Data Science Lead
Primary Skills
- ML - classification, regression, clustering, boosting, Time series - (ARIMA, xgboost, exponential smoothening, moving average), causal ML, random forest, decision trees and LLM is good to have.
- Location: Chicago, IL - Hybrid with 2-3 days on-site in a week
- Looking for a Data Science Lead with expertise in machine learning, time series forecasting, causal ML, cloud data platforms, and AI technologies:
- Programming: Proficiency in Python and PySpark for data manipulation and ML model development.
- ML Expertise: Strong experience in machine learning, especially:
- Time Series Forecasting (ARIMA, Prophet, LSTM, XGBoost, etc.)
- Causal ML (e.g., uplift modeling, propensity scoring, causal impact analysis)
- Deep Learning: Neural networks (CNNs, RNNs, LSTMs), transformers, embeddings
- NLP: Language modeling, embeddings (Word2Vec, BERT, GPT), text classification, summarization
- SQL: Strong skills in writing complex queries for data extraction and transformation.
- Cloud Platforms: Experience with AWS (S3, SageMaker, Lambda, Glue, etc.)
- Databricks: Familiarity with Lakehouse architecture, notebook development, and collaborative ML workflows.
We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Data Science Lead to drive advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives across our organization. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in machine learning, particularly in time series forecasting and causal inference modeling, along with hands-on experience in cloud-based data platforms and a strong understanding of AI technologies.
Will lead a team of data scientists and work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to design, develop, and deploy data-driven solutions that impact strategic business outcomes.

Summary
In this role, you will be paired with a Vizient executive as a mentor for the duration of this one-year program. You will work on data science projects across the healthcare domains of clinical & operations, supply chain, pharmacy, and healthcare strategy with data scientists to match projects to your interests and goals. You will improve your skills in operations, enhance products, and generate new insights. You will be a Fellow in a full-time position with a duration of one year, beginning in June 2026.

Responsibilities
- Work with internal data science teams on assigned projects.
- Develop data science approaches, including machine learning models, to improve understanding and predict health care outcomes, conduct data management, and other assigned tasks.
- Collaborate with internal Vizient staff and leaders, and external stakeholders including Vizient clients, vendors, and other third parties.
- Conduct self-directed research into healthcare data topics.
- Participate in client-facing meetings and 'voice-of-customer' work to gain understanding of Vizient business needs.
- Participation in rotations and completion of a capstone project during the Fellowship is an option.
- Organize a monthly Speaker Seminar Series in collaboration with co-fellow.
Qualifications
- Relevant degree preferred: Master's degree in data science, statistics, medical or health informatics, or related field highly desired.
- No previous work experience required.
- Demonstrated technical skills, including strong proficiency with database design involving SQL, and with programming languages such as Python, R, or SAS required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in quantitative skills including statistical inference such as Bayesian inference, machine learning application of mathematics for data analysis, and machine learning model development required.
- Graduate course and project work, or substantial experience in health care data or a technical field preferred.
- Experience with health care data, such as Electronic Health Records/Electronic Medical Records (EHR/EMR) data, and health care data standards preferred.
- Strong communication and project management skills preferred.
- Willingness to travel.
Estimated Hiring Range:
At Vizient, we consider skills, experience, and organizational needs in our compensation approach. Geographic factors may adjust the range estimate and hires typically fall below the top range. Compensation decisions are tailored to individual circumstances. The current salary range for this role is $51,900.00 to $87,900.00.This position is also incentive eligible.
