What does a Greenhouse Worker do?

As a Greenhouse Worker, you will jump right into the action! Your daily tasks will include, but are not limited to, standing at a conveyor belt planting plants, hand-watering plants, loading plants onto carts at a fast pace to fulfill customer orders, moving and spacing plants for optimal growing, cleaning carts, sweeping, and a vast array of cleaning and organizational projects around the greenhouse.

Our hours of operation are 7:30am-4:00pm, Monday through Friday with hours extending to 5:00pm when the need arises. The opportunity for adding weekend hours and extending your daily hours is available as peak season arrives. Summary of Position:

The Greenhouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing production area (board washer through pulling boards off the pond), directs leads and ensures tasks are done properly. The Greenhouse Supervisor will motivate and lead their team to execute daily and weekly goals.

Salary Range: $65,000-$70,000 + variable compensation based on achieved goal objectives

About Us: Colonial Gardens, located in Blue Springs, MO, was added to our brand family in 2016. Founded in 1969, renovations began in 2017 to create an agritourism destination. It is the garden center, reimagined! We offer a greenhouse, nursery, caf and coffee shop, event space, and farmer's market. It's where plants, food and farms connect. Educational classes promoting local agriculture and sustainability as well as private events are also offered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Lead, manage, and hold accountable the site team to ensure the successful execution of operational plans and goals. Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes open communication, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Budget/P&L: Accountable for the department's Profit & Loss (P&L) performance by managing the budget, tracking expenses, and ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Greenhouse Management: Oversee all facets of greenhouse operations, including monitoring plant health, facility maintenance, and key performance metrics.
  • Inventory Management: Manage inventory by tracking stock levels, forecast needs, and optimize product availability to minimize waste.
  • Safe Workplace: Promote and maintain a safe work environment and ensure staff training on safety protocols.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Hold regular team meetings to discuss performance, goals, and challenges
  • Analyze market trends to inform inventory decisions and boost sales
  • Procure products based on demand and market analysis, implement production plans annually for onsite growing
  • Monitor sales metrics and ensure Revenue and Gross Margin, including Shrink, targets are met
  • Conduct regular budget analysis to uncover cost-saving opportunities
  • Implement effective product placement strategies and signage
  • Collaborate with Marketing to enhance promotional efforts and campaigns
  • Maintain the Greenhouse facility, plant health measures, and ensure safe working conditions
  • Lead cross-departmental collaboration for seamless operations
  • Travel to trade shows and events as required
  • Other job duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Business Management, or a related field
  • 5+ years of equivalent experience in greenhouse management or related fields, landscaping, garden centers, and nurseries
  • Strong computer skills, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with inventory systems

Job Description
The Greenhouse Technician will be responsible for daily plant care activities in a greenhouse setting. This includes tasks such as seeding, pollinating, transplanting, watering, harvesting, and handling seeds for crops like corn, soybean, wheat, and others. Additionally, the role involves collecting plant tissue samples for laboratory analysis while maintaining sample identity and storage conditions.
Responsibilities
+ Perform daily care for greenhouse plants, including seeding, pollinating, transplanting, watering, and harvesting.
+ Handle seeds for various crops such as corn, soybean, and wheat.
+ Collect and store small samples of plant tissue, ensuring accurate delivery for laboratory analysis.
+ Maintain the identity of thousands of samples while ensuring proper storage conditions.
+ Assist with experimental activities, including data collection and record maintenance.
+ Conduct routine greenhouse sanitation tasks, such as discarding regulated materials, cleaning pots and containers, and sanitizing rooms.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ High School Diploma or GED required.
+ Preferred candidates will have an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Plant Genetics, or Agronomy.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
