Job Description
Provides a full range of direct and collaborative obstetrical and gynecological health care services for women in a variety of clinical settings. Utilizes advanced clinical knowledge and expertise to provide ongoing physical and emotional care, support, education, and counseling to women and their families transitioning throughout the childbearing cycle inclusive of, family planning services, preconception care, care during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum period, as well as care to normal newborns during the first 28 days of life.
Job Responsibility
+ Conducts complete history and physical examinations/health assessments of patients and families with real or potential, acute, and/or chronic health problems in the outpatient setting.
+ Provides referrals to other health professionals and community agencies, as needed.
+ Initiates selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures (including non-stress testing and biophysical profiles), consultation, and laboratory examinations, as needed.
+ Provides maximum continuity of care for patients and families transitioning throughout the phases of antepartal, labor, delivery, post-partal, family planning-intercontraceptional care periods.
+ Responsible for the management of the medically uncomplicated and low-risk patient throughout the maternity cycle.
+ Follows progress of pregnancy in the office and labor of all patients in labor and delivery suite within the scope of midwifery practice.
+ May assume management of labor and delivery of the medically, uncomplicated low risk patient, including management of frequently encountered problems with medically approved orders mutually agreed upon by both physician and midwife.
+ Makes daily rounds on routine postpartum floors independently.
+ Examines patients.
+ Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Duties not mentioned here, but considered related are not essential functions.
Job Qualification
+ Bachelor's Degree from accredited college/ university with successful completion of specific science courses AND Master's Degree in Midwifery from an accredited midwifery educational program, required.
+ Current license to practice as a Midwife in the State of New York, required.
+ American Midwifery Board Certification, required.
+ Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification, required.
+ Has a collaborative practice agreement with a physician and designated protocols, both filed with New York State Department of Education.

$0.00 - $0.00 The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) is a nurse who, through clinical experience, study and supervised practice in patient care at the master's or doctoral level, has gained expertise in a specific specialty area of patient care services. The CNM demonstrates the advanced knowledge, skills, and credentialing required to function in advanced practice and expanded specialty nursing. The CNM has the responsibility and accountability for the assessment and management of patients, including ordering diagnostic tests, consultations, therapeutic interventions and the day-today implementation and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care. As an advanced practitioner, the CNM is essential to the case management of patients with specialized health needs. The CNM works in collaboration with the attending physician, primary nurse and other health care providers to provide family centered care. The CNM is responsible and accountable for the development and application of specialty practice standards, and research to enhance the quality of care to the patient and the patient's family.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of anatomy, principles or theories of neurology, microbiology, physiology, psychology, human disabilities, pharmacology, gerontology, human growth and development, human developmental disease, and medical terminology as appropriate in the care setting and as appropriate for level of medical licensure.
  • Conduct patient assessments and complete physical examinations, collect clinical data including vital signs, collecting specimens, prepare patients for tests, therapy, or treatments, order and interpret medical laboratory test results, diagnose medical condition of patient, administer medications or treatments and perform minor surgery.
  • Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities, This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive healthcare measures.
  • Complete accurate patient coding for effective billing, maintain accurate and detailed patient medical reports, and maintain inventory of medical supplies and instruments,
  • Serve as a resource and team leader during clinical shifts to ensure the smooth flow of patient processing, treatment and discharge including patient triaging.
  • Act as a mentor to new staff.


Qualifications

  • Master's Degree of an accredited Midwifery program - required
  • 4-6 years of related experience - required
  • Able to quickly master all aspects of a computerized medical recordkeeping and billing system.
  • Must project a professional image and earn the confidence of others.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills,
  • Must be HIPAA compliant at all times.
  • CNM - Certified Nurse Midwife Upon Hire - required
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Upon Hire - required
  • ATLS - Advanced Trauma Life Support Upon Hire - required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire - required

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
