As a Meter Reader, you'll join a collaborative team ensuring that our clients can deliver their services - uninterrupted. Based in The Villages, FL, you'll have the opportunity to perform a variety of tasks in the reading and maintenance of water meters. You'll contribute to the success of our program with efficient preventive maintenance and effective solutions to complex challenges that may arise in municipal facilities. You'll read meters and record readings on an assigned route; ensure meters are functioning properly; report defective meters and meter skip; and interpret and explain readings to customers. You'll also repair leaks and broken lines; turn meters on and off, install or assist with installation of meters and boxes; and perform other duties as required. Most importantly, you'll take action to ensure the safety, health and well-being of you and your team.
Qualifications - External

The Meter Reader is responsible for a variety of duties including reading residential and commercial meters, rereads, and delivering red tags.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accurately reads and records commercial and residential water meters for billing purposes.
- Checks and reports inoperable meters, damaged or missing meter boxes, and missing lids.
- Reports leaks, sink holes, or damage to any district facilities.
- Performs meter re-reads and other activities associated with the contract (e.g. connects/disconnects of water service, door tag notification).

The purpose of this position is to read water meters for billing purposes, deliver door hangers for delinquent accounts, turn water service on or off, and to respond and investigate a broad spectrum of customer inquiries and water meter issues. Employees in this classification perform technical and manual work.
Work Environment:

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Reading water meters for billing purposes and, when directed, re-read water meters to resolve discrepancies and report inoperable or malfunctioning devices to the water and sewer utility crew.
• Providing water and sewer customer service, assisting customers with billing related inquiries, service questions and client concerns.
• Using the appropriate device, address questionable consumption of water such as leaking systems and inoperable or defective meters.
• Providing leak data analysis and tracks cases until resolved.
• Manipulating and analyzing billing software data to create custom monthly reports in Excel.
• Conducting logistical processing of service orders. Turning service on and off at meters, reading meters for new and canceled services.
• Assisting in the delinquency process by delivering late notices and performing service cut-offs for non-payments, restoring service once arrangements for payment have been made.
• Assisting water crews in locating meters.
• Performing office support duties.
• Assisting with the town’s water and sewer customer service counter as required.
Requirements:
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 1 year of experience in customer service/public contact position(s) by phone, email or in-person.
• One year of experience working with ERP modules related to meter reading operations.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable record.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of water utility customer service duties, including reading water meters and recording consumption and identifying water meter equipment problems.
