Role Summary

You will be a key member of the Perception team at Rivian, which develops advanced machine learning
algorithms that directly impact safety critical self-driving features of our category defining vehicles.

Responsibilities

In this role you will be responsible for design, implementation and maintenance of machine learning
components across a variety of tasks related to autonomy. This includes everything from working on
the model to how we train and test it in the cloud.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Developing technical strategy and architecture for foundation models as unified world models
  • Developing multi-modal, multi-task transformer-based systems that support closed-loop autonomy
  • Building training and evaluation pipelines at scale across petabytes of real-world and simulated driving data
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams across perception, planning, simulation, and ML infrastructure
  • Driving alignment between model capabilities and real-world deployment constraints (latency, robustness, validation)
  • Publishing internal technical guidance and mentoring engineers across autonomy ML
Qualifications
  • B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, or a related field
  • 3+ years related industry or research experience
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and language experience in C++ and Python
  • Broad understanding of modern Perception systems and their architectures
  • Experience in several of the following areas:
    • Software for real-time safety-critical systems
    • Software engineering for robotics or perception applications
    • Machine learning model training, machine learning infrastructure, and associated tools
    • Writing performant, real-time software
    • Parallel Programming and working with hardware accelerators
    • Cloud computing and large-scale data processing
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced development environment

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range for California Based Applicants: $184,000.00 - $264,000.00 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

About the Role

As a machine learning engineer, you will help develop tailored user experiences using advanced LLMs, Knowledge Graphs, personalization, and predictive analysis. DESCRIPTION

The CW3E machine learning team is recruiting a scientist to work on the development of artificial intelligence (AI) data-driven weather prediction models. The successful candidate will apply their background and expertise in computational science to develop, support, and execute projects of broad scope and complexity that addresses CW3E's objectives, with a focus on modeling, analyzing, and predicting extreme weather and water events.

The position will contribute directly to ongoing developments at CW3E in the domain of AI weather modeling and prediction, including novel architecture and ensemble design. May also develop innovative deep learning-based post-processing methods for quantitative precipitation forecasting (QPF) as well as forecasting other relevant variables, e.g., temperature, integrated water vapor transport (IVT) for the benefit of water management.

Communicates research findings through peer-reviewed journal publications, conference presentations, technical reports, and other publications, as needed. May give technical presentations to associated research and technology groups and management, and represent the organization at national and international meetings, conferences, and committees. Supports proposal development and contributes to ongoing efforts on the strategic growth of computing platforms and improvement of data management procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

About the Role
