Responsibilities:
We are looking for an individual that understands the automotive electrical system and that knows how to work on vehicles. As an Emergency Vehicle Installer your primary responsibilities are installing, repairing, testing, and removing 12-volt law enforcement vehicle equipment, including, but not limited light bars, flashers, sirens, video cameras, laptops, printers, consoles, transport partitions, radios, speakers, antennas, routers, and more. Dana Safety Supply will provide industry specific training for the right candidates.
+ Automotive or marine 12v experience is a plus.
+ Transdev Fleet Services works on police, public safety and other vehicles for both local and federal accounts.
+ The Installer must be able to perform physically demanding tasks that may require accessing confined spaces to modify the vehicles to the client's requirements.
+ Operating Monday- Friday. Some weekend work may be applicable for large projects.
Qualifications:
+ Minimum of 2 years of experience is desired but not required.
+ Knowledge of vehicle wiring
+ Able to identify electrical circuits.
+ Experience w/ installation of emergency lighting desired but not required.
+ Able to communicate well with others.
+ Able to work on and see small objects.
+ Good hearing and color vision
+ Be prompt and prepared to work.
+ Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certification is desired but not required.
+ Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers by performing limited repairs & troubleshooting of low & high voltage electrical systems with minimal supervision.
+ Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The purpose of this safety sensitive (SS) position is to perform repairs and preventative maintenance duties on a wide variety of fire apparatus, vehicles, and equipment. This position is responsible for inspecting fire apparatus, vehicles, and equipment, diagnosing mechanical problems and making necessary repairs, performing preventative maintenance and repair work, maintaining parts inventory, maintain maintenance records, and performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Repairs and performs routine and preventative maintenance on fire apparatus, vehicles, and equipment, both in shop and on-site: coordinates repair/service activities with appropriate Fire department personnel, Fleet Services personnel, and/or outside service providers; identifies maintenance/repair priorities, taking into consideration factors such as safety and equipment downtime; works to minimize repair and maintenance costs and length of down time; plans and schedules work to ensure equipment is ready for service.
  2. Ensures compliance of repair and maintenance work with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees, vehicle drivers, and other individuals; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
  3. Verifies that proper repairs are completed on fire apparatus, vehicles, and equipment performed by outside vendors or repair facilities.
  4. Visually and manually inspects fire apparatus, vehicles, and equipment to diagnose problems. Inspects, tests, and diagnoses issues involving various systems/components of fire apparatus, vehicles, and equipment. Troubleshoots and repairs electrical, mechanical, hydraulic malfunctions, and air conditioning systems.
  5. Performs proper repair, removal, replacement, rebuilding, or maintenance work on fire apparatus, vehicles, and equipment systems and components.
  6. Designs, engineers, and builds a variety of specialized storage and mounting components to obtain effective access, removal and storage of tools and equipment on vehicles/apparatus: installs add-on equipment for newly obtained fire apparatus, vehicles, and equipment; welds, fabricates, and/or assembles metal components, parts, brackets, storage systems, and/or equipment for fire apparatus, vehicles, and equipment.
  7. Performs routine servicing and preventive maintenance tasks necessary to keep fire apparatus, vehicles, and equipment, and tools in operable condition, including pumping fuel into vehicles, checking fluid levels and replacing fluids, draining/replacing oil, changing/replacing filters, lubricating mechanical parts, rotating tires, replacing tires/belts/hoses, checking batteries, greasing equipment, flushing radiators, performing tune-ups, replacing parts, washing/cleaning equipment, cleaning shop, or emptying trash containers; properly disposes of petroleum and other regulated waste materials; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
  8. Assists in maintaining log/records of inspection, preventive maintenance work, repair activities, warranty records, and other documentation ensures compliance with recordkeeping requirements of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and other regulatory agencies.
  9. Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with repairing, maintaining, testing, or driving fire apparatus, vehicles, and equipment.
  10. Drives to and from destinations as assigned by supervisor. Responds to emergency breakdowns or makes service calls to off-site locations after hours, weekends and on holidays as needed.
  11. Research repair requirements, preventive maintenance standards, and parts requirements for a variety of fire apparatus, vehicles, and equipment.
  12. Communicates with supervisor, co-workers, dealers, vendors/service providers, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
  13. Maintains an awareness of new parts, procedures, trends, and advances in the profession: reads professional literature; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
  14. Available to perform emergency repair work after hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  15. Complies with all written City policies and procedures.
  16. Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures.
  17. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - OBTAINED THROUGH PIERCE MANUFACTURING
Chassis Electrical - Understand the location and function of (non-multiplex) electrical systems and components used on Pierce® chassis.
Command Zone™ Systems - Get detailed instruction on the Pierce Command Zone™ electrical systems including the new Command Zone III.
Preventative Maintenance - Become an expert in preventive maintenance procedures required for fire apparatus based on NFPA and DOT Standards.
TAK-4® Suspension Maintenance - Learn the basic design and principles of the TAK-4® Independent Front Suspension system, including proper maintenance and repair.
SRP/Frontal Protection - Get expert instruction on the installation, repair, and troubleshooting of the SRP/FIP system.
Air Conditioning Systems - Get the basics on repairs, troubleshooting and maintenance needs of Pierce installed components.
Aerial Maintenance - Understand the proper repair and maintenance of Pierce aerial ladders and platforms.
Pierce PUC™ Pump Maintenance - Learn the basic principles of operation, maintenance and complete disassembly of the REPTO driven water pump and gearbox.
Air Brakes, ESC, ABS Troubleshooting - Learn basic air brake theory and proper repair and maintenance procedures on chassis air brake systems.
Ascendant Mid Mount - This course is designed to instruct the student on the proper repair and maintenance of Ascendant Class 100' Aerial tower by using both classroom and hands-on Training.
TAK-4 T3 - The one-day TAK-4® T3 maintenance class will cover the proper maintenance and troubleshooting of the T3 features.
Tiller Aerial Maintenance - This course is designed to instruct student on the proper repair and maintenance of the Pierce® Tiller Aerial ladders, by using both classroom and hands-on training.
Emergency Vehicle Technician certifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Knowledge of a specialized field (however acquired), such as basic accounting, computer, etc. Equivalent of four years in high school, plus night, trade extension, or correspondence school specialized training, equal to two years of education, plus 5 years related experience and/or training.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to utilize common sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature.
