Telecare will deliver and manage excellent services and systems of care for persons with serious mental illness.
POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Mental Health Technician provides resident care and supervision in accordance with the prescribed treatment program. This involves a focus on group leadership and resident interactions.
Qualifications
One year experience as a MHW, CNA or the equivalent is preferred. A college degree may be accepted in lieu of years of experience. Completion of the facility training programs for this classification is required. Necessary skills include knowledge of psychology or sociology, knowledge of the care of the mentally ill and the ability to interact with nursing personnel, other members of the health care team, families, clients and visitors. The incumbent must be proficient in reading, speaking and writing English. In sole judgment of management demonstrates ability to perform at a consistently high level as an MHW. Has demonstrated the ability to carry out the duties of a Mental Health Worker in a thorough and professional manner. Has also demonstrated previous leadership, interest and enthusiasm for the role of a Mental Health Worker. Applicant must be finger printed and receive clearance from Criminal Justice Department.

This job performs delegated nursing care responsibilities to Adult/Geriatric/Medical Psychiatric patients within the scope of guideline set forth by the physicians, treatment team, and other clinical staff in accordance with unit/hospital policies and procedures, and local, state, federal, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards and requirements to provide efficient individualized care.
EducationRequired - Bachelor's degree in Psychology or Sociology or related field
Work ExperienceRequired - Experience working with various computer applications (word processing, spreadsheet application and data base applications). Experience working with and maintaining confidential information. Experience with medical terminology. Experience filing-alphabetically and numerically with legible handwriting and spelling/grammar aptitude.
Preferred - Prior experience in Psychiatry
CertificationsRequired - Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)- Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
- Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard
- Good interpersonal skills
Assumes responsibility and is accountable for caring for a number of assigned patients under the direction of the primary nurse. Facilitates addiction classes, relaxation groups and other activity therapies. Verbally and in writing, communicates pertinent observations about patients and family's status and behavior to other team members. Direct concerns about improvement of unit policies or milieu structure to appropriate people. Actively seeks solutions to problems. Provides Care Based on Physical, Psycho/Social, And Educational, Safety and Related Criteria, Appropriate to the Ages of Patients, Served in Assigned Areas. Provides safe therapeutic use of restraints/crisis intervention, assisting patients in keeping environment clean and orderly when needed. Completes documentation of patient related tasks. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
