**Primary Purpose of Position:**
The chemical engineer will develop technical proficiency and apply good engineering practices in assigned process areas at the Houston facility. This position will collect, analyze, and report on plant process performance and work closely with operations and maintenance on plant continuous improvement efforts.
**Principle Duties and Responsibilities:**
+ Technical Support - Routinely interfaces with operations and maintenance teams to stay current with day-to-day activities. Provides troubleshooting to address process and equipment concerns. Utilizes process data to support continuous improvement efforts.
+ Quality Management - Investigates and determines corrective actions for incidents impacting product quality. Performs scheduled process quality internal audits and presents findings. Maintains operating work instructions and procedures for designated areas. Coodinates raw material and finished product trials.
+ Project Management - Provides technical support for small capital project work in designated areas. Utilizes capital project charter to acquire necessary approvals and maintain adequate communication. Specifies necessary operating conditions. Works with the Engineering Department to design equipment according to Recognized And Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP). Measures business impact following project implementation.
+ Health, Safety, and Environmental Support - Provides technical support for accurate risk assessment of plant processes. Provides technical support for the safe handling of raw materials. Identifies and pursues actions that reduce plant environmental footprint.
**Education**
Bachelor's degree Chemical Engineering
**Experience:**
+ At least 2+ years' experience as an engineer in a chemical manufacturing process is required
+ Experience in working with multidisciplinary technical associates to achieve cost effective goals.
+ Project management experience preferred.
**Knowledge Skills and Abilities:**
+ Ability to lead and influence without direct authority.
+ Embraces collaboration and teamwork in achieving business goals and objectives.
+ Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

About the Job
As our Chemical Production Engineer, you will sustain and improve the operations of our proprietary lithium-ion battery recycling and lithium refining processes. This candidate will collaborate with the larger engineering team and various internal and external experts to ensure the successful operation of our facility. The ideal candidate will be familiar with operating large-scale and pilot-scale chemical manufacturing plants, troubleshooting and maintaining industrial process equipment and supporting overall plant uptime and throughput. The candidate will be a problem-solver and have a keen interest in operating first-in-kind process systems. This should include a constant focus on evaluating current processing steps and proposing and developing next-generation solutions to continuously improve system performance and operability. This position will report to our Chemical Process team.
Responsibilities
- Sustain 24/7 production operations by responding to and recovering malfunctioning equipment and processes.
- Support commissioning and startup activities for our first-in-kind battery recycling and lithium refining processes.
- Implement process improvement projects to improve yield, uptime, product quality, and reduce OpEx.
- Work with the operations team to author documentation including but not limited to Operating Procedures, Preventative Maintenance Plans, Spare Parts Lists etc.
- Investigate equipment and processes that are underperforming, troubleshoot and implement changes to improve OEE.
- Produce PFDs, P&IDs, Mass and Energy Balances, Equipment Specs for process changes and improvements.
- Collaborate with vendors on equipment for our pilot and commercial processes.
- Document lessons learned from commissioning and operations activities and feed this forward into our next-gen technology and commercial process designs.
- Review and update document records for the equipment systems (e.g., Equipment Data, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams, Controls Narratives, and Wiring Diagrams, loop diagrams, and layout drawings)
- Background in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical preferred)
- 3+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with troubleshooting and commissioning process equipment.
- Experience implementing data-driven improvements to operational lines (DOE, Change Management).
- Experience in Statistical Process Control (SPC), Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma.
- Experience troubleshooting safety systems for manufacturing lines.
- Experience implementing HAZOP, FMEA and other methodologies for failure analysis for new and legacy plant design & operations.
- Working knowledge of process control methodology and discrete control strategies
- Working knowledge Autodesk Software: Revit, AutoCAD and/or Navisworks.

**Responsibilities**
Berry Global Films, an affiliate of Amcor plc, seeks a Quality Chemical Engineer in Tulsa, OK.
Provide technical sales and product development support that create sustainable value for our customers. Responsible for profiling film behavior by operating multiple types of test
equipment, and developing expertise in determining film value propositions and optimal wrapping setups for assured load containment with reduced film usage. Individual will work in
partnership with Sales and Product Development personnel and is responsible for autonomous operation and management of the array of test equipment and arrangement of the facility for
the purposes of training.
As a support to the Sales Team:
- Understanding, operating and maintaining the various stretch wrapping, film characterization and load stability assessment machines.
- Assisting Sales Reps with training distributors (our primary customers) and internal Sales personnel on our various film families and how to best use our films for a competitive advantage via conducting the testing as laid out by Sales Leads.
- Competitive film testing, assessing what the threats are, determining what films we produce that match up best against them.
- Keeping the schedule of visitors, managing test request log, overseeing sample inventory.
- Surveying market for new equipment that can be of benefit in testing and requesting it.
- Preparing comparative testing reports and building presentation material.
As a support to the Product Development Team:
- Testing developmental samples and determining property/performance differences between samples.
- Preparing, overseeing and testing Material/Process qualification and consistency evaluations.
- Generating reports detailing film performance differences with technical conclusions.
- Film characterization method development and consistent interaction with test equipment manufacturers for method upgrades/learnings.
- Involvement in ISTA and other transportation associations.
As a support to Production Quality:
- Conducting method development studies for new test methods to be used for production quality assurance.
- Conducting technical complaint investigations.
Domestic travel expectation is 10-20% to Amcor Stretch Film plants and customers.
