This is a year round part time position. Fall shifts begin as soon as August 25 and ideally continue working throughout the academic year winter, spring, and summer semesters. Center is closed for approximately two weeks over winter break.
General Purpose : Under the direction of the Children's Center Food Services Supervisor and Assistant, assists in all aspects of providing breakfast, lunch, and/or afternoon snack for up to 200 children a day.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Dependent upon schedule, sets up and prepares breakfast, lunch and/or afternoon snack
- Washes, dries and puts away all dishes used in the preparation, eating and serving of the meal
- Maintains the cleanliness and neatness of the kitchen area to include sinks, cupboards, oven, refrigerator, floors, etc.
- Maintains inventory of foods and supplies
- Maintains records of food/milk served and returned daily
- Monitors food deliveries
- Posts quantities of milk returned on the milk chart daily
- Follows through with regular cleaning and maintenance schedules as posted or directed by coordinators
- Applies and maintains appropriate health and safety standards in the kitchen
- Alerts coordinators to equipment that fails to meet the standards for safety as outlined in the food handlers training
Customer Service and Collaboration
- Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with various A.S. and University departments
Safety
- Ensures all operations are conducted with the safety of staff and customers as first priority, and in accordance with the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and other safety policies
- Adheres to Associated Students' and Children's Center Codes of Safe Practice
- Reports accidents to supervisor and reviews changes required to avoid reoccurrence. Ensures completion of proper documentation is completed for each accident (employee and/or non-employee) and forwards to supervisor
- Reports maintenance problems and/or broken and unsafe equipment to the appropriate party immediately
Job Requirements
Minimum & Preferred Requirements
Education: Must be currently enrolled at San Diego State University, taking a minimum of 6 units
Experience: Experience in food service preferred but not required
The following items are required for employment at childcare establishments:
- FBI, DOB, and Child Abuse Index fingerprint clearance
- TB clearance, current Health Screening and up to date immunizations
- Beginning in January 1, 2018, Health and Safety code 1596.8662 requires all licensed providers, applicants, directors and employees to complete training as specified on their mandated reporter duties and to renew their training every two years
- Certificate of completion of the Mandated Reporter training AB1207 and must be renewed every two years. This online training can be completed and accessed at

Schedule & Working Conditions
This is a year-round part-time position. Hiring for Fall shifts will be completed in November and December. Staff orientations are scheduled in mid-August prior to shifts beginning in August 25th.
Regular scheduled shifts are MWF or TTh schedule between 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Mandatory staff training is held Friday from 4:00-5:30 once a month.

Company Overview: Our client is an excellent facility for providing support and a way of recovery for drug addiction.
Position Summary: This position works under close supervision according to set procedures for kitchen jobs and service tasks. The successful candidate shall have relevant kitchen experience with food handler certification or ServSafe.
Availability to work: Monday to Friday, 9:30 am - 5:30 pm. Weekends are open as well.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Uses recipes and job knowledge to prepare foods, vegetables, meats, and beverages for various meals, giving due care to achieve high-quality taste and appearance.
- Uses portion control and the loading of food carts or steam trays for serving.
- Assists in checking orders received for proper price and weight and satisfactory quality.
- Assists with cleaning stoves, cookers, kettles, pots and pans, dishes, refrigerators, food grinders, mixers, tables, kitchen utensils, and other kitchen areas to meet sanitation standards.
- Serves food to clients or County staff.
- Re-stocks supplies and assists with organizing any requested food and non-food related items.
- May participate in conducting client food satisfaction surveys.
- Prepares simple reports; completes forms.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- To be considered for the role, a background check and drug test will be conducted. There is no payment required for these assessments.
- Must be a high school graduate or have earned a General Education Diploma (GED).
- Requires a minimum of 1 year of experience in cooking, food preparation, handling, storage, and kitchen sanitation or closely related experience preferably in a large-scale food preparation facility.
- Performs medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing, and raising objects.
- Involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
- Able to lift 25 pounds on a regular basis.
