Media

**QUALIFICATIONS**
For Adjunct Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor:
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required is the ability to teach successfully.
For Adjunct Lecturer:
Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully.
Prior College level teaching is preferred. In addition, willingness to possibly work in a Learning Community environment.
**COMPENSATION**
Adjunct Lecturer: $97.25 - $04.39 per hour
Adjunct Assistant Professor: 106.09 - 112.89 per hour
Adjunct Associate Professor: 114.93 - 125.66 per hour
Adjunct Professor: 119.35 - 138.44 per hour
Salary commensureate with experience and qualifications.

The Culinary Arts Program is recognized for its leadership in Culinary Arts study and workforce training in the New York Metropolitan region. Kingsborough Community College is located in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, adjacent to Sheepshead Bay with a diverse student population who attend day, evening and weekend classes.
Duties include:
Teach courses in the diverse segments of the Culinary Arts curriculum including, but not limited to culinary arts, pastry arts, food and beverage management, artisanal bread baking, food and beverage cost control, sanitation and dining room management.

Current Serve-Safe Food Safety Certificate is required.

Course explores literature, drama, art, and music in today's world. Attempts are made to place 20th century developments into a historicl context and illustrate the continuity of culture. This class is in addtion to the teacher's regular NYCPS work day. Teacher's are expected to attend professional development meetings, assessment of instruction and related events.
**MCF 40: Film: The Creative Medium** **(3 credit, 3 hour college level course open to junior and/or senior students)**
To recognize the film medium as a creative art, students are introduced to the key elements of cinematic form: narrative, mise-en-scene, cinematography, editing, sound, and acting. Key concepts are illustrated through the viewing and analysis of select short and feature-length films. This class is in addition to the teacher's regular NYCPS work day. Teacher's are expected to attend professional development meetings, assessment of instruction and related events.
**MCM 30: Mass Media** **(3 credit, 3 hour college level course open to junior and/or senior students)**
Analysis of mass media to discover the way information is perceived and influences behavior. Extensive use is made of film and video resources to examine the message systems employed by individuals, groups, institutions and politics. Focus is on books, news, radio, film, television, advertising and social media. This class is in addtion to the teacher's regular NYCPS work day. Teacher's are expected to attend professional development meetings, assessment of instruction and related events.
**THA 50: Foundations of Theatre Arts** **(3 credit, 3 hour college level course open to junior and/or senior students)**
This survey course is designedsf to provide students with a thorough understanding and greater appreciation of the theatrical form. Readings and lectures will focus on the relationship between theatrical theory and practice, the various creative/production roles essential to theatre, as well as major artists and movements throughout theatrical history. Students will analyze major works of dramatic literature to offer context for course content, as well as attend a live theatrical performance on campus. This class is in addtion to the teacher's regular NYCPS work day. Teacher's are expected to attend professional development meetings, assessment of instruction and related events.
**QUALIFICATIONS**

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

The Expressive Arts Coordinator is responsible for development and delivery of agency-wide therapeutic art services. Coordinator works closely with clients to enhance the recovery experience through creative arts.


SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide education and awareness of mental health and recovery through art.

2. Organization and supervision of art department therapeutic arts services.

3. Maintain Odyssey House art collection and Haven Art Gallery.

4. Provide cultural education escorting clients on museum trips and events.

6. Maintain proper client documentation and attendance history.

7. Creates digital and print media promoting art program services.

8. Documents studio activities via photography and written documentation.

9. Provide creative resources for program celebrations and holiday activities.

10. Outreach and promotion of Odyssey House visiting artist program.

11. Monitors art studio inventory, materials and tools.

12. Performs general maintenance and studio repairs.

13. Assists with organization and cleaning projects.

14. Maintain best studio practices and safety procedures.

15. Attend all required clinical staff meetings and in-service trainings.


PREFERRED: EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE

1. BA and/or Masters in fine arts related field.

2. Masters and/or State certification in substance abuse counseling.

3. Proficient with Adobe Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, AWARDS and Outlook.

4. Proficient on Mac and PC platforms.

5. Knowledge of studio photography, lighting and editing.

6. 2 years experience art studio management.


ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

SUMMARY

Martial Arts instructors provide targeted skills instruction, coach youth, and train staff in New York Edge after-school programs. They organize and provide physical activity professional development to ensure the safe, effective delivery of all program activities. They must also provide instructional support at sport-specific professional development training and stress-appropriate coaching techniques.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Ensure daily activity lesson plans and projects are structured, age-appropriate, and have clear learning goals based on the provided martial and physical activity guide.

  • Communicate with the Program Director and Center for Martial Arts regarding the calendar of programs, leagues, tournaments, and special events.

  • Motivate and encourage students to participate in organization-wide Martial activities.

  • Establish and enforce safety rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.

  • Participants should be instructed on the activities' principles, techniques, and safety procedures and shown how to properly use materials and equipment.

  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.

  • Evaluate activities to determine if they are producing the desired results.

  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' needs and interests.

  • Promote and ensure the progressive development of student skills and character development in all youth.

  • Most New York Edge Martial Specialists are expected to provide support during Academic hours.

  • Adapt each activity to ensure safe participation in the space provided.


REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Must be knowledgeable and skilled in Martial Arts and have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth

  • Prior experience teaching and instructing youth preferred

  • Must be able to follow a curriculum

  • Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual!

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.

  • May be required to walk up and down stairs.

  • May have to lift or move objects/materials as needed.

  • Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School but may be required to interact with the community at-large during trips or events.



QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required; some college preferred

  • A minimum of one year of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.

  • A minimum of one year of teaching experience is required.

  • Must have passion for New York Edge's mission and demonstrated interest in education and youth development.

  • Candidates qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity are also preferred.


WORK SCHEDULE

  • 9-15 hours per week.

  • Monday through Friday -- 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm



The Martial Arts Specialist will be required to report to the school building and interact with staff, students, parents, and school administration.

At the time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.

Who We Are Looking For:
Impact Dojo is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, professional black belt instructor who believes deeply in the organization’s mission and who displays a record of achievement in effective supervision & management of youth, teaching martial arts skills and techniques, building positive relationships, and ensuring the safety and well-being of people of all ages.  We are a growing corporation and need an instructor who has experience working with children between the ages of 4 and 18.

The ideal candidate would be a martial artist with considerable skill in an art form compatible with karate and be passionate about teaching martial arts. This individual must provide constructive criticism, implement company curriculum, and be a team player.  Also demonstrate outstanding communication skills with children and their parents, which include the ability to use clear, concise, and grammatically correct written and oral language in all aspects of professional interaction with students, their families, peers, the leadership team and the larger community.

A Child abuse clearance and criminal checks are required.

Experience Requirements:
A Minimum of 2 years of previous experience working with children; examples include but are not limited to:  academic/athletic tutoring, camp counselor, and youth volunteer. Martial Arts teaching experience (1 – 5 years minimum) required.

Certification Requirements:
Teaching certification (preferred but not required)

Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree (preferred but not required)

Essential Job Responsibilities:
The Martial Arts Instructor is responsible for the supervision of students, giving martial arts-specific instruction, providing a safe and fun learning environment, and serving as a positive role model for students.

  • Provide daily martial arts instruction to students between the ages of 4 and 18 with different ability levels.
  • Demonstrate martial arts techniques, explaining the principles behind them, observe and assess students performing martial arts, and give them feedback on their progress.
  • Group supervision of students with attention to: behavior and group management, health and safety, security, and personal and skill development.
  • Ensure the safety of students and team members in and out of the martial arts area, and teach safe training habits. Enforce all martial arts rules and regulations. 
  • Organize and prepare daily lesson plans in a fun and creative manner.
  • Use effective classroom management skills to lead the activity and effectively create a fun environment where everyone feels included.
  • Work effectively with fellow Activity Specialists and collaborate on daily responsibilities. Serve as a positive role model to students.
  • Follow the Impact Dojo Code of Conduct and maintain the Impact Dojo look at all times.
  • Exhibit Impact Martial Arts Core Values at all times and adhere to all company policies.
