Job Description: Investment Analyst

Pathway Capital Management is seeking an Investment Analyst to join their team in Irvine, offering a hybrid work format. The Analyst will play a key role in analyzing potential investment opportunities and monitoring client portfolios. This involves working closely with senior and mid-level professionals on small client and due diligence teams.

Responsibilities:

Fund Investment Analysis: Conducting quantitative and qualitative reviews of potential private markets fund investments.
Direct Investment Underwriting: Supporting the in-depth underwriting of direct equity, direct credit, and secondary investments, which is characterized as a fast-paced process.
Due Diligence: Performing analysis to support the due diligence process. This includes analyzing financial statements of private markets partnerships, reviewing portfolio company valuations, and assessing relative performance.
Fund Manager Interaction: Participating in meetings with fund managers.
Client Servicing: Supporting Pathways client servicing efforts through the preparation of client reports and presentations.
Ad Hoc Projects: Assisting with special reporting, research, and due diligence projects as needed.

Requirements:

Relevant Experience: Analytical experience from investment banking, consulting, audit, investment management, or similar fields (including internships).
Education: A bachelors degree in business, finance, economics, business economics, or a related field with a strong academic record.
Investment Interest: A strong interest in investments and capital markets.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; strong quantitative and analytical skills.
Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills; ability and desire to work collaboratively; detail-oriented, proactive, resourceful, and self-motivated; capable of managing multiple tasks and deliverables.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range is $85,000 to $95,000 annually, with two discretionary bonuses per year and a comprehensive benefits package. Under the direction of the Director, Investment Strategies, the Investment Analyst performs analytical tasks on behalf of the enterprise investment portfolios and assists in analyzing investment managers and portfolios. Assists in the administration and analysis of investment portfolios managed by external investment managers. Develops and maintains the investment risk management-monitoring program, analyzes investment manager strategy and portfolio results, assists in the ongoing monitoring of managers, and performs asset allocation studies while is also the primary party responsible for data collection, management and analysis for the total portfolio, underlying investment managers, and general market research.

1. Assists in monitoring external public and private asset managers for investment performance, attribution, risk and opportunity set research; statistically compare investment managers on various metrics.
2. Assists in the research and analytics for quarterly Investment Strategies performance reports and prepares materials for monthly Investment Board meetings.
3. Helps prepare for (research, analysis) and participates in quarterly calls with current and prospective investment managers.
4. Assists in monitoring capital markets, creates asset class and market dashboards, and maintains knowledge of current market trends and practices.
5. Assist the CIO, Director, and/or Principal of Investments with research and analytical projects.
6. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

• Bachelor's degree is required prior to starting this position but is not required at the time of application.
• Minimum of one (1) year assisting in the administration and management of an institutional investment portfolio is preferred.
• Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.

• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft's Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) is required.
• Strong understanding of quantitative techniques including strong attention to detail and low tolerance for errors is required.
• Ability to work proactively in a time-sensitive environment and handle confidential material is required.
• Strong ability to learn and efficiently use web-based research systems (such as Bloomberg, Morningstar) are preferred.
• Familiarity with basic financial calculations and statistical concepts, as well as a working understanding of financial statements is preferred.
• Demonstrated interest in investing and global markets, economics, and investment management.
• Strong analytical mindset with foundational understanding of economic, accounting, and corporate finance theories.
• Strong research and problem-solving skills are essential.
• Strong demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

• At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
• Enrollment in a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) program is preferred.

P osition Overview

Job Description: We are currently seeking a candidate to fill the position of Investment Analyst in our Los Angeles office. The ideal candidate will have the analytical skills to accurately underwrite prospective multifamily investments throughout the Los Angeles-Ventura-San Diego-Orange County-Inland Empire markets, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Additionally, strong interpersonal abilities are needed to interface with brokers, owners, and internal executives. This position is best suited for candidates with long-term aspirations of becoming an Investment Officer with sourcing responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities & Duties:

• Create and prepare valuations for potential acquisitions utilizing Microsoft Excel, using our internal models to incorporate market data and property operating history into each valuation
• Research and analyze numerous submarkets, both from the desk and "in the field," to gain intimate knowledge of targeted opportunities
• Track rent, sales, and new development activities in each of the submarkets
• Conduct and coordinate due diligence activities involving the audit of leases and financial operations, analysis of market competitors, synthesis of third-party reports, assessment of physical deficiencies, and renovation opportunities
• Prepare and present materials to PUI's Investment Committee
• Participate in various analytical projects as required in the Investments Department
• Some travel within the Southern California area will be required
• May perform other duties as needed

• Bachelor's degree required
• 1 - 2 years of relevant experience and sound fundamental knowledge of financial analysis; experience with real estate valuations is a plus
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel required, as well as proficiency with MS Word & PowerPoint
