_Works primarily in the lab specimen processing/intake department of the lab. Assist with specimen management and clerical duties as requested. May perform blood collection and specimen processing. 1. Practices positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions.

7. May perform phlebotomy. Follows blood collection procedures, performs venous and capillary punctures on all age groups of inpatient and outpatient populations, including blood bank collections. Utilizes appropriate collection techniques to obtain quality samples and adheres to appropriate volume requirements.
8. May assist with phlebotomy training under the direction of the supervisor and/or coordinator.
9. As allowed by local and state regulations, may perform CLIA waived and moderately complex laboratory testing following written technical policies and procedures. Evaluates and releases test results under the direction of a Clinical Lab Scientist. Evaluates result validity considering quality control results, instrument performance, specimen integrity and prior patient results.
10. Performs routine maintenance on lab equipment and maintains records as trained.
11. Monitors department supply inventory and assists in stocking, completes reagent logs.

**Overview:**

You will be receiving and preparing for the tests as they come in, as well as performing some testing as allowed. **Some of what you'll do:**
+ Practice positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions.
+ Practice HumanKindness and courtesy with all patient and co-worker interactions and maintain good communication within the department and throughout the hospital.
+ Take responsibility for the department workflow and assist all members of the team to maintain department workflow and efficiency creating an atmosphere that fosters teamwork and collaboration.
+ Process specimen into the lab, organized for department distribution, and move samples quickly for testing.
+ May perform allowed laboratory testing following written technical policies and procedures.
+ Evaluate and release test results under the direction of a Clinical Lab Scientist, evaluating result validity considering quality control results, instrument performance, specimen integrity and prior patient results.
+ Handle Laboratory Send-out testing, processing and organizing packing lists and packaging for testing sent to external laboratories.
+ Use good judgment when problem solving and request help when needed.
+ May perform phlebotomy, following blood collection procedures and utilizing appropriate collection techniques to obtain samples adhering to quality and quantity requirements
+ May assist with phlebotomy training under the direction of the supervisor and/or coordinator.
+ Perform routine maintenance on lab equipment and maintain records as trained.
+ Monitor department supply inventory, assist in stocking, and complete reagent logs.
**Qualifications**
**Required:**
+ High School Diploma or GED
+ BLS-CPR within 90 days of hire
+ Excellent customer service and time management skills
**Preferred:**
+ 6 Months experience in acute care facility
+ Lab Assistant and/or Phlebotomy certification

Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars, IA has a full-time (40 hours per week) position in our Laboratory Department for a Laboratory Assistant.

**Laboratory Assistant Responsibilities:**
+ The Lab Assistant duties include, but are not limited to: performing phlebotomy, drug and alcohol testing, operating and maintaining waived lab equipment.
+ Takes lab orders from physician's offices. Request faxed orders with diagnosis and signatures. Notifies providers of orders that do not meet lab criteria.
+ Represents the laboratory by screening incoming telephone calls; recording and transmitting messages; scheduling, receiving, and announcing scheduled patients and visitors.
**Requirements:**
+ Two years of clinical Lab experience is preferred.
+ High School diploma or GED.
+ BLS a plus; certification is required as an employee.
+ Mandatory Reporter training certificate a plus; certification is required as an employee.
