**The Opportunity:**
The Optical and Photonics Systems group of CACI is looking for candidates to help develop the next generation of optical technologies. These include free-space optical communications terminals and modems and high-power optical sources across the optical spectrum. Particularly, efforts will develop the next generation of capabilities, with previous successes having flown on the International Space Station as part of an optical communications relay demonstration and another having achieved the current largest data optical transmission range of >19 million miles, along with developing the Space Defense Agency's standard terminal for laser communications.
This position is contingent upon contract award.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Perform detailed Finite Element Analysis using ANSYS or similar software to evaluate the structural integrity of mechanical systems
+ Develop and validate FEA models to predict stress, strain, deformation, and failure modes under various loading conditions (e.g., launch loads, operational vibration)
+ Conduct dynamic analysis to assess the vibrational characteristics of mechanical systems
+ Conduct calculations for bolted joints to ensure proper preload, torque, and structural integrity
+ Prepare detailed documentation of analysis methods, results, and recommendations.
+ Conduct tests and experiments to gather data for model validation
**Qualifications:**
_Required:_
+ US citizenship required
+ Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar field, and a minimum of 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience
+ Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis for mechanical systems (ANSYS preferred)
+ Strong understanding of dynamic systems and vibration analysis
+ Experience with CAD software such as Solidworks, Ansys Discovery, etc.
+ Knowledge of materials and properties of engineering materials
+ Ability to perform static and dynamic load calculations
+ Experience in modeling and simulating mechanical systems
+ Hands-on mindset, able to transition between analysis and real hardware
_Desired:_
+ A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar field
+ Experience in utilizing bearing analysis software such as Orbis or Cobra (Orbis preferred)
+ Experience in comparing test data to critical model points and performing model correlation
+ Experience with modal testing (modal hammer, shaker, etc.) to determine the frequency response function of a mechanical system

+ Plans and directs engineering assignments on the project
+ Possesses technical responsibilities for interpreting, organizing,executing, and coordinating these assignments

**Essential Functions:**
- Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same.
