Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
As a Senior Fiber Process Engineer, you will play a crucial role in our Avionics development lab. Your primary responsibilities will include building and testing complex fiber optics assemblies, opto-mechanical assemblies, lasers, and amplifiers. You will be tasked with providing innovative improvement strategies for our existing manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency and quality.
A key aspect of your role will be supporting the development, prototyping, and failure investigations of fiber optics and opto-mechanical devices. You will also participate in test campaigns of optics and optoelectronics systems, ensuring they meet rigorous performance standards.
Additionally, you will be responsible for setting up and maintaining high-quality, high-efficiency assembly lines within our laboratory environment. Your expertise in optimizing processes and workflows will be invaluable in driving continuous improvement across our operations.

Key job responsibilities
Build and test complex fiber optics assemblies, opto-mechanical assemblies, lasers, and amplifiers.

A day in the life
This lab engineer will be a member of the Inter satellite Link (ISL) team with responsibilities of improving the manufacturing processes and methods necessary to reduce build time and increase throughput. In this role you will work in close contact with the design engineers, building and qualifying new designs, while supporting other activities as such as system test campaigns or manufacturing line troubleshooting and process improvements.
About the team
This lab engineer will have the opportunity to be a member of the Hardware Engineering team within the wider ISL team. This highly collaborative group of engineers has a diverse range of backgrounds and knowledge and is looking for help to build a scalable and reliable optical subassembly to power the next generation of for inter-satellite communications.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
- Engineering degree in optics, photonics, physics, or Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years working in engineering/scientific laboratory
- 5+ years' experience in fiber optics process development or manufacturing, including stripping, cleaving, splicing and recoating
- 5+ years' experience testing optical systems (free space, fiber optics, lasers)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- 10+ years working in engineering/scientific laboratory
- 10+ years' experience in fiber optics process development or manufacturing, including stripping, cleaving, splicing and recoating
- Experience with optical measurement on high precision optical components and systems, such as interferometry, transmission and reflectivity, laser beam characterization etc.
- Experience running HALT and HASS test campaigns
- Experience in troubleshooting and servicing optical, electrical or mechanical equipment
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: thermal management, manufacturing automation, test automation, mechanical design, Python scripts.
- Strong Mathematical/Statistical/Physics fundamentals.
- Strong operational and organizational skills

Position Summary:
The Fiber Installation Technician is responsible for the installation, Wi-Fi router configuration, testing/customer acceptance of the IQ Fiber FTTH service. The Fiber Installation Technician will also respond to internet service calls, service changes and disconnects. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy interacting with customers in their home or business with equipment such as routers and ONTs. A Fiber Installation Technician must have various levels of experience with the installation and repair of fiber broadband services in indoor and outdoor settings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform assigned fiber internet installations following established codes, standards and norms for the industry.
- Resolve assigned fiber internet service tickets following established codes, standards and norms for the industry.
- Use problem-solving skills to properly set up initial Wi-Fi network or to diagnose and resolve technical hardware and software issues involving internet and Wi-Fi connectivity.
- Travel to the job site and arrive on time, in professional attire commensurate with the assigned work, with all safety gear, required tools and parts.
- Contact dispatch if help in troubleshooting or completing the install is required.
- Document actions performed, quality measures/readings, resolutions, etc. in installation order or service ticket via company provided technology.
- Utilize our systems and tools to proactively check for and resolve potential issues before marking the install or service call as complete.
- Adhere to company, industry (TIA/EIA, ANSI, BICSI) and safety standards and procedures.
- Perform basic splicing and basic fiber maintenance activities. Working knowledge of GPON and related terminals and equipment.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Ability and willingness to work the scheduled and/or unscheduled overtime work assignments and after-hours callouts in all types of weather.
- Focus on meeting or exceeding individual and team objectives and key customer success metrics (Install completion, Quality, CSAT, Meantime to Resolution (MTTR), etc.).
- Interact with other teams to coordinate and disseminate information to complete job assignments and to meet Company service objectives.

**POSITION PURPOSE:**
As a Fiber Installation Technician, you will be involved in hands-on work in the field and will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fiber-optic cables and related equipment. The work performed must follow safety guidelines.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES:**
+ Install, splice, and terminate fiber-optic cables and connectors in both indoor and outdoor settings. Ensure proper routing and organization of cables to meet industry standards.
+ Conduct thorough testing and quality assurance checks to verify the functionality and performance of the installed fiber optic connections. Identify and resolve issues as needed.
+ Perform routine maintenance and repair activities on fiber-optic equipment and network infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted service. Respond to service outages promptly and restore connectivity.

+ Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC,) the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC,) the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), various state and local codes including G.O. 95 and G.O. 128, (when applicable,) and the policies and procedures for CATV installation activities.
+ Manipulates connectors, fasteners, wire and use hand tools, works in areas with exposure to moderate noise levels.
+ Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
+ Vision ability: close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus and able to manipulate objects such as pens, keyboard and mouse.
+ Normal work shift may include weekends; may include 10 hour days for 4 days a week and available to work overtime including weekends, evenings and holidays.
+ Exposure to moderate noise level, dogs or other animals, construction areas, or the public in general, may be a concern.
Education
+ Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Technician training or certification in fiber optics is a plus.

+ Previous experience in fiber optic cable installation and FTTH deployment
+ Knowledge of splicing and termination technicains
+ Familiarity with FTTH equipment and hardware

**WORKING CONDITIONS:**
