Arrow Service Team is looking for a full-time Painter to join our restoration team!


Arrow Service Team is the leader in the disaster restoration industry in North Dakota, based out of Bismarck. A restoration Painter is scheduled to work on a variety of different projects at different site locations throughout the workweek. What makes working at Arrow unique is the work itself in that it entails restoring a property (or parts of a property) back to its pre-loss condition and look rather than construction of a new property. Jobs range from small to large and depends on how much and where the damage took place. Our restoration painters primarily work on painting the interior of residential homes or commercial properties. Time is also scheduled at the shop for staining and/or painting trim packs, cabinets, and doors, readying building materials for installation by are carpentry team.


Restoration Painters use company vans to get to and from assigned job locations. Most work is done in a team environment. As Arrow's footprint extends beyond the Bismarck/Mandan area, travel is sometimes required. On occasions, overnights may be necessary. In these situations, Arrow pays for the hotel and a nightly per diem is provided.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Brushing, rolling, and spraying, depending on job and material (for example: walls, trim, doors and jambs, cabinets, etc.).
  • Mask, fill holes, and sand out imperfections.
  • Complete jobs, utilizing appropriate finishes and applications in adherence to the owners or property managers instructions.
  • Cleaning of areas, supplies, and equipment at the completion of the project.
  • Provide necessary documentation for work that is completed.
  • Paint exterior and interior areas of residential and commercial buildings.

Experience and Skills:

  • Ability to complete projects in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
  • Individual must be familiar with techniques of painting and staining.
  • Knowledge of painting material and how to select, mix, and apply.
  • Painting experience 1 + year(s), preferred, but willing to train the right individual (positive attitude, punctual, has will, want, and desire, etc.).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.


Physical Demands:

  • Lift (constantly) 5-15 lbs., lift (frequently) 15-30 lbs.
  • May involve significant stand/walk/ push/pull.
  • Consistent climbing (ladders, scaffolding, etc.), balancing, crouching, frequent stooping, reaching, kneeling, and handling.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces (occasional).
  • Exposure to weather with temperatures ranging from mild to moderate.


Pay:

  • Starting pay is negotiable and strongly depending on experience and trade skill.
  • 90-day review (potential for wage adjustment if applicable).
  • Annual reviews scheduled thereafter within department review cycle (potential for wage adjustment if applicable).

Schedule:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent


License/Certification:

  • Valid Driver's License (required)

Essential Functions

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The General Services Department is seeking Painters to perform general painting, restoration & refinishing techniques to reduce replacement costs and enhance the life of equipment, furnishings, and facilities. The duties for this position include but are not limited to:

Reviews and implements work orders and assignments:

  • Receive and complete work orders, identifying and addressing necessary repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment through established inspection procedures.

  • Maintain accurate records of materials and labor used, oversee inventory of tools, and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment

Identifies, prepares and obtains required materials, supplies and equipment to complete assignments:

  • Select premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors.

  • Performs general painting, restoration and refinishing techniques, e.g., spray and brush painting, varnishing, priming, scraping, floating and taping

  • Paint surfaces using brushes, spray guns, paint rollers, or other methods to achieve required effects, and stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces

Repairs damaged surfaces:

  • Prepare surfaces for painting by sanding, removing old paint, filling holes, cracks, and joints with appropriate filler, taping, floating, and texturing walls and ceilings

Mixes and blends paint to match colors.

Uses a variety of hand and power tools:

  • Erect scaffolding, set up ladders, or use hoists to perform tasks above ground level

  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures

Maintains a safe and clean work area:

  • Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean and excess materials are removed as needed

  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition

  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing

  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor

  • Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through nine to eleven years of formal schooling. No special knowledge of any subject area or technical field is required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Two years of experience as a painter are required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Must have a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

May require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an "H" endorsement for transporting hazardous material

General Functions:

1. Performs inside and outside painting duties in a productive manner to include: - preparing paint by mixing components accurately- preparing surfaces before painting- applying specified coatings of paint

2. Utilizes standard paint equipment such as paint and airless spray equipment, motorized lifts, paint brushes and other related equipment.

3. Applies technical knowledge of all coating materials to ensure acceptable application.

4. Prepares for painting by erecting scaffold and ladders properly.

5. Disposes of residual materials appropriately.

6. Assists with the training of apprentices.

7. Reports to management when the work is completed and/or if there are problems/discrepancies with the jobs.

8. Maintains work area in a neat and clean manner.

9. Advises management of malfunctioning tools and equipment.

10. Answers customer inquiry regarding jobs as needed.

11. Adheres to all company policies and procedures paying special attention to health and/or safety procedures.

12. Performs other related duties as assigned.
