This position is responsible to work in a collaborative effort with your immediate supervisor, the Head Coach to educate athletes on proper training techniques, stretching, and nutrition. Ensure a constructive learning environment for students to increase their knowledge and skillset of the game. Utilize their knowledge and expertise to assist with practice sessions, coach game strategies, monitor student athlete's fitness levels for safety/precautions, and promote team unity. Demonstrate a level of professionalism, appearance, and attitude as a representative for the Yakama Nation Tribal School.
Examples of Work Performed:
Assist the Head Coach with organizational meetings for team prospects and encourage potential athletes to participate.
Organize practice schedules to ensure the best use of time, facilities, and staff personnel for the benefit of the individual, participant, and teams as directed by the Head Coach.
Emphasize safety precautions to prevent injuries.
Responsible for all team members for the duration of daily team practices/contests.
Assist with keeping updated contact records in case of an emergency.
Assist with the develop of team rules, communicate them to the players and equitable enforce them.
Attend coaching clinics as required by the WIAA, and/or hold current certificates.
Assist with monitoring the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
Submit a complete team roster to the Head Coach ten days prior to the first contest. The following items should be included: player's name, year in school, height, and uniform number where applicable.
Observe players during practice and games to evaluate individual needs and team improvements to enhance game strategy and team capabilities against opponents.
Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate standards of pupil behavior and appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
Assist with proper supervision of athletes at all times and apply discipline in a firm and positive manner, as needed.
Submit all invoices, back-up documentation and receipts for all pre-approved purchase and prepayment closeouts.
Help maintain records of team and individual accomplishments.
Be responsible for ALL supplies and equipment used during the season, including uniforms.
Able to attend and support tribal community activities as needed.
Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Athletic Director, Superintendent, Principal, or other Administrative Staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of rules, regulations, and techniques of the sport.
Knowledge of equipment utilized in the program and ability to maintain it.
Knowledge of physical fitness for level of play as a team and as individuals.

Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent required and must be 19 years of age as noted in the WIAA handbook.
Work experience with youth at the high school levels.
Annually complete the WIAA general rules clinic and the WIAA approved rule clinic for the sport being coached prior to the end of the third week of the sports season.
Possess a valid current First Aid Certification (or willing to obtain) or have completed a School District approved Athletic Training/Sports Medicine course equivalent to the Red Cross First Aid Card training or be enrolled in a First Aid Class.
Possess a valid current CPR Certification or be enrolled in and approved CPR C, it must be renewed every three years.
Have successfully completed Concussion recognition and management with Return to Play protocols and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness trainings as required by Washington State Law that must be renewed every three (3) years.
Before the beginning of the third year of coaching must complete a school district approved Coaching Principles training that requires a minimum of five (5) hours of instruction or complete the NFHS Coaches Fundamentals Course or attend all sessions of the WIAA Coaches School. After training completion coaches will be required to repeat this training every three (3) years.
Any combination of related courses, training and experience that provides the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities.
Must have no history of child abuse or neglect.
Must have no history of drug or alcohol abuse.
Must possess a current First Aid/CPR card.
Required to complete and pass a background and fingerprint check in accordance with the Yakama Nation Tribal School policy.
Required to pass a pre-employment background check.
Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.

- Must be able to work in a physically intensive environment - coaches may cover multiple miles in a shift moving through class, lifting and repeatedly moving equipment up to 25 pounds in weight.
- Must be comfortable working "hands-on" with kids to ensure proper technique and ensure student safety.

Job Summary

Job-Related Practice/Game Schedules
MS Varsity (7th-8th Grade)
Mondays and Wednesdays: 2:00 p.m. 315 p.m. Thursdays: 3:30 p.m. 5:00 p.m.
MS Junior Varsity (5th-6th-Grade)
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays: 3:30 p.m. 5:00 p.m.
Job Timeline/Season Length (8 Weeks)
Fall Athletic Season: August 20 October 10, 2025
Job Compensation
Nueva provides a competitive salary/stipend based on the practice and game schedule and the coaching assignment (Head Coach vs Assistant Coach). The overall stipend range is 2000- 6000. The salary is based upon, but not limited to, coaching/playing experience, licensing, certification, and overall education/knowledge in the sport.
Additional driving stipend available. Nueva pays between 50.00 to 100.00 per trip with a daily maximum of 100.00 per day. School vans are provided.
