Education/experience:

  • Programming Experience: Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Python, PySpark, Databricks, T-SQL, or other scripting skills.

Compensation

The overall salary range for this role is $54,900 - $02,120. For candidates residing in:

  • Alaska, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, or the District of Columbia the salary range is 60,390 - 93,610.
  • New York City, Newark, San Jose, or San Francisco the salary range is 65,880 - 102,120.
  • All other locations the salary range is 54,900 - 85,100.

A combination of factors will be considered, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, etc.

Position Overview: Norstella Real World Data (RWD) is on the lookout for a talented NLP Data Scientist specializing in Language Models, with a clinical background, to join our AI & Life Sciences Solutions team. Your skills in processing natural language data and understanding Electronic Health Records (EHR) and laboratory reports will be crucial in driving our data science projects and innovations aimed at enhancing RWD-driven drug development in the pharmaceutical sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leverage NLP techniques and open-source Large Language Models (LLM) like LLama2, Mixtral, Qwen, and BERT to extract and interpret unstructured medical data from EHRs, medical notes, and lab reports.
  • Collaborate with clinical scientists and data specialists to create effective NLP models in the healthcare domain, integrating both technical and medical perspectives.
  • Perform data cleaning, preprocessing, and validation to ensure the accuracy of insights from NLP processes.
  • Present data findings clearly to stakeholders, demonstrating strong communication abilities.

Qualifications:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Computer Science, Data Science, Computational Linguistics, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience handling and interpreting EHRs and laboratory test results.
  • Minimum of 2 years in NLP with expertise in techniques such as Named Entity Recognition (NER), text summarization, and topic modeling applied in healthcare.
  • Expertise with open-source Large Language Models (LLama2/3, Mixtral, etc.), including prompt engineering and fine-tuning (at least 1 year).
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience in NLP libraries like NLTK, spaCy, and Hugging Face Transformers, as well as deep learning tools such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.
