San Bernardino County is recruiting for Air Conditioning (HVAC) Mechanics* who are responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of various types of air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems for County buildings. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must successfully pass a background check and a job-related physical exam, including a drug test, prior to employment.
Physical: This position requires lifting heavy objects, either manually or with the aid of lifting devices. It also requires occasional squatting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, stooping, and working in dirty environments with extreme temperature changes.
Environment: Incumbents work in confined spaces and may occasionally be exposed to hazardous chemicals, infectious materials, and radiation.
Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. Employees must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver license.
Availability: Incumbents may occasionally be required to work on call, in a 24 hour environment, overtime, and evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet ONE of the following options AND required certification:
Option 1 - Work Experience: Four (4) years of journey-level experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial and industrial equipment for heating, ventilation, cooling (HVAC/chiller/boiler), and package units.
Option 2 - Apprenticeship: Successful completion of a formal (4-year) air conditioning apprenticeship program resulting in journey-level status. Indicate apprenticeship provider and completion date on the Supplemental Questionnaire. Attach a copy of your certificate or card to the application.

Required Certification: Possession of an EPA 608 Universal Certification.

Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished HVAC technician having commercial experience and demonstrating a strong knowledge of tools and techniques to maintain, diagnose, and repair HVAC systems; skilled experience working with air cooled and/or water-cooled chillers and direct digital controls (DDC).

**Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance.** **Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.**
**Essential Responsibilities:**
+ Install, service and repair environmental-control system, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, soldering, braising and structural layout.
+ Recommends solutions to problems in design and fit during installation and repair of HVAC systems, using three phase industrial power; performs field fit work when approved by the customer.
+ Mount compressor and condenser units on designated platforms using hand tools following blueprints or engineering specifications.
+ Perform troubleshooting and repair/replacement of motors and motor controls.
+ Be able to work safely with systems operating at 480 volts.
+ Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees.
+ Perform maintenance and repair of HVAC/R equipment for commercial and residential applications including commercial refrigeration equipment.
+ Ability to repair high- and low-pressure steam boilers, hot water boilers and all related equipment.
+ Shall operate a comprehensive Refrigerant Recovery Program to ensure the proper handling, containment, and management of refrigerants in compliance with all relevant environmental regulations and best practices.
+ Perform all work in compliance with environmental permits and regulations.
+ May be required to work overtime or varying hours to include shift work.
+ May be required to be on call and respond to callouts within 30 minutes.
+ Be at work when scheduled and maintain a good attendance record.
+ Work near and or in an ammunition/chemical demilitarization facility.
+ Must be willing to adapt to rapidly changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.

**Minimum Requirements:**
+ Must be 18 years or older.
+ High school diploma/equivalent.
+ Must be a US Citizen or naturalized citizen able to obtain/maintain HWAD site access.
+ Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State of Nevada driver's license.
+ Must also be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of government security clearance as well as a clearance through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and be favorably vetted through the NCIC III System.
+ Must be willing and able to work in an environmental and safety compliant environment.
+ Must be computer literate in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment.
+ Must maintain fitness-for-duty standards to perform the essential functions of the position, to include any HWAD drill, contingency and/or emergency requirement.
+ Must be able to obtain and maintain all certifications through Amentum's Master Training Plan.
+ Five (5) years' experience as an HVAC/R Technician
+ HVAC/R Trade certification required or proof of competency through certifications, letters of recommendation from previous employers, apprenticeship programs, etc.
+ EPA Section 608 Universal Certification

What youll do:
As a Commercial HVAC Serviceman Service Technician , you understand the importance of providing expert and quality service. We are looking for an individual who has:
- Inspect and maintain air-conditioning and HVAC systems to ensure efficient operation
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical malfunctions in heating and cooling units
- Install, replace, and calibrate HVAC equipment, including thermostatic controls and liquid lines
- Service refrigeration equipment including refrigerators, ice machines, gas packs, and heat pumps
- Maintain chilled and hot water supply systems and adjust internal control systems
- Assemble and install metal ductwork and assist in HVAC system planning and design
- Ensure compliance with City, State, and EPA regulations by maintaining detailed maintenance records
- Identify and mitigate risks to maintain a safe working environment
- Collaborate with management to support safety and operational standards
The Commercial HVAC Serviceman Service Technician Position offers:

As a Commercial HVAC Serviceman Service Technician, you understand the importance of providing expert service and quality. We are looking for an individual who has:
- 2+ years practical working experience in the HVAC Industry
- Ability to Push / Pull / Lift 50lbs
- Must be able to stand, crawl, sit, squat of extended period of time, climb a ladder, and the ability to work on rooftop
- High School Diploma/GED
- Posses and maintain valid and current Drivers License and be insurable by the companys insurance carrier
- Must either be a current union member or willing to join a union
Other experience and qualities you may have that would be beneficial in this role include:
- Basic understanding of building automation controls
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience using Salesforce and ServiceMax is a plus
