Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
**Transportation Associate Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Valid Commercial Drivers' License, Class A or B with no air brake restriction.
+ Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Preference will be given to applicants willing to work nights and weekends.
+ Preference will be given to applicants who have a tanker endorsement.
**Physical Requirements**
The physical demands of this job will vary, but typically requires lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects such as 50-pound bags. This job also may require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or let controls. This job will require strenuous manual labor including but not limited to digging, shoveling, hauling, crawling, bending, pushing, pulling and climbing.
Weather elements: May require frequent exposure to weather elements (cold and hot) on a daily basis.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position also provides assistance to Project Superintendents, temporary assignment as “stand in” superintendent, and other tasks and duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Warehouse & Material Logistics

    • Monitor construction material inventory and ensure timely delivery to job sites.
    • Organize and maintain warehouse materials, supplies, and tools to support field operations.
    • Perform continuous cleanup and organization of sites, warehouse, trucks, and equipment.

Tool & Equipment Management

    • Maintain inventory of all construction tools and equipment.
    • Organize, track, and secure tools and equipment at the end of each shift.
    • Conduct basic repairs and preventative maintenance , including:
      • Oil changes for generators
      • Spark plug replacements
      • Small engine diagnostics
      • Painting equipment to maintain a professional appearance
    • Order parts and equipment as needed to support operations.
    • Haul equipment to and from job sites , ensuring timely and safe delivery.

      • Job trailer setup and demobilization
      • Equipment troubleshooting and repairs
    • Maintain construction schedules by serving as a backup for Project Superintendents during their absence.

Facility & Grounds Maintenance

      • Provide interior and exterior upkeep of the Waite Park office, including:
