The AMS Laboratory Instructional Specialist (LIS) plays a key role in supporting the instructional and operational needs of the Aviation Maintenance Science (AMS) Department, particularly within the FAA-approved Part 147 Airframe and Powerplant program. This position is responsible for the maintenance, modification, and fabrication of aircraft systems, training aids, and instructional equipment used throughout the curriculum.
Primary responsibilities include performing periodic maintenance and inspections on departmental aircraft, managing and tracking aircraft discrepancies and ensuring timely and accurate repairs. The LIS will also oversee the routine maintenance and troubleshooting of the department's reciprocating and turbine engine test stands, including addressing any mechanical discrepancies to ensure functionality and instructional readiness.
In collaboration with faculty, the LIS will help supervise student employees who are engaged in course-related projects, ensuring that all work aligns with safety standards and educational objectives. The LIS may also be called upon to provide supplemental supervision during lab sessions, particularly in situations requiring heightened safety oversight or technical support.
Instructional Support: As part of their responsibilities, the LIS will assist with instruction in a minimum of one AMS course within the Part 147 curriculum. This may include supporting classroom activities, helping prepare instructional materials, reinforcing course content in alignment with FAA and institutional standards, and contributing to the assessment of student performance.
This position requires a strong technical background in aviation maintenance, a commitment to safety and student learning, and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in a dynamic and hands-on educational environment.

V2X is looking for an Aircraft Machinist for our Repair Shop in Madison, MS. The skilled Machinist will machine/repair aircraft components. In this role, working under the direction of a supervisor and/or experienced machinist, the Machinist will be responsible for interpreting drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements. Responsible for machining parts to specific tolerances using manual lathes, vertical mills, grinders, as well as other associated pieces of equipment. Responsible for boring and machining holes to close tolerances. Aligning and securing holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines. Verifying conformance of finished work-piece to specifications using measuring and inspection tools as necessary. Selecting the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work. Performing routine maintenance tasks on machines as required. Maintaining a clean and organized work area and maintaining all equipment, to like new appearance, according to maintenance plans and established procedures.
Qualifications/requirements: The qualified candidate for this role must have a high school diploma or equivalent, and a certificate of training in machining from a technical trade school or program. A minimum of 2 years directly related and verifiable experience is also required. Additionally, the qualified candidate must have a general knowledge of estimating time and materials for machine jobs; metals and the quality and machinability and uses of metals and other materials; and machines and tools, including their design, uses, repair and maintenance. Required skills include: ability to skillfully operate typical machine shop equipment as well as hand and power tools; knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments; ability to read drawings and specification with an understanding of tolerance and dimensions; knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts, and other accessories used on various machines; ability to communicate in English and be able to follow written and oral job-related instructions; and ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
The position is under oversight by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and requires personnel to participate in an associated drug and alcohol testing program. Physical Demands and Work Environment: Ability to move or transfer materials with an overhead crane. Ability to lift 50 lbs. when required. While performing the duties of the job, the incumbent of the position is regularly required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The work environment characteristics described are representative of those and the incumbent of the position encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.
