Utilizes Computerized Tomography Scanners to produce cross-sectional images of patient's internal organs and tissues for diagnosis of medical issues. Responsible for following all departmental Radiation Safety and ALARA policies as well as state and federal regulations to ensure low-dose CT Imaging is an integral part of practice. Collaborates with other departments to coordinate patient work flow.
Job Specific Duties
- Demonstrates knowledge of radiation safety by utilizing dose reduction technology and monitoring to optimize patient dose. Sends dose to Dose Monitoring System upon completion of scan. li>Coordinates scheduling, transporting, and scanning of patients. Ensures inpatient patients are transported back to their units. li>Ensures correct examination is ordered. Reviews all information prior to initiating exams. li>Assists Radiologist in CT guided biopsies, drainages, and CT guided interventions.
- Obtains patient history, explains exams/procedures to patients and parents, checks history and previous CT scan (if any) with designated Radiologist, and addresses patient and family concerns. li>Follows hospital patient-identification policy prior to performing examination. Utilizes two patient identifiers to ensure accuracy per policy. li>Loads and operates power injectors for IV contrast media administration.
- Maintains accurate and timely CT scan records. Ensures scanning and contrasts are accurate. li>Performs high-quality CT portion of Diagnostic PET Scan as per Radiologists protocol. li>Enters and transmits patient information to PACS for interpretation/reading promptly upon completion of examination. li>Adjusts equipment, determines proper technique, and arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain correct patient position. li>Communicates effectively with hospital employees, physicians, and patients. li>Answers phones and problem solves as needed. li>Practices radiation safety at all times and adheres to all clean sweep guidelines and infection control standards per policy. li>Performs portable examinations in the operating room and critical care units. Knowledge of portal operations and trouble shooting.
- Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of equipment, monitoring inventory, and stocking scan room. li>Performs QA, completes exam, enters and transmits patient information into PACS in a timely manner. li>Problem solves issues with equipment and reports equipment problems/malfunctions to clinical engineering or supervisor on an as needed basis.
