Job Description SummaryThe Research & Development (R&D) Director is responsible for leading the development of new products and improving all aspects of quality manufacturing process of confectionary products in all See's manufacturing locations. Leads effective teams in Los Angeles and San Francisco facilities that work cross functionally with Operations and Engineering to develop new confections, improve product, and process and troubleshoot quality issues. The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $205k to $229k per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Job Description Key Responsibilities- Develops new products and leads a team that development new products. This includes developing bench top samples in the R&D lab and scaling approved bench top samples to the manufacturing floor. This includes supporting development of nutritional labels for newly developed products, as needed.
- Evaluates new processing equipment and new processes in both LA and SF to ensure product performs to See's established specifications for flavor, appearance, texture and color throughout its shelf life.
- Monitors and leads a team that monitors production of candy to ensure candy flavor, appearance, and texture produced meets expectations.
- Plays key role in investigating all quality problems with the candy in equipment, processes, ingredients, and formula compliance. Analyzes rejected or scrapped product; works with FSQA and Operations teams to trend collected data and determine root cause. Identifies opportunities for product/process improvement and cost reduction.
- Trains and develops people at all levels (from shop floor to management) on manufacturing confections skills.
- Ensures change management and process improvement as the Food Safety and Process Improvement Champion.
- Integrally involved in waste reduction as part of process improvement. Reduces waste caused by poor production situations, or generated during the course of making candy. Also looks for usage opportunities of high-quality ingredients that are deemed unusable for other reasons (splits on nuts, pieces instead of halves, leftover raw materials from special items, etc.)
- Ensures there are written, detailed finished product specifications for shop floor in all manufacturing plants to support consistency in product quality and performance. Also generates specs for company-wide use.
- Responsible for ensuring effective and accurate maintenance of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) manufacturing recipes.
- Evaluates raw materials from new suppliers to ensure consistency with the spec for each piece; participates in qualifying/review of new suppliers for ongoing supply.
- Part of the sensory group that tastes produced product and ingredients to ensure consistency with Company expectations.
- Establishes/confirms shelf life of ingredients, intermediate/work in progress (WIP) products and finished goods through structured studies and tests, including sensory evaluation. Communicates progress to all departments associated with projects in writing and/or in person, as situation dictates.
- Assists in new process development as assigned.
- Supports FSQA in the assessment of raw material quality as the resident technical expert of our products and process. Works with Process Development, Operations, and FSQA on improving machinability of existing products and/or raw material performance.
- Improves and maintains written product formulas. Audits current product formulas and revises them as needed to ensure they are adequately detailed to yield consistency in manufacturing steps and product quality.
- Develops and maintains ingredient specifications in collaboration with FSQA, Procurement and Suppliers.
- Pulls random samples of product from local shops and leads "product-cutting" with FSQA and Operations, to evaluate the quality of products that have gone through warehousing and distribution processes.
- Participates with FSQA in evaluating packs pulled from inventory (warehouses) at start, mid-point and end of shelf life to ensure product is performing as expected through shelf life.
- Maintains timely and accurate records of all product/process improvement activities and supplier visits. Generates monthly status report of improvements accomplished.
- Attends and participates in the daily Operational meeting in LA and SF (as needed), plus other designated meetings on an as-needed basis.
- This leader's success will come from people and process; developing positive working relationships and using a collaborative approach will ensure overall success.
- Completes other duties and special projects as requested by management.
- Responsible for identifying opportunities to enhance technology and innovation that will improve departmental effectiveness.

Responsibilities
- Conceive, plan, and develop new technologies with potential for Operation &Maintenance savings at NYPA's generating (hydro and fossil) plants and transmission facilities, including recommendations for implementing such technologies and projects to senior management.
- Implement new technologies at NYPA's generating (hydro and fossil) plants and transmission facilities. Track and study new technologies with potential for O&M savings and bring these technologies in house for testing and/or implementation at NYPA.

- Coordinate technology transfer and implementation across interdepartmental boundaries, and prepare reports and technical papers for dissemination inside and outside of NYPA.

Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Program Director, Research Development and Training for the Office of Academic Affairs with the School of Public Health, located in Piscataway, NJ. The Program Director, Research Development and Training provides strategic leadership to enhance the School of Public Healths research capacity through targeted development initiatives, faculty training, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Supporting both the Assistant Dean for Research and the Vice-Dean, this role works closely with school and university leadership to identify research priorities, support faculty and trainee success, and strengthen the infrastructure needed to secure and manage extramural funding and will advance initiatives that promote excellence, equity, and impact in public health research.

About The Department
The Climate Systems Engineering initiative (CSEi) is a new University-wide research initiative anchored in the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Growth. This initiative addresses the science, technology, and public policy of technologies that can reduce or reverse the harms from accumulated greenhouse gasses, including open-systems carbon removal, solar geoengineering, and local interventions to slow the melting of glaciers. CSEi conducts research across fields such as engineering, physical and biological sciences, and the social sciences, as well as humanistic approaches to behavioral science and ethics. The initiative brings together a multi-disciplinary and highly collaborative group of faculty and researchers and will leverage the global network and presence of the University of Chicago with key partnerships across the world.
Job Summary
The Climate Systems Engineering initiative seeks a highly experienced Director of Research Development and Senior Research Scientist to provide technical and intellectual leadership to the suite of CSEi research activities across its focal areas of open-systems carbon removal, sunlight reflection methods and local interventions to prevent glacial melting. The Research Director will be part of CSEis leadership team, and will work closely with the Executive Director and founding Faculty Director David Keith, as well as collaborate with other faculty members to provide direction for, and ensure the rigor and quality of, CSEis portfolio of research projects. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position leads a team of engineers and researchers to deliver on CSEis research priorities and maximize collective impact. The role will also conduct applied research related to CSEi focal areas and its own area of expertise, working to write articles, reports and manuscripts, and presenting research findings at meetings and/or conferences.

Manages engineers and research staff and is accountable for their performance and results, developing plans for the team, guided by resource availability and CSEi objectives.
- Provides mentoring and support for students interested in applied research in climate systems engineering.
- Supports CSEi faculty and leadership in developing long-term funding relationships.
- Collaborates with the communications team to disseminate research findings for public audiences and to reports to donors.
- Builds collaborations with Argonne National Lab, including helping Argonne raise funds for climate engineering work.
- Builds collaborations with the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering, around projects such as developing an engineering management curriculum.
- Improves the environment for applied research at UChicago.
- Works with external stakeholders in the climate engineering world to advance the field.
- Ensures compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates.

- Support internal stakeholders as needed in providing responses to scientific inquiries from internal staff and/or affiliate partners with regard to ingredients, technologies, claims, clinical profiles, mechanisms of action and similar scientific requests.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Ideal candidates should possess a Masters of PhD in chemistry, biology, or a related scientific discipline. Bachelors degree candidates will also be considered.
- The lead candidate must have a proven ability to innovate and manage multiple, complex R&D processes. Proven success developing multiple tech nology platforms , including licensing external technologies.
- A minimum of 10 years of related hands-on formulation experience with Cosmetic and OTC class skincare and haircare products with a p roven track record of success in commercializing said products preferably within both mass-market and prestige market segments.
- Well versed in claim substantiation as well as clinical and pre-clinical testing models and methods .
- A leader in training, mentoring and developing scientific staff to levels of elevated performance.
- Highly effective organizational planning skills and project management of multiple projects/products is required.

Salary Range: $160,000 - $200,000
The pay range represents the low and high end of the salary range we reasonably expect to pay for this position at the time of posting.
