The CNM will provide full-scope midwifery care, including prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and gynecologic services. + Provides referrals to other health professionals and community agencies, as needed.
+ Initiates selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures (including non-stress testing and biophysical profiles), consultation, and laboratory examinations, as needed.
+ Provides maximum continuity of care for patients and families transitioning throughout the phases of antepartal, labor, delivery, post-partal, family planning-intercontraceptional care periods.
+ Responsible for the management of the medically uncomplicated and low-risk patient throughout the maternity cycle.
+ Follows progress of pregnancy in the office and labor of all patients in labor and delivery suite within the scope of midwifery practice.
+ May assume management of labor and delivery of the medically, uncomplicated low risk patient, including management of frequently encountered problems with medically approved orders mutually agreed upon by both physician and midwife.

The Certified Nurse Midwife provides exceptional direct diagnostic and therapeutic care to women throughout the life cycle in the nurse midwifery model of care in both the office setting and labor and birth. The CNM works in collaboration with the attending physician as part of a multidisciplinary team. Cultivates a patient centric environment which focuses on the whole individual inclusive of physical, psychosocial, spiritual and functional needs of the patient, family and significant others. Serves as the focal professional for the continuity of care in patient care within scope of practice standards, as well as specialty specific standards to address and resolve problems that may arise.

Qualifications:
Registered nurse licensure; Certified Nurse Midwife license; requires both undergraduate and master's degree; Electronic Fetal Monitoring certification required; Assisted surgeries certification (must be obtained within 6 months of employment), BLS certification required.
Experience: Preferred One (1) to two (2) years midwifery experience in culturally diverse setting.
Responsibilities
- 1. Clinical Care
- 1.1 The CNM provides full scope midwifery care as outlined in the Core Competencies for Basic Midwifery practice developed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives in outpatient and inpatient settings.
- 2. Patient Education & Psychosocial Support
- 2.1 The CNM will educate patient/families on care and recommended or available resources. In collaboration with the collaborating MD, this may be inclusive of admitting, instructions, treatment plan, actual and potential side effects of treatment/medications and discharge plans.
- 3. Information Management
- 3.1 The CNM ensures appropriate documentation within the accordance of hospital and regulatory requirements and protects information of all forms, whether computer-based, paper, film, voice, or other media from unauthorized access modification, destruction, or intentional or accidental disclosure.
- 4. Quality Management
- 4.1 The CNM is expected to demonstrate a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care
- 5. Staff Education
- 5.1 The CNM serves as a clinical resource for new resident staff and may provide service specific orientation pertinent to clinical evaluation
- 6. Professional Development
- 6.1 Maintain certification through the American Midwifery Certification Board
EDUCATION
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Midwifery program-Certificate, Masters or Doctoral Program
EXPERIENCE
One to Two years of experience as a CNM or equivalent combined training and experience APRNs, PAs, CRNAs and CNMs are required to be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS Hospital and credentialed through the Medical Staff process. Evidence of current competence to practice as {an APRN, PA, CRNA, CNM} via appropriate reference letters from physicians and other practitioners must be able to be obtained during the Medical Staff appointment process in order to be eligible.
