The OB Technician assists in obstetric and surgical procedures, acting as a scrub person and handling instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary for cesarean sections and vaginal deliveries. The OB Technician collaborates with nurses, physicians, and surgical staff, assisting in preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative tasks.
**Essential Functions**
+ Maintains sterile and aseptic technique, ensuring proper gowning, gloving, and draping of surgeons and assistants.
+ Prepares the surgical field for cesarean sections and vaginal deliveries, organizing and maintaining instruments, equipment, and supplies.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of step-by-step obstetric procedures, anticipating the needs of the surgeon and surgical team.
+ Monitors and ensures proper handling of surgical instruments, sponges, needles, and supplies, adhering to safety protocols and performing required counts.
+ Assists with patient positioning and room preparation, ensuring proper setup for obstetric and gynecological procedures.
+ Handles and properly labels specimens, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and laboratory standards.
+ Operates, cleans, and processes surgical and obstetric equipment, following proper sterilization and disinfection protocols.
+ Performs errands to pharmacy, lab, and diagnostic imaging departments, ensuring timely delivery of necessary supplies and specimens.
+ Follows Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) and facility standards, adhering to best practices for infection control and patient safety.
+ Assists in maintaining unit supplies and equipment, ensuring availability for emergency and scheduled procedures.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
+ Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
+ Complies with all policies and standards.
**Qualifications**
+ Technical School completion of a Surgical Technician or OB Technician training program required
+ 0-1 years of experience as an OB Technician, Surgical Technician, or in a related healthcare role required
+ 1-2 years of experience in labor and delivery, obstetric surgery, or women's health services preferred
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
+ Proficiency in obstetric and surgical procedures, including sterile technique, instrument handling, and patient positioning.
+ Strong knowledge of infection control, sterilization, and disinfection processes for obstetric and surgical equipment.
+ Ability to anticipate surgical team needs, ensuring smooth and efficient procedural flow.
+ Effective communication and teamwork skills, collaborating with physicians, nurses, and surgical staff.
+ Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety protocols, including proper specimen handling, equipment operation, and surgical counts.

OB Techs functions include:
+ Assists with vaginal deliveries under the direction of a Registered Nurse and provider and within scope of practice.
+ Functions as a Scrub Tech for surgical procedures.

+ Assists with maintenance of Point of Care Testing and High Level Disinfection equipment.
+ Performs clerical and business support tasks as assigned.

Day to Day:
+ Primary Duties will be;
+ Scrubbing on C-Sections (emergent/ Scheduled), D&C's, emergency hysterectomies, and assisting w/vaginal deliveries.
+ Providing additional supplies and sterile instruments as needed.
+ Maintaining Sterile field during procedures.
+ Functioning in a secretarial role when there isn't coverage.
+ Assisting with room turnover and restocking for next day's cases.
+ Answering call lights and doors, making charts, patient check in and rooming, arriving/discharging patients in EPIC.
Deliveries per month-40-50
1 OR Suite, 1 Triage Room, 12 LDRP Beds, 4 Pediatric Rooms, 7 open bay NICU lvl II rooms
Schedule: 24hrs/week-Nights- Variable shift times per surgical Volume and current unit needs
Call required: 2shifts per 6 week schedule block- Days and Nights
30min Call back radius required- 15mins preferred for sts/c-sections when on call.
Qualifications:

The OB Post-Partum department at St. Catherine Hospital consists of 12 LDRP, one triage, one OR suite, four pediatric rooms and seven open bay NICU Level II rooms. This consists of three different units: L&D, pediatrics and NICU. We treat pregnant women, pediatric patients from two to 17 days, 32 weeks gestational to 40 weeks for NICU. This department is desirable as it is a rural, main hub, where caregivers get to see and do almost anything. We are very hands-on when taking care of patients. Candidates are welcome who are flexible and passionate about patient care. Candidates must be willing to help in other departments depending on our census. **About the job:**
Scrubs in for surgical procedures, ensuring that all necessary supplies and equipment are available. Maintains a sterile field prior to and during procedures. Performs clerical and reception duties related to the operation of the nursing department.
**Job Duties:**
+ Assists the RN with the delivery of direct patient care, which meets the physical and emotional needs of the patient. Also assists in the process of admissions, discharges and transports. Maintains accurate patient census.
+ Scrubs for procedure and prepares instruments, supplies and equipment prior to the procedure, handling the same during the procedure and participates in functions related to returning items to "patient ready". Inspects wrappers on sterile packs and supplies to verify sterility, reporting any variances. Correctly applies principles of sterile technique once scrubbed and functioning in the sterile fields.
+ Assists in preparing the Surgery room by checking for emergency readiness including verifying availability of supplies for the procedure against the preference card. Informs RN circulator of needs to assure availability upon physician request.
+ Performs newborn hearing screens, infant photos and assists with newborn circumcisions as assigned and under direct observation of an RN.
+ Maintains patient chart for current use, this includes filing reports, inserting and removing forms appropriately and breaking down charts for medical records.
+ Answers call lights on the unit and responds appropriately.
+ Cleans nursing station, utensils, patient care equipment, kitchens, refrigerators, and storage areas as assigned.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
**Job Specifications:**
**Education:** The ability to read and write English and perform basic math skills, normally acquired in completing elementary education. High School diploma preferred.
**Licensure** : CPR certification on hire or able to attain within 60 days
**Experience** : Minimum of 6 months as a nursing assistant and surgical tech with previous OB experience desired.

+ **Welcome & Communicate:** Act as our Family Birthplace's receptionist and communication hub.
+ **Support Care:** Assist professional nurses with delegated tasks, including circumcision support.
+ **Ensure Safety:** Prepare for procedures using sterile technique.
+ **Engage Families:** Offer promotional materials and tours to prospective parents.
+ **Maintain Readiness:** Requisition supplies, equipment, and maintenance services.
+ **Collaborate:** Work closely with our interdisciplinary team to meet patient needs.
**Shift:** 6:45am - 7:15pm

**Job Requirements**
**What you bring:**
+ **Required:** Current **Oregon CNA license** .
+ **Required:** American Heart Association **BLS for Health Care Providers** within 30 days of hire.
+ **Preferred:**
+ 2+ years as a CNA.
+ Experience as an OB Technician and/or Surgical Technician.
+ Medical terminology knowledge.
