Overview

Join our team as a Data Governance Manager and lead the development and implementation of robust data governance policies, standards, and practices across our organization. Responsibilities

  • Data Governance Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive data governance framework, including policies, procedures, and standards.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Data Science, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

  • Skills: Strong understanding of data governance frameworks and best practices. Knowledge of data-related regulations and compliance requirements. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Proficiency in data governance tools and technologies. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Experience: 5-10+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or related fields. Experience managing data quality, integration, and architecture projects is preferred.

The Data Governance Lead plays a key role in leading the development and execution of the credit union's data governance strategy. This role will champion best practices in data management, drive the implementation of governance policies and standards, and ensure consistent, compliant, and secure use of data across the organization.

  • Lead the Data Governance Council, coordinating efforts across departments including Data Analytics, Information Security, Risk & Compliance, Legal, and Technology.

  • Identify gaps in current data policies, data quality, ownership, and compliance practices; drive initiatives to close those gaps.

Summary The Data Governance Risk Manager will lead the strategic implementation of data governance across the enterprise, ensuring data quality, consistency, security, and compliance. This position provides second-line risk oversight for Data Management and works cross-functionally to embed data governance best practices within the organization’s operations. What You’ll Do Develop and manage the enterprise-wide Data Management risk governance process, including creating and maintaining policies, procedures, and risk programs. Collaborate with key stakeholders, including analysts, data stewards, and management, to clarify roles and train on governance responsibilities. Educate leadership on data governance principles, delivering training and driving strategic understanding of governance value. Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements in data privacy, risk, and compliance; support enterprise-wide data transformation initiatives. Guide business units on governance-related challenges, including technology system transitions and operational changes. Resolve data governance issues and drive cross-functional cooperation through facilitation and conflict resolution. Deliver regular reports and KPIs to senior management on governance health, performance, and improvements. Serve as a key contact and internal audit support resource for all governance-related topics. What You’ll Bring Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Risk, IT, or Data Science—or equivalent combination of education and experience. 4–7 years of experience in technology/data management, with focus on risk management (7–10 years preferred). Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, regulatory standards, and enterprise data policies. Proven leadership in developing and implementing data governance structures. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Applicable data governance certification preferred or willingness to obtain within 1 year. What You'll Do This position will be located at our Corporate Office: 2355 W Pinnacle Peak Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85027 The Data Governance Lead plays a key role in leading the development and execution of the credit union's data governance strategy. This role will champion best practices in data management, drive the implementation of governance policies and standards, and ensure consistent, compliant, and secure use of data across the organization. Lead the Data Governance Council, coordinating efforts across departments including Data Analytics, Information Security, Risk & Compliance, Legal, and Technology. Develop and implement data governance policies, standards, and procedures to ensure data accuracy, consistency, security, and accessibility. Identify gaps in current data policies, data quality, ownership, and compliance practices; drive initiatives to close those gaps. Partner with Risk, Compliance and Legal to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal risk frameworks. Collaborate with Data and Infrastructure teams to evaluate and implement data governance tools and platforms, ensuring technical enablement of governance practices. Work with Data Stewards and business units to enforce data governance policies, monitor compliance, and resolve data-related issues. Support change management and training initiatives to promote data literacy and accountability across the credit union. Oversee the creation and maintenance of a centralized policy and metadata repository. Stay up-to-date on industry trends and advancements in data governance practices.
