BAE Systems is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Checking Specialist for our Countermeasure & Electromagnetic Attack Solutions (CEMA) business area. CEMA is focused on next-generation threat detection, countermeasure, and attack solutions to provide customers with full-spectrum electronic warfare capabilities to enhance mission survivability. The checking position we are seeking to fill will be assigned to work in the Nashua, New Hampshire area full-time on-site.
**Basic Job Function:**
Ensure engineering product definition (drawings, associated design models, Bills of material, etc.) meets all contract and company requirements before releasing to production control.
Provide support on our countermeasures-based products and other challenging technologies. You will be part of a Design & Drafting Community working with the latest CAD Technology and Processes who are always forward planning with Industry professionals to define future of CAD and product definition capabilities as well as its support of Digital Engineering via 3D Model Based Definition. You also will advance your technical skills while performing your assigned responsibilities on development projects and supporting our existing product portfolio.
The individual selected for this position will be an experienced Mechanical Design Drafting Checker who is a problem solver with diverse technical capabilities, sound design and drafting checking skills, and geometrical tolerance fundamentals. The requirements assigned to this position, while under the guidance of Program and Engineering Leadership, include the following:
+ Capable of reviewing engineering data in CREO Parametric (Pro/E).
+ Proficient reading and understanding Engineering Drawings and Bills of Material.
+ Experienced dimensioning and tolerancing IAW ASME Y14.5.
+ Experienced with drawing types IAW ASME Y14.24.
+ Experienced with drawing practices IAW ASME Y14.100.
+ Able to review and evaluate tolerance analysis.
+ Able to professionally provide feedback and recommendations on drawing and design improvements.
+ Familiar working with a formal Product Lifecycle Data Management System (PLMS)
+ Able to collaborate with Drafters, Designers, Engineers, Manufacturers and Suppliers.
+ Work on SAP/SAR or similar closed programs on-site in secure areas
+ Effective Communicator, both verbally and written.
**Required Education, Experience, & Skills**
+ An Associate s Degree or higher, and 12 years Design Drafting experience with 2 years dedicated to Checking function; or
+ 15 years Design Drafting experience with 3 years dedicated to Checking function
+ Active DoD Security Clearance

**Pay Information**
Full-Time Salary Range: $95106 - $

Accountabilities:
  • Provide technical assistance and support to other department personnel.

_Eversource supports work-life balance by offering hybrid schedules for certain roles. Eligibility is based on job responsibilities, operational needs, nature of work and team dynamics. Current guidelines require employees to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the third day set by the employee and supervisor based on department needs. This position has the responsibility for planning, coordinating and managing activities related to the design and documentation associated with new transmission & distribution substations, and the modification and expansion of existing distribution substations. Supervises the work activities of personnel assigned to the Substation Design unit. Ensures projects undertaken are in accordance with Eversource Design and Application Standards and ensures that the design work of the Substation Design Unit is in compliance with safety, budget and schedule requirements.
**Essential Functions:**
+ Supervises, coaches, develops and reviews performance of Design and Drafting staff. Supervises, assigns, prioritizes and directs work performed by at least 2 FTE Design and/or Drafting staff.
+ Oversees outside CAD Consultant to implement automated CAD features for improved drawings and drawing development.
+ Advances the latest available CAD capabilities across operating companies.
+ Develops detailed electrical design criteria for specific design projects in conjunction with substation project engineering.
+ Oversees the application of established design standards, procedures and criteria. Approves all drawings and other documentation prepared by the Substation Design unit for assigned projects. Approves purchase requisitions for materials and equipment required for assigned projects. Approves design solutions to operating and maintenance problems.
+ Supervises the preparation of or prepares detailed schedules and man-day estimates for assigned substation design projects.
+ Supervises the development of conceptual designs for potential substation projects.
+ Supervises the development of designs and drawings for additions or modifications to existing transmission, bulk supply and distribution substations.
+ Supervises the development of design sketches of yard and equipment layouts, wiring and interconnection diagrams, groundings, and other schemes for substation additions or modifications.
+ Ensures that technical calculations in support of substation designs are accurate and complete.
+ Supervises the writing of technical specifications involving substation project materials and equipment.
+ Supervises the preparation of purchase requisitions for materials and equipment required for substation projects.
+ Provides direction to and evaluates the performance of outside contractors and vendors providing substation equipment and design services.
+ Works with other system areas in the planning, project management, coordination and monitoring of schedule and equipment requirements.
+ Ensures technical data is made available to appropriate personnel for feasibility studies involving new or modified substation projects.
+ Actively supports storm and/or emergency restoration assignments.
+ Manages the drawing field mark-ups and as built process for minimizing back log.
+ Supervise and support document control, form control and drawing production process and have working familiarity with the ADEPT Library.
**Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:**

+ Working familiarity with CAD tools & drafting techniques
+ Working familiarity with the ADEPT library
+ Appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to inspire and guide employees, with the ability to modify employee behavior to accommodate tasks, situations and unforeseen priorities

+ Demonstrated high standards of professional and technical competence
+ Complete and thorough knowledge of technical skills including system-wide application
_Education:_
+ Associate's degree in Engineering required; Electrical Engineering major preferred
+ Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is desirable
_Experience_ :
+ Ten years of related direct engineering or design experience in substations, distribution and/or transmission engineering or operation
**Working Conditions:**
+ Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
+ Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

The Opportunity
The Design & Drafting Technologist acting as a Drafting Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the lifecycle of technical drawings and ensuring the quality, accuracy, and compliance of drafting deliverables. This role acts as a liaison between internal teams, external vendors, and project stakeholders to manage drawing workflows, enforce standards, and support project execution across multiple disciplines.
What you'll do
  • Ensure comprehensive understanding of the Engineering Design & Drafting Services (ED&DS) role and its impact on project outcomes and compliance.
  • Maintain accountability for adhering to all drafting specifications, standards, and procedures.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with company requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Incorporate redlined comments accurately and completely into drafting tasks.
  • Oversee drafting-related aspects of the project lifecycle, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables.
  • Review drawings for design principles, spatial relationships, and interference checking.
  • Collaborate efficiently with other disciplines for cohesive project results.
  • Assess quality and completeness of 2D drawings derived from 3D models.
  • Review 3D models of plant components, piping systems, and equipment for accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage drawing revisions and change control in the Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) independently.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex root cause issues related to system data and drawing management.
  • Manage multiple projects of moderate complexity, engaging with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of a 2-3 year technical school program or associate degree in engineering technology.
  • 9+ years of equivalent industry experience.
  • Business knowledge and understanding of customer needs.
  • Effective communication and conflict resolution.
  • Critical thinking, broad problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Ability to prioritize work, navigate ambiguity, and work within the organization.
  • Proficient in design and drafting fundamentals (mechanical, civil, electrical, etc.).
  • Ability to interact with peers in other disciplines.
  • Proficiency in generating 2D drawings and documentation from 3D models.
  • Ability to create basic 3D models of plant, piping, and equipment components.
  • Strong understanding of software ecosystem, architecture, and interdependencies.
  • Ability to manage drawing revisions and change control in EDMS.
  • Understanding of system data and ability to recommend improvements for data integrity and business results
