Requirements

The Design Engineer Position works with the Sales, Estimating, and Construction teams to Design, Build, and Commission Photovoltaic projects that are Cost Efficient, Meet Energy Production Requirements, and will last 20+ years. The engineer must be proficient in various PV design software and be able to create system layouts, size wire/conduits, select appropriate circuit protection, and integrate data monitoring systems into the design.
Essential Functions:
- Model, promote, reinforce, and reward the consistent use of HOLT's Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
- Prepare Project Drawings in CAD that include Site Layout, Line Diagrams, Equipment Selection, Module Stringing, Data Monitoring, Labels, Datasheets, etc. to get through the Pricing, Permitting, Construction, and Commissioning phases of the project
- Utilize a wide variety of equipment manufacturers to develop PV Projects including but not limited to: Ground Mount, Rooftop, Single Axis Tracker, Carports, Floating Arrays, etc.
- Coordinate with structural and electrical engineers and other professionals to develop stamped drawings
- Work with various AHJs, Utilities, or Federal entities to coordinate interconnection applications, permitting process, and inspections
- Efficient with the standard calculations/formulas required for PV Design such as Module String Sizing, Wire/Conduit Sizing, Voltage Drop, and Circuit Protection Sizing
- Efficient in time management while handling multiple projects simultaneously in different stages of development while working in the office or in remote situations
- Professionally interact with customers to manage their expectations/goals and present the details of the project
- Works safely always and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Basic PV Design experience using Auto-CAD, Helioscope, Sketchup, PVSyst
- Basic knowledge of standards including NEC, UL/IEC, IEEE, and building codes
- Strong computer skills using Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom
- Basic knowledge of testing equipment like Voltmeters, I-V Curve Analyzers, Meggers, etc.
- Basic knowledge of lifting vehicles like Boom Lifts and Scissor Lifts
- Experience in areas outside of standard PV like BESS, Microgrid, EV Chargers, Medium Voltage design is a plus
- Dynamic customer facing skills to present projects, manage expectations, and build relationship to become customer's preferred PV Installer

- Work well autonomously and within a team to hit critical milestones
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to explain complex material to a range of individuals with a range of knowledge on the subject so that they can understand it
- Knowledgeable on construction/electrical codes and requirements
- Ability to create Energy Production estimates using PVSyst, SAM, or other software
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Electronics preferred, or Masters Degree a plus
- Up to four years of experience in PV Design and Installation including time spent in the field or a combination of education and experience required

· Manage technical aspects of Product Design projects from ideation/concept to launch working closing with the cross-functional team utilizing lean product development techniques

· Design expertise with plastics (injection molding), and metals (stamping and machining)
· Familiar with connector manufacturing processes including progressive die stamping, injection molding, crimping, ultrasonic welding, assembly, etc.

Generate and revise engineering drawings using CAD software, including process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), general arrangement (GA) layouts, and fabrication drawings. Interpret customer-provided documents (RFQs, specifications, P&IDs, process flow diagrams) to develop accurate design packages and equipment layouts. Participate in customer calls and internal project meetings to clarify technical requirements and contribute to design strategy. Perform basic engineering calculations to appropriately size tanks, pumps, valves, piping, and other equipment. Collect technical and commercial data needed to prepare accurate project costing, bill of materials (BOM), and quotes for custom systems. Present technical design proposals and cost estimates to customers alongside sales managers, promoting the value and feasibility of Deutsche's solution. Communicate design intent, project scope, and critical considerations to the Director of Engineering for review and alignment. Upon project award, provide complete documentation to Project Coordination for job setup, equipment ordering, and installation planning. Offer technical support to inside and outside sales staff by reviewing specifications, clarifying system functionality, and refining layouts. Coordinate with production and purchasing to confirm materials, supplier options, and manufacturability for custom solutions. Support field teams during installation and commissioning phases by conducting site visits, issuing design clarifications, and resolving installation challenges. Participate in system startup and performance validation as needed, ensuring the design meets customer expectations. Provide troubleshooting support during equipment breakdowns and coordinate corrective actions with service teams. Maintain organized engineering documentation, update drawings after changes (as-built documentation), and issue change orders as needed. Mentor and support other engineering & project management staff by sharing best practices, design standards, and technical guidance.

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field. 3-5 years of experience in equipment or system design for industrial process applications (preferably in food, beverage, or pharmaceutical manufacturing). Proficient in AutoCAD (2D required; 3D CAD and SolidWorks experience is a plus). Experience developing process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, general arrangement layouts, and fabrication drawings. Strong knowledge of fluid handling equipment such as tanks, pumps, valves, piping, and HXs. Comfortable performing basic engineering calculations including flow, pressure drop, and heat transfer. Research new materials and competitive products. Organize, coordinate, and execute building, testing, and analysis of prototypes. Assist supply specialists and buyers with supplier development and supplier performance. Oversee the efforts of drafting and testing specialists. Develop and document functional requirements and translate into detailed design documents. Participate in buy-build analysis for product components.
