This includes decontamination of surgical instruments and sterilization of instruments, supplies and equipment. Ensures all necessary instruments and supplies are prepared and ready for assembly on case carts. This position observes strict patient confidentiality following all HIPAA rules and regulations. Processes supplies and equipment, performs cleaning and sterilization duties and prepares instrument sets, supplies, loaner and consigned instruments in the Central Sterile Processing area. Maintains recommended standards for set assembly, decontamination, inspection, containerizing and sterilization of surgical instruments. Collaborates with the Perioperative Nursing staff to provide sterile instrument sets, equipment and case carts in an accurate and timely manner. We're seeking a **Sterile Processing Technician for Emory University Hospital** responsible for being a capable certified technician who cares about the quality of their work an ensuring the safety for all patients.
This individual will:
+ Assembles special procedure trays for such complex surgeries such as open heart, transplant, major orthopedic surgeries, neurosurgical, laparoscopic, and spine surgeries.
+ Uses computer to scan PIC tickets on instrument trays and case cart protocol. Properly operates cleaning and sterilization equipment such as washers, sterilizers, sonic cleaners and cart washers.
+ Restocks prep areas with supplies and takes inventory of sterile instrument pans and trays. May retrieve contaminated equipment, supplies, trays, and instruments from patient care areas for cleaning and sterilization.
+ May collect needles and sharp containers from O.R. for proper disposal.
+ Monitors all sterilization equipment by testing and recording indicators. Assists in training staff in the identification of surgical instruments and individual pans.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Have two years of experience in sterile processing environment.
+ Registered as a Central Service Technician.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The sterile processing educator provides staff/professional development expertise as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent and leader. This occurs through developing, planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs to meet the needs of the Sterile Processing (Department (SPD) and to aide in the professional development of staff. The Educator maintains open and active communication with the medical staff, patient care staff, and interdepartmental staff. The Educator ensures the competency of all SPD staff and any other unit staff member performing cleaning, assembly, High Level Disinfectant (HLD) and/or sterilization and maintains education records in compliance with regulatory guidelines. The Educator oversees quality and infection control initiatives for SPD . The Educator provides a comprehensive and technical orientation, education, and training program for Sterile Processing Department as well as any other unit staff member performing cleaning, assembly, HLD and/or sterilization. The Educator performs regular quality audits and participates in SPD Regulatory, Safety, and Infection Control Unit Rounds to ensure processes and standards are being followed.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES** - The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
-Ensures the competency of all SPD staff and maintains departmental education records in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
-Assists with daily, weekly, and monthly reporting for Infection Control, Regulatory, and Quality purposes.
-Maintains an open communication with the medical staff, patient care staff, SPD Leadership, and interdepartmental staff.
-Participates in orientation of new SPD trainees and other personnel.
-Develops educational plans and assists with performance improvement plans as needed.
-Conducts initial assessments and annual employee competencies.
-Assist staff with education of new equipment/instrumentation, products, procedures, and handling emergencies.
-Assist with Censitrac Instrumentation Tracking System to include: User information, security levels, sterilization documentation etc.
-Works collaboration with Service LineLeaders, Nurse Clinical Leaders, SPD Tech, Program Director of Quality and Safety and all Surgical Services staff.
-Conducts in-service training and documents for each employee.
-Develops and maintains a schedule for continuing education and training.
-Establish educational opportunities for all staff through workshops, computer-based programs, articles,videos, and other learning resources.
-Responsible for seeking/sharing current knowledge related to professional field, procedures, and regulations.
-Maintains all SPD competencies, certifications, and in-service attendance records.
-Participates in all departmental inspections, in-services, Regulatory, Safety, and Infection Control Rounds,and SPD huddles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
+ CRCST (HSPA) or CSPDT (CBSPD)
+ Five (5) years as a Sterile Processing Technician.
+ One (1) year as a lead trainer, preceptor, or educator.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
