Kelly Government Solutions is hiring for an HVAC mechanic - maintenance on a government contract with our customer in Menlo Park, CA.
**Position overview:**
SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory's (SLAC) Facilities and Operations (F&O) Division manages one of the world's premier science facilities on a 400-acre Stanford site with 150+ structures comprised of office and research facilities for the Department of Energy. We are a dynamic service organization committed to the support and success of the Laboratory's Scientific Mission by providing safe and responsive engineering, construction, operations and maintenance of equipment, buildings, and infrastructure.
We are seeking an HVAC Mechanic with a background in HVAC equipment and control systems including install, troubleshoot, repair, and modify heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment and systems, with strict adherence to site-specific safety requirements as well as work planning and control (WPC) protocols for shop, field, or experimental areas.
**Your specific responsibilities include:**
+ Under the direction of a lead or supervisor perform skilled heating, ventilating, and air conditioning work.
+ Install, inspect, repair, maintain, and modify various heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in office buildings, auditoriums, residential buildings, and research facilities.
+ Perform routine troubleshooting of various heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems; repair and restore them to proper operational service.
+ Assist in installation, maintenance and modification of complex instrumentation and controls for HVAC systems; work independently to adjust, replace and maintain standard controls.
+ Perform electrical work (through 480V) as required for maintaining and repairing HVAC systems. Work includes replacing fuses, motors, transformers, wiring, contactors, controls, and disconnect switches, etc.
+ Connect and disconnect pipelines and fittings and perform plumbing work pertaining to HVAC (such as cutting, soldering, brazing, connecting and disconnecting pipelines, and replacing fittings and valves)
+ Perform preventative and predictive maintenance services as directed by Supervisor or Lead Mechanic.
+ Maintain records and assist in procurement of components and spare parts.
+ Adhere to safety rules.

**To be successful in this position you will bring:**
+ Journey level knowledge equivalent to four (4) years or completion in an apprentice program as a journey mechanics, with a minimum four (4) years' actual work experience in the trade or a combination of equivalent education and work experience.
+ Must have working, knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
+ Must be skilled in the use of tools, materials and equipment of the heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning trade.
+ Must be able to read blueprints, and work from prints and sketches.
+ Must work in compliance with building codes and industry standards, and in compliance with various safety standards.
+ May be required to have the ability to obtain and maintain a California Non- commercial Class license.
**Certificates and Licenses Required:**
+ Valid California Non-commercial Class C Driver's license.
+ EPA or Universal Technician certification strongly preferred

The HVAC Maintenance Mechanic will perform preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment to ensure the safety and reliability of critical mechanical systems. The location is at our West Jefferson campus to support Battelle's contract research laboratories and operations.
**Responsibilities**
+ Monitors equipment to ensure the operation is within specified parameters, especially to meet the requirements of conducting project work for clients; makes adjustments and repairs as necessary; conducts necessary tests and inspects system equipment and components to detect actual and potential mechanical problems that would affect project work, and takes corrective action
+ Maintains an adequate inventory of spare parts to keep systems running smoothly with minimum downtime

+ Develops and maintains an effective preventive maintenance program using the site's computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
+ Coordinates with other facility's staff and contractor's staff to accomplish work on new/renovated labs

+ Follows recognized procedures/techniques and applies knowledge of regulatory codes; ensures compliance with applicable Battelle guidelines as well as national, state, and local regulations and requirements
**Key Qualifications**
+ High School diploma with 5 years of HVAC/mechanical-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Must have demonstrated knowledge of Commercial heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems, regulatory codes and requirements, as well as related pneumatic and electrical control systems
+ Must possess the physical ability to perform manual labor, including work outdoors in inclement weather
+ Ability to respond to emergency calls during non-business hours. May be required to work overtime for activities related to HVAC, shutdowns, repairs, and emergency situations
+ Must a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a government secret clearance
**Preferred Qualifications**

**Primary Duties and Responsibilities**
+ Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of mechanical equipment such as HVAC equipment, laboratory equipment and electrical drive motors; change oil, grease, change or clean filters, valves, actuators, drive belts, sprockets, shafts and bearings to ensure proper operation
+ Perform troubleshooting, testing, adjustments, repair, installation and operation of HVAC systems in buildings.This includes air terminal units, mixing boxes, valves, dampers, actuators, thermostats, sensors, manometers and filters
+ Drive service vehicles to transport tools and materials to job sites
+ Operate hand and power tools in a skilled manner; fabricate material and equipment in workshops
+ Remodel and construct facilities in accordance with project requirements; assist in the preparation of engineering data under the direction of an engineer
+ Develop preliminary cost estimates for installations and repairs
+ Create material order lists, inventory and stage material for installation
+ Suggest operation and maintenance strategies for campus HVAC systems to ensure continuous and reliable service

Pay: $27.61 - $1.41 / hour. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience
Summary:
Maintains, tests, repairs, and modifies heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and related temperature controls and equipment.
Responsibilities:
Provides maintenance support to air handling units, exhaust systems, VAVs, BAS, and chilled water systems. Maintains specified pressures, temperatures, and humidity.
Inspects equipment for malfunctions. Makes adjustments and/or repairs. Recommends modifications, replacements, repairs, and necessary procedures.
Performs routine preventative maintenance according to established schedules. Maintains preventive maintenance records and equipment repair files in order to comply with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
Assists in construction, remodeling, and maintenance projects. Provides information on critical mechanical and electrical equipment and systems. Conducts and supervises airflow and balancing tests required for accreditation reports and for the infection control program.
Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

- High School diploma or GED. Preferred: Trade specific education.
- Completion of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved HVAC technician certification program. Additional certification as required by local municipality as determined at position level. Relevant licensure/certification as determined at position level.
- 3 years of related experience. 1 year of direct experience.
