We are seeking a Chief Executive Officer to lead our team at San Joaquin Valley Rehabilitation Hospital, located in Fresno, CA. This 62-bed acute rehab hospital offers rehabilitative services to patients recovering from injuries or illnesses, helping them regain independence.

San Joaquin Valley Rehabilitation Hospital is a specialized facility that provides the following services: rehab of physical and cognitive abilities, family engagement, and a fast‑paced, friendly work environment.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver quality care to patients, develop new business opportunities, supervise staff, and control financial performance.
  • Balance day‑to‑day operational issues with strategic development initiatives to position the hospital for sustained growth.
Required Skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. A combination of academic, clinical, and operational experience may be considered.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in healthcare administration/management with operations, HR, and/or finance experience.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, CMS, and Joint Commission regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated track record of financial success and exemplary clinical care.

How you’ll contribute

A Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who excels in this role:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership within the organization, including guidance and direction to achieve clinical and financial goals
  • Design, develop and implement a strategic plan focused on clinical excellence, financial performance and market development in collaboration with the Board of Managers
  • Create and maintain operational controls, reporting procedures and systems to meet the goals of the organization
  • Oversee the financial structure and results of the organization, taking corrective actions as needed
  • Motivate and lead a high-performance management team; recruit and retain required team members, including physicians, and provide mentoring
  • Manage contracts and relationships with service providers and agreements, as appropriate
  • Ensure activities comply with local, state and federal regulations, Joint Commission standards, CARF and other rehab accreditations, and the Hospital Compliance Plan

What we’re looking for
  • 5 years of successful healthcare management experience, preferably as hospital/healthcare facility CEO/COO
  • Rehabilitation hospital experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in Business, Healthcare Operations/Management or a clinical discipline
  • Knowledge of Med-Surg hospitals and systems (for profit and non-profit) is a plus
  • Passion for superior clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction and partner relationships

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the key leadership position within Ability Housing providing holistic leadership for the organizations’ triple bottom line: high-quality supportive housing for residents, organizational sustainability in a healthy workplace environment, and performance of the real estate portfolio. Key roles include but are not limited to:

Strategy
  • Works with board of directors and leadership team to develop and implement the agency’s strategy including considerations of sustainable quality, growth, risk, and stability
  • Consistently considers and evaluates projects, needs, and environmental changes that may occur five to ten years in the future
  • Develops and maintains contingency strategies to adjust operational activities when needed

Cultivates Key Relationships

  • Acts as the principal public relations officer, representing the organization, generating community awareness, and building collaborative stakeholder relationships
  • Cultivates and sustains strategic relationships with elected and administrative policy makers, major customers, governmental agencies, and financial entities
  • Strives for relationships to be collaborative and mutually beneficial first, but able to tactfully maintain mission-critical positions when needed
  • Cultivates relationships with major funders that focus on high-level, strategic, and long‑term goals and issues
  • Coordinates with the fund development team and is personally involved with major funding requests
Operational Guidance and Accountability

  • Works with the leadership team to refine or develop critical measures of performance and risk, and uses these to proactively monitor, improve, protect, and, if needed, correct, the organization’s performance with clients, internally, and in the real estate portfolio
  • Holds accountability for overall organizational coordination and performance
People and Culture
  • Builds a strong team that works well together and has coordinated and complementary expertise
  • Ensures consistent implementation of trauma‑informed values and practices at every level of the team—from community‑facing roles to leadership positions
  • Establishes and maintains effective communications throughout the organization
  • Evaluates and, if needed, improves the organization structure for a healthy and productive workplace

The CEO must possess a broad and flexible range of leadership and management competencies including but not limited to the following.

  • Build, develop, motivate, and delegate to high performing teams

Experience and Education

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of executive leadership and managerial experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting
  • Minimum of 10 years building and leading teams
  • Minimum of 10 years financial experience including budgeting, monitoring performance, cash flow analysis, risk analysis, and scenario planning, preferably in a nonprofit setting
  • Experience working with governmental agencies and funding is preferred
  • Experience in supportive housing is preferred
  • Experience with land acquisition, development and construction of multi‑family properties is preferred
  • Experience with financing for multi‑family development for less‑than‑market‑rate housing is preferred

Education
Minimum of bachelor's degree in business administration, non‑profit management, or other related field. Master's degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs daily rounds on nursing floor, communicating with patients, families and staff.
  • Complies with regulatory obligations and possesses ownership of the Complaint-Grievance Process.
  • Ensures hospital’s overall compliance with State, Federal, and JCAHO regulations.
  • Focuses on employee engagement.
  • Personally creates, continually cultivates and owns a Top 10 Key Business Development Relationship list.
  • Knows, understands and effectively implements the Corporate Case Management and PPS Model.
  • Prepares an Annual Operating Budget, a 3 year Capital Budget and a Strategic Plan that is presented and approved by the Governing Board.
  • Maintains a high ethical standard. Consistently behaves in a professional and ethical manner, adhering to all policies related. Meets and abides by all compliance, HIPAA and professional standards.
