Essential Skills

Your Opportunity
Stantec's New England Transportation group has an immediate need for a highly motivated Senior Transportation Design Manager with 15+ years of experience working on mid-size to large roadway/highway/bridge design projects. This position is flexible between our Burlington MA office and remote work. Your Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to initiatives to help advance our project design, operations, and business development
- Maintain and enhance our reputation with clients, approval agencies and industry professionals as an outstanding service provider
- Establish project objectives, procedures, and performance standards
- Lead multi-disciplinary teams on projects from positioning to proposals, planning studies, feasibility through final designs, and construction services

**Primary Responsibilities:**
+ Provide engineering support for roadway/transportation related projects
+ Assist in the planning, design, and construction administration of projects
+ Complete feasibility studies and technical design reports
+ Coordinate roadway design project plans with associated utilities
+ Demonstrate eagerness to learn new areas of engineering
**Required Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field (We are considering May 2026 graduates)
+ Familiarity with or previous experience using MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCAD/Civil3D software for design and drafting tasks
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
+ Completion of an engineering internship or other professional employment providing experience in surveying, transportation design, MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer, and/or construction observation

This opportunity entails being responsible for the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This position consults with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design and delivery. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. Leverages technical knowledge and experience to address design related issues or concerns, working closely with the project manager through creative problem solving, interactions with clients and by completing tasks to meet the project schedule. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project completion using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software. May mentor, train and review work of junior engineer staff and provide constructive feedback. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB's clients
**What You'll Do:**
+ Responsible for the planning and distribution of discipline-specific work, and adherence to the schedule and budget on projects.
+ Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
+ Assists with the development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignments within discipline.
+ Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team's work within the technical discipline. Guides and mentors team to overall project objectives.
+ Coordinates technical aspects of project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline.
+ Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
**What You'll Need:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or
+ Master's degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or
+ PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience

+ Served as task lead on transportation infrastructure projects, overseeing plan development from concept through final design.
+ Coordinated with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project milestones and deliverables are met on time and within budget.
+ Mentored and supported junior engineers and designers, fostering technical growth and collaboration.
+ Prepared and reviewed engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates in accordance with GDOT standards and procedures.
+ Utilized OpenRoads Designer for roadway design, modeling, and plan production.
+ Communicates effectively with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to ensure alignment on project goals and expectations.
+ Supported project managers with technical input, quality control, and client presentations as needed.
**What We Prefer:**
+ 4 years with GDOT experience
+ Professional Engineer (PE) certification
+ Active involvement in professional organizations (e.g., ASHE, ASCE, ITE).

**Job Description**
Join AECOM's Highway / Transportation Design Team in Roanoke, VA as a Civil Engineer - Transportation Design role. In this role the appropriate qualified person will work on a variety of challenging and interesting projects. Projects range from roadway and drainage design, highway and bridge projects, traffic engineering analysis, and transportation planning studies.
**The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:**
+ Develop design criteria, roadway geometry, traffic control, and signing and pavement markings, drainage systems, stormwater management.
+ Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for transportation projects.
+ Develop technical reports, tables, and graphics per client and/or internal AECOM standards.
+ Perform engineering calculations and analyses to support project designs and ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
+ Adhere to and promote AECOM quality procedures.
+ Conduct site visits and field investigations to gather data and assess existing conditions.
+ Prepare presentations that explain technical findings, recommendations, and limitations.
+ Work collaboratively as part of a larger design team to proactively meet the client's scope, budget, and schedule through ethical and responsible decision making.
+ Provide support to AECOM project managers and department managers

+ Demonstrated experience using Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or similar design highway or transportation design applications
**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:**
+ Design experience with VDOT projects
+ Experience in civil engineering with an emphasis on Roadway, Drainage, and Traffic projects
+ Ability and willingness to offer mentorship to various levels of staff
+ Ability and willingness to operate within a hybrid work schedule environment with hybrid teams
+ Professional Engineer (PE) License in any state, or ability to obtain PE within 1 year of hire
