Role Description
• They are seeking a Cloud Engineer with solid Azure experience to help implement and manage cloud infrastructure in a secure and scalable manner.
• The contractor will work closely with senior architects and application teams to support the deployment, configuration, documentation and optimization of Azure services, networking components, and infrastructure.
• This role requires a proactive engineer who can contribute to documentation, knowledge sharing, and enforcement of cloud governance policies in a large public-sector environment.
• The engineer will support a maturing Azure environment, assisting in both new deployments and modernization of existing applications.
• 20% of their role (give or take) will be cognitive services, meaning they'll be working with other departments and educating them on the use of Azure Cloud.
Remaining 80% is hands-on.
• Assist in the setup and configuration of Core Azure subscriptions, resource groups, and environments.
• Implement Azure Policies, RBAC permissions, and tagging standards based on team guidance.

Skills & Requirements
• 3 years minimum (and must be recent; not dated) hands on experience managing and deploying azure landing zone architecture in enterprise environments
• 3 years azure networking skills (VWAN, Express Route, VPN, Firewall, VNET etc) including hybrid networking with on premises.
• 3 years experience designing Azure environments with a "private-by-default" approach which includes use of Private Endpoints, disabling public IPs, restricting access via NSGs and Azure Firewall, and enforcing policies to prevent public exposure.
• Familiarity with implementing and managing Azure Policies, RBAC, and resource tagging strategies
• Must have very strong problem solving skills and excellent communication (must be able to understand individuals and be understood!)
• AZ-104, AZ-700, AZ-305, and any other Azure Certifications

The projected compensation range for this position is $86,800.00 to $198,000.00 (annualized USD). Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Azure Cloud Engineer to lead server migration projects from on-premises environments to Microsoft Azure and private cloud platforms. This role requires deep expertise in Windows Server infrastructure, cloud identity, and secure access technologies. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience designing and executing server migrations, configuring secure hybrid cloud environments, and integrating identity services using Azure AD and related tools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute server migrations from on-premises infrastructure to Azure or private cloud environments (IaaS-focused).
- Assess existing Windows Server workloads (e.g., file servers, AD DS, application servers) and develop migration strategies.
- Build and configure cloud-based infrastructure using Azure virtual machines, storage, and networking services.
- Implement hybrid identity solutions, including Azure AD Connect, Entra ID, and domain controller extensions in Azure.
- Configure and manage Azure AD, Conditional Access, and Global Secure Access to enforce modern identity security.
- Set up and optimize supporting services such as DNS, DHCP, group policies, and SMB/NFS shares in the cloud.
- Integrate cloud-hosted workloads with security and compliance policies, including Defender for Cloud and Microsoft Sentinel (as applicable).
- Troubleshoot authentication, network, or infrastructure issues during and post-migration.
- Collaborate with networking teams to configure VPNs, firewalls, NSGs, route tables, and private endpoints.
- Document infrastructure, configurations, and standard operating procedures for client handoff.
- Work closely with project managers to ensure timelines, milestones, and success criteria are met.
- 5+ years of experience with Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) administration and migrations.
- Hands-on experience deploying and managing infrastructure in Microsoft Azure or private cloud platforms.
- Strong knowledge of Azure AD, Entra Domain Services, Azure AD Connect, and Conditional Access policies.
- Familiarity with Global Secure Access and other Microsoft cloud identity and access solutions.
- Solid understanding of networking (VPN, DNS, routing, firewalls, NSGs, subnets) in hybrid environments.
- Ability to independently lead infrastructure projects and collaborate with client stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills for technical documentation and client-facing updates.
- Microsoft certifications (e.g., AZ-104, AZ-800/801, SC-300, MS-102).
- Experience integrating security tools like Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Cloud, or Sentinel.
- Familiarity with Azure Virtual Desktop, Azure Files, or hybrid identity for legacy app environments.
- Experience in MSP or consulting environments supporting small to mid-sized clients.
