Job Summary and Description:
The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) launched Data Driven Decision Making (3DM) in 2019. 3DM is an EPRI nuclear sector Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiative aimed at accelerating the deployment of AI in the nuclear sector. EPRI is looking for a Technical Leader/Data Scientist to support the implementation of the vision of 3DM from an organizational and technical perspective.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting efforts to communicate the research results from the 3DM initiative including organizing meetings/conferences, collaborating with staff across EPRI to facilitate project execution, and bringing value to EPRI's members and the public.
- Being a technical expert for both traditional and generative AI projects
- The ideal candidate possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills and is able to work with a wide range of people with varying backgrounds and expertise.
- They will be able to effectively manage time and identify and prioritize the most critical near-term and long-term objectives and make progress across multiple projects.
- Experience in machine learning (deep learning/neural networks, supervised/unsupervised/reinforcement learning), time-series analysis, image recognition, statistical methods, etc. and generative AI (large language models, agents, computer vision models, diffusion models, etc.)
- Desired 5 + years of experience building models with one or more of the following code languages: Python, R, SQL, MATLAB, including the data science/machine learning toolkits.
- Preference for Python
- Experience using both cloud-based and on premise models, especially with guidance and/or management on the transition from proof of concept to deployment.
- Experience with the electric power industry (generation, transmission/distribution, or energy utilization) in areas such as asset management, digital twins, etc. as well as experience collaborating with top AI/ML researchers and institutions
- Ability to prepare and present technical information clearly to a wide range of stakeholders for publications and meetings/conferences/workshops including a track record of presenting at influential AI conferences (e.g., AAAI, ICML, NeurIPS, etc.) and publications in high-impact journals.
- Support the planning, preparation, and organization of technical conferences and workshops.
- Passion and excitement for artificial intelligence with a strong desire to learn more, develop tools and technologies to advance the current state of AI/ML, and make a positive impact on society.
- Understanding of data governance processes to facilitate proper data usage and sharing. Ability to work within the data governance framework to support data sharing between utilities and the AI community.
- Travel is between 20-30% of time, mostly US domestic, with the opportunity for international travel 1-2 times per year.
- Bachelor's Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience required

The salary range for this position is $120,000 USD to $135,000 USD annually.
This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
This role is eligible to participate in EPRI's annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.
This role is eligible to participate in EPRI's standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD/LTD and paid family leave, life and accident insurance, paid time off (flexible vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay).

The Dynamic Decision-Making Laboratory ( ) at Carnegie Mellon University, has a new post-doctoral position available to start between May-August 2025. This is a full-time research position with full benefits, for one year with the possibility of renewal for one additional year conditional on research performance and availability of funds.
A new post-doctoral fellow will support the lab's projects on Human-AI Teaming or Behavioral Cybersecurity. Generally, the post-doctoral fellow must be technically capable in either of these two areas or both. The fellow must be ready to conduct research involving construction of research games or microworlds, conduct laboratory studies, and construct computational cognitive models including paradigms in Cognitive Science (Instance-Based Learning models) or AI (Reinforcement Learning).
The fellow will explore many issues of interest to cognitive science, computational cognitive modeling, decision science, and AI. For example, in the context of Behavioral Cybersecurity we investigate behavioral Game Theoretic algorithms of defense, and how those can/should be modified to account for human attacker's biases. To accomplish this goal, we study attacker's behavior and create cognitive computational models of the attacker's decisions. These models can serve to predict biases and measure cognitive biases to improve defense algorithms.
**Core Responsibilities**
The post-doctoral fellow will need to be familiar with
+ Experimental research and with cognitive computational modeling. The fellow will be involved in the design and implementation of interactive web-based experimental studies and the use of existent high-fidelity games or cyber-ranges in the case of behavioral cybersecurity (i.e., CyberVAN).
+ Development of computational models of individual and collective behavior, paying special attention to cognitive modeling methods in cognitive science such as cognitive architectures, Instance-Based Learning models and Reinforcement Learning.
