Location: In-person, Cincinnati, Ohio

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Health Education, or a related field.
• Valid Ohio teaching license in Physical Education and/or Health; Adaptive PE endorsement preferred.
• Experience working with students with behavioral challenges
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with digital learning tools

Job Summary:

The Lower and Middle School Gym and Health Instructor is responsible for designing and delivering a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate physical education and health curriculum for primary, elementary and middle school students, grades 1-8. This role integrates physical fitness, health education, and wellness practices to support the holistic development of students, including those with special needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Curriculum & Instruction
  1. Develop and implement engaging, individualized lesson plans aligned with Ohio Department of Education standards for Physical Education and Health.
  2. Deliver direct instruction in physical education and health, ensuring lessons are inclusive, interactive, age-appropriate, and adapted for students with diverse needs.
  3. Incorporate wellness topics such as nutrition, hygiene, emotional regulation, and healthy lifestyle habits.
  4. Track on student understanding, participation and progress using online grade book and complete quarterly report cards.

• Student Support & Individualization
  1. Modify instruction and provide accommodation to meet the unique needs of each student and in accordance to student individualized education plans (IEP’s).
  2. Implement the Teaching Family Model (TFM) and maintain the integrity of the agency’s motivation system.
  3. Provide crisis intervention, including de-escalation and physical restraint when necessary, in accordance with training.

• Collaboration & Communication
  1. Collaborate with classroom teachers, aides, therapists, and families to support student success.
  2. Communicate student progress and concerns to internal teams and families.
  3. Participate in treatment team meetings, daily debriefings, and staff meetings.
  4. Perform duties as assigned
  5. Serve on school or agency committees as assigned.

• Administration & Compliance
  1. Maintain accurate records including lesson plans, grades, point sheets,and incident reports.
  2. Monitor and manage relevant budget items related to health and physical education programming.
  3. Ensure compliance with state standards and agency policies.

• Professional Development
  1. Attend professional seminars and maintain certifications in CPR, First Aid, Crisis Intervention, and TFM.
  2. Complete and participate in all assigned trainings.
  3. Stay current with best practices in health and physical education, especially for students with behavioral and developmental challenges.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

Work occurs in a mix of classroom, gymnasium, and therapeutic settings. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and participate in physical activities and crisis interventions. Exposure to students with behavioral challenges and bodily fluids may occur.
