Essential Functions:
- Purchases raw materials as necessary based upon production schedules, current inventory levels, and policy as well as price and potential availability
- Purchasing supplies and materials for Production, Maintenance and Tool and Die activities. Conduct vendor research and sourcing, obtain quotations, make purchasing recommendations on all items, prepare and issue Purchase Requisitions. Purchasing activities will follow defined approval authority and company policies.
- Research MRO item requirements, sources, availabilities, costs and then recommend appropriate actions.
- Expedites delivery and follows up on purchase orders as necessary.
- Submits quotes for raw materials and purchased items as requested.
- Investigates and resolves vendor-related production and quality problems.
- Resists all price increases, notifies management of impending changes and accepts only those that can be justified.
- Maintains working relationship with existing and prospective vendors by interviewing their representatives and through on-going contact on the telephone or through the mail.
- Other duties and project work as assigned; essential functions may be supplemented due to the absence of others or changes in business conditions.

Job Summary
The Commodity Supply Planner position provides the single point of contact between the supplier and customer service. This individual's primary role is to assist with the critical day to day tactical scheduling and ordering necessary for all of Avient Distributions needs for their respective suppliers. This position's specific responsibilities are to plan inventory levels per the specific supplier goals, ensure optimal inventory deployment and manage inventory levels to meet service levels. The position requires strong computer and analytical skills combined with the ability to deal with large amounts of quantitative data. This individual must have the ability to actively listen to customer and supplier issues, efficiently troubleshoot problems and implement solutions in a timely manner.
Essential Functions
- Drives customer satisfaction and Avient profitability by balancing inventory levels and order fulfillment within established working capital guidelines.
- Enters, maintains and updates MRP forecasts for POD customers.
- Review MRP run output and create purchase orders.
- Purchase materials in most cost effective manner to meet customer requirements.
- Consider order quantities, hub and spoke opportunities, logistics modes and other cost savings opportunities.
- Build truckload STO deliveries to stocking points where possible based on material demand.
- Review MRP data to identify inventory and delivery exceptions.
- Define plan to resolve issues short term and long term.
- Maintain MRP forecasts and item notes by establishing effective communications with POD Sellers and CSRs.
- Answer material requests from POD CSRs.
- Aids in managing the supply chain to meet operating plans balancing service needs and costs.
- Perform daily schedule maintenance based on new production/customer information.
- Interact with supplier CSRs and POD sellers/DMs to resolve issues and build consensus.
- Maintain forecasted demand for stock-able products at specific warehouses using forecasting models in SAP.
- Analyze and maintain data to create information on safety stock levels and forecasting requirements.
- Work with Customer Service and Sales to resolve aged inventory issues.
Education and Experience

As we continue to grow, we are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Commodity Buyer to join our Supply Chain team and help manage key ingredients like flour, beef, pork, and chicken.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor inventory levels of major commodities and place re-orders based on usage, forecasts, and shelf-life
- Analyze market reports and provide purchase recommendations for meat and flour
- Participate in weekly commodity meetings and contribute updates and strategy
- Support least-cost meat planning and scheduling based on available inventory
- Execute and manage vendor contracts, terms, and delivery coordination
- Conduct annual bids for key categories to ensure competitive pricing
- Maintain accurate vendor records, including specifications, lead times, and service history
- Assist in sourcing new items or vendors as needed
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and escalate issues as needed
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field preferred (not required)
- 1-3 years of experience in purchasing or supply chain, preferably in food manufacturing
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of food labeling laws is a plus
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and build supplier relationships
- Fast-paced office and production setting
- Occasional lifting up to 30 lbs and physical activity
- Close collaboration across departments and with suppliers
- Salary $60,405 - $67,000 (DOE)
