**The Role**
Lumen is looking for a Senior Engineer with demonstrated expertise in technical writing and documentation. This role demands a strong command of written communication, especially in developing Methods & Procedures (M&Ps), and detailed technical job aides. The ideal candidate brings precision, clarity, and an ability to translate complex engineering processes into comprehensive, actionable documentation.
This role involves extensive inside plant activities, requiring hands-on expertise in high-performance network systems. Responsibilities include performing site surveys to assess infrastructure readiness; installing, provisioning, and commissioning equipment; and executing turnup and testing of advanced networking technologies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical knowledge of DWDM systems, Packet Optical Transport Networks (OTN), SONET architecture, and router environments. Success in this role requires a combination of sharp analytical judgment, strong documentation habits, precision, and practical engineering experience within compliance-driven federal programs.
**The Main Responsibilities**
-Create and maintain clear, scalable technical documentation tailored for federal environments, including:
Standardized Workflows
Methods & Procedures (M&Ps)
Technician-friendly Job Aides
-Develop diagrams, schematics, and equipment layouts using tools such as Microsoft Visio
-Perform detailed site surveys to evaluate infrastructure conditions and project feasibility
-Produce Engineering Design Packages (EDPs) for inside plant (ISP) installations, ensuring alignment with Lumen's technical proposal standards and federal requirements
-Ensure documents are updated post-deployment and reflect "as-built" conditions
-Collaborate with federal stakeholders, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to translate mission requirements into technical solutions
-Conduct comprehensive testing of DS-3, OC-3, OC-12, OC-48, and OC-192 circuits using Bit Error Rate Testers (BERTs), Optical Time-Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs), Optical Power Meters, and other precision optical test equipment
-Ability to execute turnup and testing of DWDM systems, Packet Optical Transport Networks (OTN), SONET platforms, and high-performance router networks
Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
-Expert-level technical writing skills with ability to develop and edit clear, comprehensive documentation
-Proficiency in using documentation tools such as Microsoft Word, Visio, Excel, and diagramming software for technical schematics and procedural guides
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially in collaborating across remote and on-site teams.
-Excellent project coordination and multitasking abilities in fast-paced field environments
-Familiarity with DWDM, SONET, OTN, and packet optical transport systems
-Demonstrated hands-on experience with Inside Plant (ISP) provisioning, testing, and turn-up
-Ability to interpret and apply engineering standards, perform federal guidelines, and network design principles using alternative analysis, and sound judgement

Education and Experience
-Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience (8+ years in telecommunications operations & maintenance, installation, and engineering)
-Skilled in creating and revising Engineering Design Plans (EDPs) and As-Built drawings
-Strong understanding of telecommunications installation standards
-Experienced in using telecommunications test equipment, with comprehensive knowledge of testing operations, procedures, and best practices
- Willingness to travel up to 75% across the continental U.S.
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass federal security screening

**Compensation**
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

$82,969 - $10,625 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.

This Senior consultant will serve as the primary point of contact for providing expert advice, assistance, and guidance to support a major ERP Migration project and ensure all project requirements are met. The Sr. Consultant will lead the work with the support of the project team to provide Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) services to the ERP migration project. Direct responsibility for the system and stage gate level assessment deliverables and work products produced along with the team. These deliverables and work products will be completed in accordance with our practice area's overall strategy, approach, and methodology. The consultant ensures all assessments and deliverables are high-quality and comprehensive, providing meaningful insights into the ERP Migration project in all dimensions. The consultant must be in SC, GA, or NC.
Broad experience in selected industries (e.g., healthcare, finance, education, etc.), technical competencies (e.g., technical writing, cloud/SaaS services, industry-leading ERP software products ), and management approaches (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) are required.
