Newly created Portfolio Accountant position within a San Francisco-based venture capital / investment firm started almost 20 years ago. The company is thriving and experience tremendous growth and success! They are looking for a highly motivated and team-oriented individual to join their growing Finance team. This person will be a member of a four-person Finance team which is responsible for all accounting, record keeping, investment valuations, partner allocations, audit and tax filings, investor relations / reporting and database management for 25+ entities (funds and SPV's). Fund Accounting is being outsourced. The specific responsibilities include : Perform quarterly close process including valuations Oversight of daily cash management Process investor capital activity, income allocations, and fees Coordination of capital calls / distributions Collaborate with and manage outsourced fund administrator Design scalable, repeatable, and adaptable processes through automation and / or implementation of new applications Assist with annual US GAAP financial statement preparation and audit process Act as a liaison to the Investment team Onboarding new investors including review of Sub docs and assist with overseeing KYC compliance Perform other special projects as requested Demonstrate understanding of US tax reporting including K-1 reviews Assist with Management Company accounting and reporting Candidates should possess the following characteristics and qualifications : Undergraduate or graduate degree, preferably in accounting or finance Strong critical thinking and problem solving abilities Commitment to excellence and pride in work product Ability to perform technical research and writing and to implement those ideas into actionable processes that are both scalable and repeatable Strong computer skills, particularly Excel; Ability to create macros is a plus Experience in accounting for or auditing investment companies, familiarity with diverse portfolios is a plus (private company and fund investments) Demonstrate flexibility and ability to work both independently and in team environment with personnel throughout every level of the firm Desire to work in the details while demonstrating a strong grasp on macro perspective Ability to multitask and effectively prioritize work assignments Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and documentation skills This is an excellent opportunity for a person who wants to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment, and be a key contributor to building out a best-in-class venture capital firm.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As part of a highly collaborative global Private Investments team, the Investment Director’s primary responsibility will be to identify, evaluate and monitor high-quality private investment managers, particularly in the venture capital and growth equity strategies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a key resource on VC and GE managers and funds in North America.
  • Lead meetings with general partners, management teams, and other relevant professionals to assess and evaluate investment managers and their funds.
  • Lead reference calls regarding investment opportunities and market views with industry participants.
  • Complete written assessments and recommendations utilized by our clients and colleagues to support investment decisions. For funds, this includes detailed diligence reports backed by meetings, factual analyses and references; and for the market, this entails periodic research reports on current topics of interest.
  • Monitor market trends and contribute to C|A’s thought leadership in this area.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • MBA or CFA strongly preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and familiarity with private investing
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and strong written and oral communication skills
  • Significant experience performing complex financial analysis and modeling and ideally some experience with partnership agreements and understanding what is standard and what is not
  • Ability to assign priorities to multiple requests for information, while ensuring integrity, accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of data
  • Demonstrated relationship-building skills and ideally a strong list of contacts in the PE/VC industry to help with relationship building as well as referencing
  • Ability to work independently and under time constraints

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct in-depth financial modeling (e.g., DCF, IRR, equity waterfall) for potential real estate acquisitions, developments, and dispositions across various property types (e.g., multi-family, office, retail, industrial).
  • Perform comprehensive market research and analysis, including economic trends, demographic shifts, competitive landscape, and supply-demand dynamics within target submarkets.
  • Prepare detailed investment memoranda, presentations, and reports for investment committee review, internal stakeholders, and potential investors.
  • Lead and manage the due diligence process for new investments, coordinating with legal, tax, environmental, and third-party consultants.
  • Assist in the negotiation of acquisition and financing agreements.
  • Support asset management activities, including performance monitoring, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting for existing portfolio assets.
  • Develop and maintain databases of market comparables, transaction data, and property performance metrics.

Qualifications:
