We are seeking a Math Teacher (grades 9-12) who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with learning differences and mental health/behavioral challenges.

The Glenholme School: For over 50 years -- The Glenholme School, part of Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, has provided a comprehensive residential program and services for children with learning differences and special needs. Located in picturesque Washington, CT the Teacher will be part of a cohesive, passionate and dynamic team. The selected candidate will foster Devereux’s mission and values of quality care as well as providing top-notch and individualized therapeutic care for our students.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate a student-centered approach to instruction

  • Participation in a reflective professional development process

  • Meet the requirements of the IEP/Treatment Plan process by contributing to a data-based present level of student performance, accommodations, modifications, transitional elements, and other pertinent information based on the student’s needs

  • Integrate multi-modality instructional approaches in lesson planning and delivery to meet the diverse learning styles of students

  • Prioritize and promote a safe and secure environment for student learning through the use of social-emotional learning

  • Collaborate with Teaching Assistants, Occupational/Speech Therapists, Social Workers, Nursing, Behavior Specialists and school leaders regarding student and teacher supports

  • Implement PBIS campus approaches (5:1 praise to corrective feedback ratio, focusing on skill development) with a high level of fidelity

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required (Master's preferred)

  • Connecticut Teaching certificate or eligibility to obtain a teaching certificate

  • 3 years of experience within the field of education preferred

  • Special education degree and experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Tasks

○ Develops lesson plans and manages the learning experiences for students to ensure the needs of the groups and individual students are met.

○ Assists students toward self-directed learning and normalization.

○ Maintains a neat, well-organized, and attractive prepared environment consistent with Montessori pedagogy.

○ Participates in professional activities designated by the Head of School, which may include workshops, curriculum retreats, meetings, grade reporting, planning, and other professional pursuits.

○ Attends all pre-announced staff meetings, professional sessions and parent meetings.

○ Works to develop close and effective relationships with parents, including opportunities to discuss and understand the child’s progress; encourages them to bond with both the class and the larger school community; provides individualized tracking of student progress.

○ Participates in the admissions process, speaking from time to time with prospective families--at the request of the Principal of the school.

○ Follows the school’s policies and procedures for student evaluation and record keeping, meeting all due dates as required; includes the administration of standardized tests (if applicable).

○ Assesses the needs of the class and prepares requests for materials, furnishings, and framework of the budgeting process; updates inventory list and submits to appropriate management.

○ Other job duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

○ Bachelor’s Degree in E.C.E.

○ Montessori Certificate preferred

Physical Requirements

○ Ability to lift 25-35 lbs.

○ Ability to walk, kneel, sit, and stand for long periods.
