About the Role: The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians is seeking a detail-oriented Court Clerk/Recorder to provide administrative support for our Tribal Court. In this role, you will assist in court activities, including case management and court recording duties. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with administrative experience who values confidentiality, accuracy, and teamwork in a mission-driven government setting.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as an Administrative or Legal Assistant, or Court Clerk;
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel (skills test required)
  • An understanding of the Tribal Court System and Tribal Laws
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of legal terms

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Performs clerical and administrative tasks, including case file management, data entry, answering phones, processing mail, responding to emails, greeting visitors, scheduling hearings, and providing general information or referrals.
  2. Reviews court filings for accuracy and compliance with applicable rules and statutes; issues summonses and service authorizations; maintains accurate records of pleadings and court actions.
  3. Assists with jury selection processes, including mailing juror questionnaires, preparing summonses, and processing juror reimbursements.
  4. Performs courtroom recording duties, sets up and tests equipment, swears in witnesses, marks and logs exhibits, documents hearing details, and ensures accurate audio recordings.
  5. Collects and processes court-related payments, issues receipts, and deposits funds per court and tribal financial procedures.
  6. Coordinates with the Purchasing Department for ordering office supplies and materials.
  7. Prepares transcripts, hearing recordings, and case file copies in response to formal requests.
  8. May require occasional overnight travel for training or meetings, and occasional evening or after-hours availability during court sessions.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Chief Judge.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the general supervision of Team Lead or Program Director, this position is responsible to counsel and aid clients, having a behavioral health diagnosis with possible co-occurring substance abuse disorder and criminal justice involvement. Advocates for and guides clients through court appearances, assisting clients in understanding and completing program requirements established by the mental health court.

This is an at-will direct service position within the programs and is responsible for assisting members in meeting their expressed goals, while living in the community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)

  • Assists clients in understanding the levels of choice in the Mental Health Court process.
  • Advocates for clients in all areas of treatment and across settings.
  • Meets with clients in jail, hospital or residence as indicated.
  • Accompanies clients to all court related proceedings or meetings.
  • Refers clients to other support services as needed, such as medical evaluation/treatment, housing and employment services.
  • Assists clients with obtaining proof of illness or other situation, in the event of unavoidable absence from court related meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM:

Associates Degree in Social Work or related field and a minimum of four (4) years varied experience as a consumer of mental health services or as a provider of mental health services. Equivalent experience as either a consumer or family member of a person with behavioral health diagnosis and/or criminal justice involvement may be substituted for the educational requirement.

OPTIMUM:

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field and two (2) years experience as a provider of mental health services or related court experience. Equivalent experience as either a consumer or family member of a person with behavioral health diagnosis and/or criminal justice involvement may be substituted for the educational requirement.

**Qualifications**
+ High School Diploma or equivalent.

+ Must have successfully completed or graduated from a certified Federal, state, county, local or military law enforcement training academy or program that provided instruction on the use of police powers in an armed capacity while dealing with the public. **Responsibilities**
+ Enforces the district's entry and identification system.
+ Tests and reports emergency equipment.
+ Patrols court facilities and grounds of the facility in accordance with applicable post orders.
+ Mans USMS authorized stationary posts.
+ Provides focused surveillance on incoming traffic to entrances from inside or outside the facility in order to detect oncoming threats before reaching the screening area.
+ Provides armed escort services for judges, court personnel, jurors, and other designated individuals.
+ Provides security services for off-site and remote judicial functions where access to the site can be controlled and public screening conducted.
+ Directs traffic, controls lights on court facility properties, and monitors vehicles and pedestrians as described in the post orders.
+ May occasionally be assigned to provide courtroom security during hearings.
+ Provides security presence in the courtroom, enforce federal law and judicial orders within the courthouse.
+ Turns over any articles found in a court facility or designated facility to the COR and completes a CSO003 within 24 hours after the incident occurs.
+ Keeps supervisors and managers informed of unusual occurrences and important events as detailed in post orders, rules, regulations, guidelines and protocols.
+ Monitors alarms, radio traffic and other information sources.
+ Dispatches or informs others as needed and authorized.
+ Reports and appropriately addresses fire alarms, burglary alarms, requests for assistance and criminal acts.
+ Stops, screens, inquires, and inspects vehicles and pedestrians entering and / or exiting the facility as directed by post orders, rules, regulations, guidelines and protocols.
+ Properly uses equipment issued or available for use.
+ Prevents passage of prohibited articles onto or off client facility.
+ Escorts individuals or vehicles in accordance with post orders, rules, regulations, guidelines and protocols.
+ Maintains all necessary licensing, certifications, training and records for legal employment for the Security Guard position.
+ Uses portable radios, phones or other communication devises appropriately and according to established rules.
+ Monitors all equipment; guards against loss or damage; reports any such loss or damage immediately to a supervisor or manager.
+ Performs necessary work regardless of weather conditions.
+ Logs in Property Pass numbers for authorized property/equipment movements.
+ Ensures the security of government property, detains personnel using the mantrap when needed, and reporting anyone involved with unauthorized property/equipment removal.
+ Conducts regular patrols and inspections of buildings and facilities.
+ Issues required badges or passes to authorized personnel.
+ Monitors electronic access control and report violations.
+ Monitors radio-frequency identification (RFID) systems and respond to alarms indicating unauthorized removal of government property.
+ Grants access to areas during non-working hours to authorized personnel in accordance with the established procedure and access lists.

**Qualifications**
+ High School Diploma or equivalent.
+ Be at least 21 years of age.
+ Minimum of 3 years of verifiable civilian law enforcement experience OR an equivalent position with the
+ United States Armed Forces (military).
+ The experience must include general arrest authority.
+ All three (3) years shall have occurred within the last seven (7) years.
+ Must have successfully completed or graduated from a certified Federal, state, county, local or military law enforcement training academy or program that provided instruction on the use of police powers in an armed capacity while dealing with the public.
+ The certificate shall be recognized by a Federal, state, county, local or military authority, and provide evidence that an individual is eligible for employment as a law enforcement officer.
