In this role, you will design, develop, and test new features, as well as resolve software defects. You will collaborate directly with flight crews across our customer base, as well as the product team, to deliver high-quality, timely solutions in alignment with our quality standards and product roadmap. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, maintain, and test efficient, high-quality aircraft performance software, including:

  • Digitizing loosely structured data from aircraft flight and performance manuals, with a focus on increasing automation.

  • Developing and maintaining aircraft performance logic algorithms.

  • Designing output formats tailored to flight crew and aircraft operational requirements.

  • Create comprehensive test plans and leverage automated testing tools where applicable.

  • Collaborate proactively with cross-functional teams to ensure product deliverables align with roadmap priorities and technical requirements.

  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of software specifications, design documentation, and test development artifacts.

  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in both commercial and military aircraft performance domains.

  • Engage directly with customers to ensure products meet their operational needs and performance expectations.

  • Familiarity with fundamental low-speed aircraft performance principles.

  • Understanding of basic weight and balance concepts, particularly as they apply to military or civilian aircraft operations (e.g., FAR Part 121 compliance).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in an engineering discipline, aerospace engineering highly preferred.

  • 0-2 years of related experiencewhich may include academic coursework, personal or group projects, internships, or other related activities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • ?Experience programming with C# or Python preferred.

  • Familiarity with cross-platform mobile development frameworks such as .NET MAUI.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Aerospace Engineer with demonstrated experience providing air/space craft or propulsion system design, integration and test support for aviation platforms. This position will be based out of Huntsville, AL and will report to the Principal Systems Engineer for Yulista Solutions, LLC.

+ Perform multi-area in-line Quality Engineering tasks for criticalspace flightEVA and hardware to establish and/or assign government mandatory inspection points (GMIPs).

+ Complete all necessary GFE QE training/certification curriculum, and once certified, serve as mentor to other GFE QE personnel during their on-the-job training.
+ Pursue certification in the secondary discipline of EVA Safety, and complete all necessary training/certification curriculum. Once completed, the GFE QE would be considered "cross-trained" in EVA Safety and may be asked on occasions to perform tasks such as EVA/EMU hazard and FMEA/CIL review, EVA console support, EVA/EMU anomaly support, and EVA/EMU hardware design review support.

JOB TITLE: AEROSPACE ENGINEER III

DEPARTMENT:AEROSPACE ENGINEERING

REPORTS TO:SENIOR AEROSPACE ENGINEER

CLASSIFICATION: EXEMPT

PRIMARY FUNCTION

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Aerospace Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for UAV design from sketch to prototype and production, including payload integrations and modifications. This role requires a strong background in aerospace engineering, project management, and a commitment to innovation and excellence.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design and development of aerospace systems, including aircraft, and related components.
  • Conduct detailed analysis and simulations to ensure the performance, reliability, and safety of systems.
  • Oversee the testing and validation of aerospace systems, including flight testing and other methods.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and software engineers, to ensure seamless integration of systems.
  • Manage and mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and support to foster their professional growth.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and user manuals.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in aerospace engineering.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, such as FAA, EASA, and NASA requirements.
  • Prepare and present technical reports to stakeholders, including senior management and clients.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering processes and tools.
  • Perform other duties as necessary and/or required.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in aerospace engineering, with a focus on design and development.
  • Proficiency in engineering software tools, such as CAD, FEA, and CFD.
  • Strong understanding of autopilots and methods for flight tuning.
  • Strong understanding of aerospace materials, structures, and propulsion systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with project management and leadership is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations, such as FAA, EASA, and NASA requirements.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position will require travel to support testing and integration activities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Aerospace Engineer with AMERICAN SYSTEMS you will have the opportunity to do the following:
    Be the engineering lead in support of flight control system development; aircraft modeling and simulation; analysis of aircraft flight dynamics; and ground and flight test support.
  • Design, development, integration, and test of aircraft flight control systems and autopilots
  • Develop, integrate, and validate models of aircraft flight dynamics and subsystems such as payloads, engines, transmissions, flight control components, and sensors
  • Support lab, ground, and flight qualification testing of aircraft avionics, sensors, and flight control systems
  • Mentor more junior engineers
Qualifications
  • Active or the ability to obtain a SECRET security clearance after hiring (requires US Citizenship)
  • U.S. Citizenship Required for the purposes of obtaining/holding a U.S. security clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering
  • At least 7 years of experience to include development and/or refinement of flight dynamics models; work with flight test data to include flight test support and flight data analysis, and/or familiarity with aircraft performance, aerodynamic design, non-linear system identification, and flight control system design and analysis.
  • Excellent documentation and report writing skills are essential for this position.
  • Knowledge of sound engineering practices that may include such areas as requirement tracking, configuration control, technical communication, and/or the peer review process.


Pay Transparency Statement

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $91,600.00/Yr. - USD $153,000.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law. Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical leadership in the design, analysis, testing, and integration of hypersonic systems, including glide vehicles, boosters, guidance/navigation, and thermal protection systems.
  • Support systems engineering activities such as requirements definition, risk management, interface control, and verification/validation (V&V).
  • Review and evaluate contractor technical proposals, system designs, and test plans for compliance with performance, safety, and reliability standards.
  • Lead or support flight test planning, execution, and data analysis.
  • Contribute to technology maturation plans, modeling and simulation activities, and digital engineering initiatives.
  • Prepare technical reports, briefings, and documentation for senior stakeholders and decision-makers.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide SME input across multidisciplinary domains.
Required Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship and active Secret clearance (TS/SCI preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field; Master's or Ph.D. preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience, including 5 years in hypersonics, missile systems, or advanced weapon development.
  • Strong understanding of high-speed aerodynamics, thermal management, and materials engineering for extreme environments.
  • Familiarity with DoD acquisition processes, test and evaluation protocols, and system development lifecycles.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience supporting Navy, DARPA, or OSD-led hypersonic initiatives.
  • Experience with digital engineering tools such as Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), ANSYS, MATLAB, or CFD tools.
  • Knowledge of Navy-specific mission requirements and platforms.
