Alpha Omega is actively looking to fill a position with the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) Data Stewardship Division (DSD). This division works in partnership with NOAA and the broader community to develop and maintain a robust and efficient infrastructure of hardware, software, and processes to support the ingest, long-term preservation, and delivery of environmental data products spanning the depths of the ocean to the surface of the sun.
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Software Developer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will collaborate with test engineers, software developers, and data analysts to ensure the availability and integrity of geospatially referenced meteorological, climatological, space, and environmental data in various electronic formats for customers worldwide. If you have a passion for scientific data stewardship and are eager to contribute to critical projects in environmental information preservation and dissemination, we encourage you to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support the enhancement of NOAA's scientific data search, discovery, and access systems through the scripting of automation tasks, primarily in Python.
* Collaborate with software developers and metadata specialists, adhering to NCEI and NOAA processes and agile best practices.
* Participate in all phases of development, from requirements gathering and analysis to implementation, utilizing Agile methodologies.
* Understand, edit, and improve the processes of generating, validating, and indexing data granules for NOAA's environmental data catalogs.
* Work closely with science specialists to ensure data accuracy and proper representation in data catalogs.
* Communicate project requirements effectively to developers and subject matter experts.
* Debug and improve existing project codebase for new use cases (primarily Python with some Bash).
* Participate in the peer review process for code created by other developers.
* Assist fellow team members on cross functional tasking.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- BS/BA degree (or equivalent). A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related scientific field is preferred.
- Experience/Skills:
- 2 to 4 years of experience in a related field.
- Proven experience as a software developer, capable of working collaboratively with team members and stakeholders across various geographical locations.
- Experience with standard application programming interfaces (APIs) and protocols such as REST.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established processes to plan and support multiple projects.
- Familiarity with technical tools and system architecture across various platforms.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate and convey project requirements clearly.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies.
- Proficiency in Python and Bash scripting.
- Experience with XML and JSON data formats.
- Experience working on either Unix or Linux platforms via Windows.
- Familiarity with version control systems (Git, SVN, Bitbucket, etc.) in a team environment.
- Experience using the Google G-Suite applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Atlassian Jira and Confluence
- Experience participating in sprint and code reviews

Salary and Benefit Information:
The likely salary range for this position is $62,000- $5,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position and could fall outside of this range.

JOB TITLE:
Office Associate, Senior
JOB PURPOSE:
Perform complex administrative support tasks with discretionary authority; independently make decisions which substantially impact operations within the department. Serve as the department's front line customer service contact, helping students, faculty, staff, research associates, adjunct, donors, and varied constituents. Administratively supervise comprehensive office operations for undergraduate programs and graduate students in master's and doctoral programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide administrative support for the undergraduate programs of the Department. Work with the department head, and independently, oversee all administrative aspects of the undergraduate programs in the Department including, but not limited to, schedule undergraduate courses, assign rooms and upload them into Banner, prepare and edit information for the general bulletin, develop needed administrative tools to further streamline Department undergraduate program processes, update and track student performance metrics as designated by Department Head; collect and analyze data needed for ABET accreditation. Work closely with the Undergraduate coordinator and the CEAS Center for Student Success as needed for undergraduate programs and academic advising.
- Provide administrative support for the graduate programs of the Department. With very limited guidance from the graduate coordinator, oversee all administrative aspects of the graduate programs in the Department including, but not limited to, process applications, prepare acceptance/denial documents, communicate information to incoming students, track the progress of all students, interact with the Registrar to solve problems, maintain all Department student records, prepare and edit information for the general bulletin, schedule graduate courses, assign rooms and upload them into Banner, maintain a complex database of all graduate student records, and develop needed administrative tools to further streamline Department graduate program processes. Serve as liaison between students, faculty, Academic Affairs, International Students Office, etc.; and maintain database of graduate student metrics as directed by the Department Head.
- Oversee the Department's office operations. Under very limited supervision, administratively oversee the department's office operations, insuring exemplary customer service, problem resolution and intra-departmental communication. Provide administrative support to the annual reappointment, tenure, and promotion process and annual faculty review process, and administrative support for faculty searches. Hire, train, and supervise student workers in the department.
- Provide administrative support for the Department leadership. Anticipate and meet the needs of the Department head, associate head, graduate coordinator, and committee chairs for administrative information including, but not limited to, prepare and process administrative documents, schedule and organize advisory board meetings, maintain a database of advisory board members, prepare minutes from faculty and advisory board meetings, maintaining a donor database and prepare receipt/thank you letters, manage the distribution, collection and preparation of teaching evaluations, coordinate website maintenance, and coordinate with College personnel as needed.
- Provide administrative support for the Department physical plant. Under very limited supervision, manage the non-laboratory physical plant for the department including, but not limited to, managing room assignments for faculty, staff and students, coordinate office maintenance and painting, identifying office equipment needs. Coordinate laboratory physical plant needs of the department with faculty.
- Assist with special projects as needed. Responsible for researching, developing and finalizing reports/surveys to the Dean's Office, administration and outside agencies. Serve on College and University committees as appropriate.
