Job Summary: Performs phases of laboratory testing, as assigned.
Minimum Education: Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology or in a related biological/chemical science from an accredited college or university.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.
Work Experience: 0 - 6 months related experience in clinical laboratory.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: PC skills needed for efficient computer utilization. Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to organize work in an effective and efficient manner. Ability to be detail oriented in the examination of clinical and numerical data.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Collect and process biological specimens and other substances. Performs and reports routine analytical tests under direction of medical technologist, recognizing factors that affect procedures and results, and taking appropriate actions within predetermined limits when corrections are indicated. Perform and monitor quality control within predetermined limits. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment under direction of medical technologist. Supports laboratory goals by demonstrating teamwork, service excellence, adhering to established guidelines and policies. Looks for ways to improve processes. Performs other duties as assigned. Works with medical laboratory science students during educational laboratory activities.
Decision Making: Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.
Working Relationships: Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.

Laboratory Technologist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, equipment, and techniques of medical technology
- Knowledge of the principles of chemistry, biology, and bacteriology as related to medical technology

- Ability to instruct subordinate technologist in areas of medical laboratory testing
- Ability to perform assigned tasks according to prescribed procedures and to make accurate observations and records of tests results
