The Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning Engineer/Scientist I works within the Artificial Intelligence Operations and Services group (AIOS) in the Informatics & Analytics department of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This role provides support in machine learning, NLP, and computer vision to build reusable and scalable AI/ML tools and pipelines to support Dana-Farber operations, research, and clinical practice. The role operates in a matrixed team environment, collaborating with client-facing leads, software engineers, product managers, project managers, project sponsors, and clients. The Informatics & Analytics department serves patients, present and future, by collaboratively building a sustainable informatics and analytics ecosystem of tools and services to support and grow the Institute’s research, clinical, and business missions. The AIOS group provides services related to AI, machine learning, computer vision, NLP, production deployment, cloud infrastructure, data engineering, project management standards, and data labeling. Responsibilities- Contribute to the development, deployment, and monitoring of AI solutions, supporting scalable and efficient practices to ensure reliable telemetry tracking, model performance monitoring, and cross-platform efficiency.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining data and machine learning solutions, helping to manage models throughout their lifecycle to ensure they are well-organized, auditable, and maintain high accuracy.
- Support the creation and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines for machine learning models in cloud environments, including workflows for batch, online, streaming, and edge training/inference.
- Elicit functional requirements from end users and data science teams, utilizing methods such as user interviews, mockups, wireframes, end-to-end testing, prototypes, GUI designs, and use cases.
- Provide updates on assigned tasks and project progress to multiple groups including the AIOS team, client-facing leads, project sponsors, business owners, and internal stakeholders.
- Work effectively as part of a team, contributing to shared goals and supporting the success of projects and initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering) required; Master’s degree preferred.
- 1 year of work experience in machine learning and AI required. Relevant lab work and research projects, teaching assistantships, internships, or cooperative education programs undertaken during an advanced degree program may be considered toward qualifying work experience.
- Experience within a clinical or research environment preferred.
- Excellent communication and effective problem-solving skills.
- Track record in serving a variety of diverse customers and projects.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize, and adapt to meet the evolving needs of the Institute.
- Familiarity with Python.
- R, Databricks, and/or Snowflake experience preferred.

Scope Of PositionThe AI/ML Advanced Data Analytics Engineer will be part of a core solution development team working with domain experts, application developers, controls engineers, data engineers and data scientists. Their primary responsibility will be to design and develop solutions to automate data access, data visualization and develop machine learning models. These systems & solutions will span both cloud and on-premises environments and will require close collaboration with many technical teams to ensure success.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement AI/ML data science methodologies and AI products that align with business objectives.
- Apply data science techniques, such as machine learning, statistical modeling, and artificial intelligence to solve manufacturing and business problems.
- Collaborate with data scientists, process engineers, and controls engineers to understand and automate data operations like transformation and normalization. Design monitoring systems to ensure the models perform well.
- Generate documentation on data analytics pipelines and processes.
- Participate in advanced data analytics COPs (communities of practice) to spread knowledge and drive governance and reusability of data analytics topics.
- Leverage tools such as Databricks and AWS Datasync to manage data, build models, and deploy solutions.
- Stay abreast of the latest data science and AI/ML trends and technologies, identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering or related scientific field is preferred.
- 2-4 years of relevant technical experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, data analysis, and statistical modeling techniques.
- Demonstrated programming proficiency in Python and .NET/C#
- Understanding of big data engineering, ETL and ELT pipelines for data warehousing, on-premise and cloud data lake environments.
- Familiarity with tools such as Databricks and AWS platform services.
- Ability to communicate well with users and other technical teams to collect requirements and describe data modeling decisions.
- Continuous learning mindset and willingness to share best practices and elevate colleagues.
- Domestic travel up to 25%.
- Typically, 40 hours/week but could be more depending on project requirements.

The salary range is $83,750.00 - $115,156.00 for full-time status. Starting pay is dependent on factors including geographic location, experience, and education. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k), pension, life insurance, disability benefits, and PTO, depending on hours worked.
