Job Description:

To be eligible to apply for this position, you must be a current student enrolled at McDaniel College. This position is open to work study and campus employment students.

• Dates: 7/2017- 9/2024
• Salary Grade: Maryland Minimum Wage
• FSLA Status: Non-exempt
• Location of Position: Big Baker Chapel, McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, MD 21157
• Duration of Appointment: 8/6/2025-5/20/2026
• Schedule: Schedule is at discretion of supervisor
• Evaluation Procedures: Student workers are evaluated on a continuing basis

Responsibilities:

The tutor will meet on a weekly basis to:

• Review lecture and discussion materials with students from their respective course(s)
• Provide additional support to students struggling to understand the course material
• Assist students with preparation for tests and finals
• Assist students to conceptualize small stake assignments, essays and research papers
• Late afternoon or evening availability
• Other duties as assigned

Respective faculty will assist and supervise tutors in the philosophy department on a regular basis.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

• Current student at McDaniel who has taken Elementary Logic in a past semester
• Advanced knowledge of Elementary Logic
• Strong communication and human relations skills
• Highly organized and detail oriented
• Excellent time management skills
• Able to work independently with little to no supervision

Position Overview

Tutor Partners is seeking passionate and reliable virtual middle school math tutors to help students in grades 6–8 strengthen skills, close learning gaps, and build confidence in mathematics. Key Responsibilities

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or 24+ college credits required (Bachelor's degree preferred)

• Strong knowledge of middle school math content, including but not limited to:

• Ratios, rates, and proportions

• Integers and rational numbers
• Expressions, equations, and inequalities
• Functions and linear relationships
• Geometry (area, surface area, volume, angles, transformations)
• Statistics, probability, and data analysis
• Experience teaching or tutoring middle school students
• Reliable technology and internet for virtual instruction

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Tutor to provide individualized support academic and developmental support to individuals with special learning needs.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong instructional skills, patience, a genuine commitment to fostering growth in an individualized learning environment, have a strong background in special education and a passion for helping students achieve their academic goals.

Duties

• Assess individual learning needs and develop one-on-one academic support that align with their IEP goals.
• Implement structured lessons and activities designed to encourage educational and developmental progress.
• Adapt instructional strategies to align with the student's unique needs and abilities.
• Collaborate with parents/guardians to monitor progress and adjust strategies as needed.
• Maintain a safe, positive, and supportive in-home learning environment.
• Utilize various teaching methods, including applied behavior analysis, speech therapy, and recreational therapy, to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to ensure consistency in instructional strategies and classroom management.
• Monitor student progress through standardized testing and regular assessments, adjusting teaching methods as necessary.
• Maintain open communication with parents regarding student progress and any concerns related to behavior or academic performance.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education and instructional design.
• Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and self-confidence.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field; teaching certification preferred.
• Experience working with children with disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities.
• Knowledge of curriculum development, lesson planning, and classroom management techniques.
• Familiarity with IEP processes and the ability to implement individualized education plans effectively.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and educational staff.
• Proficiency in using learning technology to enhance educational experiences for students.
• Experience in behavioral therapy or mentoring is a plus; knowledge of music therapy is also beneficial.
